Out of most bands out there today, Coldplay seem to have the tightest-knit group, or one of the tightest-knit groups. Who knows what happens behind the scenes, but their relationship has always seemed shockingly democratic and healthy from what we're able to see if you ask me, so I don't think personal issues with each other would suddenly crop up to the point of breaking unless someone made a major lifestyle change or something to that extent. And as someone said before, they're all so dedicated and so passionate, I feel like they're in this for the long haul. I don't think any of them would do retirement well, and they seem to have the view that they're stronger (musically) together than they would be apart at this stage in the game, and I don't think any of them seem to want to give up music to fish or knit for the rest of their lives yet, but that's just my opinion.

Completely agreed

In my mind, Coldplay are one of the least-likely groups to break up in the near future--they still seem to be enjoying themselves immensely.

LP2 will always be their masterpiece if you ask me. I don't see them surpass that level.

Anyway, I'm sure they will make more. Maybe they'll leave EMI and do it on their own, who knows. The band members get along very well and they love making music more than anything. Chris is a waterfall of songs and tunes (ranging from bad to fantastic ;)), especially obvious when you see how many ideas they had to scrap for LP5 (I'll continue calling it like that, I'm too much used to it :p).

Even if they want to stop, they will hardly be able to. When Chris said "Working on an album as if it's our last" it means that's the way to make it as good as possible.

Never mind, I see ApproximatelyInfinite already penned down my exact thoughts.

The boys are getting old now, and Chris has made comments on the longevity of bands and how at 30 things change.

What do you guys think?

probably it'll be true but i'm getting tired of the same old story with each album release, although to me their initial thing is vanishing slowly... .

Chris seems like one of those guys that couldn't stop if he tried. What else would he do?

he seems, but if it were true he'd join other projects and would be releasing double albums/books/paintings or one each year, as other artist have done causing them to break their contract and run their own company, which is not the case.

I do think there will be an end to Coldplay, but definitely not yet. They will split up at some point but there is no point in them doing it yet. Chris said he can't imagine them continuing but I think its because it is the end of the creation process and the start of Mylo Xyloto tour. People would think they can't hack it anymore and were just giving up or something. I'm talking bollocks aren't I???

Don't answer that!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna be in a old peoples home jamming to Coldplay down the corridor :awesome:

LOL.. I just know that my future kids is going to grow up with Coldplay.. :P They better like it!

Back to tropic: I don't think Coldplay will stop now.. They are one of the worlds biggest bands, so why stop now?

to have a break after all their work and achievements? to start other artist projects? to spend some proper time with their families?

I still don't think they will stop yet. Maybe in a few years after the new tour, they will take a long break.

I say their final record will be LP42

it seems fitting

They signed a deal with Universal so they'll definitely release some more music in some form. But judging from the interviews they'll really struggle to start LP6 so I think it will be a long wait before LP6 is released, possibly even 5 years or so after MX.

I think they say that every time, but to be honest it is their life's work, that is what they were born to do. I was reading an interview of Brandon Flowers when the killers decided to take a longer break after touring/recording for better part of 6 yrs straight.

The Killers couldn't stay home or just chill out, and do other things. All 4 band members were already coming up with ideas, producing other people's albums, releasing solo albums - it's just in their nature.

Plus Coldplay is lucky, they have great chemistry for a band, and they just work well together. That's so hard to find when u start a band.

I mean chris' love for jonny is that he realizes how lucky he was to have roomed close by Jonny when they were in college (he overheard jonny playing guitar in his room with the door closed supposedly bc jonny is so shy about it (and you can totally tell that from concerts where Chris has to prod him to go into the crowd, though he is becoming better at coming out of his shell). Plus the fact jonny was such a talented guitarist to boot. They work well together (almost like a Richards/Jagger, or Lennon/McCartney duo in a way). Then Will becoming the drummer even though he had no experience at it, that's amazing. I mean he was a multi-instrumentalist prior so he naturally had the raw musical talent to pick it up and excel. I mean this is destiny, and Chris' knows it, and he acknowledges it every concert by thanking fans for giving them the best job in the world. They don't take it lightly.

Could you imagine if Will's friend actually showed up for the audition, would there be a Coldplay as we know it? I mean all of these 4 guys are so talented and work so well together. I don't think they would give it up to spend more time with family, they already do i'm sure - I mean they take 3 yrs in btwn albums, granted they are touring a good part. But as long as their is the creative spark and messages to be conveyed - they can't help it.

But again, i can't imagine how much pressure they have to endure to produce both a quality and unique album - think about it, here's your assignment, i want you to produce an album of quality songs with unique ideas, quality lyrics, and on top of that write hit music to it, and also have a concept behind it. That's a tall order, and that's why they get paid the beau coup bucks.

So, whatever they have left, I hope it's for at least another decade, i mean U2 is still producing quality music after 30yrs in the biz, i don't see why they can't do the same.

^ Agreed

You know . . . I've always wondered what Coldplay would be like to this day if Will's friend had shown up for the audition :P of it they hadn't showed Guy that lyric snippet that convinced him to join the band. Coldplay does seem to be destined to be together.

^ Agreed

Maybe we would have gotten to listen to LeftRightLeftRightLeft :P

i agree with everyone else, stop at LP 7

i say one classic piano ballad type album

and one of them just doing whatever the heck they want to do!

I don't know, they'll probably make a couple of albums more. But I think it will be a long time before we listen to LP6. Probably they'll be on hiatus 2 or 3 years after Mylo Xyloto tour (it's hard not to call it LP5 :P) and then they'll start recording LP6 which I think it's going to be very different from what they are doing now, hopefully doing a AROBTTH album style. But I think they'll stop at LP7 or LP8, although I would love them to make music forever! :)

^ Agreed. I could definitely see them taking a hiatus for a couple of years before working on a new album--although I can't imagine Chris settling down for any period of time :P

I could see them releasing 10 LPs before calling it quits--especially since they just signed a 'huge' contract with Universal Music (although I wish they could just go on forever).

They still have to make a bunch of Greatest Hits album.

I will use my avatar for fake greatest hits

Why coldplay can't release more than 7 LP, U2 made 12 LP and its not the end.

I will use my avatar for fake greatest hits

That would be a great cover for their greatest hits!!

Green Day has been going for a long time and their best songs are on their 2 latest albums. So Coldplay should keep going.
