I agree! Transatlantism is amazing, really. That tune and Codes And Keys are my favorites by them.

 

I like Make This Go On Forever, is a nice and beautiful song. But I think my favorite is Open Your Eyes, and it will be my favorite forever.

- great drummer on a technical level

- weak guitarist

- excellent live shows EXCEPT:

- frontman who has a tendency (read: not all the time) to look like he'd rather be getting his balls waxed than playing a gig

- no real evolution between records (sorry tom, i love them but im the first to admit this)

- beyond impressive catalog of huge, catchy, awesome pop songs

I agree with the Arctic Monkeys and Red Hot Chili Peppers stuff.

 

But I found No Line On The Horizon as one of the greatest records U2 have done (except, of course, of Get On Your Boots, which is catchy, but too commercial).

Does everyone forget how the Internet works? The only major album in the last decade to not leak was Watch the Thrown and that was because they took extreme security measures and released it digitally before the physical release. We will absolutely have it by the 19th. I say we'll have it by the 15th.

Coldplay has HUGE differences between all their albums.

 

Parachutes- Acoustic, whimsical

Rush of Blood- Bold, more diverse, deeper lyrics, expanded instrumentation.

X&Y- Electronic, synths, song structure

Viva- Instrumental diversification, darkened sound, expanded ambiance, more complex structure

MX- Too early to tell, overall.

 

 

And Arctic Monkeys' lyrics are no deeper than Fix You's. Fix You has poo-poo lyrics on paper, but the song is incredibly moving.

 

Yeah, Coldplay's lyrics aren't the best (they've gone downhill since Rush of Blood) but it's the whole song. The layering. The diversity. The power. And you can tell Chris is the hardest-working, most neurotic man in music today.

 

And they manipulate their winning formula. You think they have to make changes to stay fresh? No. If they kept releasing a Rush of Blood, it would sell like hotcakes every single time. But they do it to be daring and expand their sound, and I really admire that.

 

If Coldplay's sound hasn't changed, why do they keep explaining why their sound has changed so much? :laugh3: I think their drastic shift in sound is the number one point of controversy on this forum.

Talking about other bands do you guys like the flaming lips? I started to hear then like 3 months ago and I can't stop hearing them! they're so awesome they're my 2nd favourite band right now.

right, but when theres no measurable sonic evolution between your first three albums save for a few synthesizers, this point becomes valid.

 

the point about the lyrics i won't even begin to contest, because alex turner is simply far and away a better lyricist than chris martin, and if you want to contest it the songs speak for themselves

 

this being said, i suppose we are on a coldplay forum in all fairness, so i'll drop it :)

 

my point: if you need music while waiting for MX, you will likely not be disappointed if you check out arctic monkeys

When I first got Spotify, I listened to about 90% of his library. A great man, Sufjan is.

I discovered this guy 3 years ago and now I have all his songs. He is a GENIUS and sometimes better than Coldplay (something I thought I would never say)

I think the Parachutes and AROBTTH Coldplay used to be more original than the X&Y, VLVODAAHF and MX Coldplay.

 

Since X&Y, they began to use samples (Talk, then the Viva La Vida plagiarism from Joe Satriani and now ETIAW).

 

But in the other hand, I think they have evolved their sound in a really mature way.

 

Their lyrics used to be deeper, but in music is now at their best. Just listen to Hurts Like Heaven, is a beautiful piece of art. Songs like Don't Panic and Trouble are great and deeper, but the new stuff is really creative... And so amazing!

haha I'm glad you feel the same. Sufjan Stevens is a musical genius. I'm always torn to who I consider my favorite music artist/group, it has always been a toss up between Sufjan and Coldplay. I know wierd two favorites groups. I'm so jealous you've met him. I've been listening to all of Illinois and Age of Adz for a week straight.

I respect your opinion, but I have never enjoyed The Arctic Monekys. As someone who highly enjoys the genre they are in, I can say I simply don't like them. :)

 

However, Bon Iver has been holding me over. I cannot get over how awesome "Perth" is.
