September 12, 201114 yr Who even says "it gets so heavy" anymore. There's that word again, "heavy." Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?
September 13, 201114 yr Author On a random note, you're Emily right? That's my name too. hahaha yes, i am emily :D
September 13, 201114 yr Who even says "it gets so heavy" anymore. so true! the song is uninspirational.
September 13, 201114 yr I love the little 'Every Tear A Waterfall' they sneaked in ;) Having a song about it wasn't good enough, the line is so great, why not put it in another song as well?
September 13, 201114 yr  Having a song about it wasn't good enough, the line is so great, why not put it in another song as well? hahhaha :laugh3: lol, i've been listening to the song for the past few hours in hopes that it would somehow grow on me yet i keep laughing at "Life goes on it gets so heavy"...........i wonder what chris was doing when he wrote that line .....hmmmm:thinking: Any guesses?

Perhaps in the way that a teen thinks? Because this song is about it and not about deep feelings in the way that Chris think?. You are not taking properly the simple structure of lyrics of this song and the concept behind it.
September 13, 201114 yr I don't get why this verse is so ridicolous for you. I think we just have to wait to listen the whole album to understand properly the lyrics of everysingle song, don't forget it's a concept album. However I've never seen fans of a band criticize a single verse of a song. It's something strange for me.
September 13, 201114 yr I don´t think you have to be a teen to feel for the protagonist of this song and the sentence "life gets so heavy" is simple but incredibly true. Chris has always had a simple but effective way to articulate feelings people can relate to.

Exactly, if hes writing from the perspective of a young girl then what the hell do you expect??? an eloquent monologue of wisdom????? The lengths of some peoples simple mindedness is quite shocking. :inquisitive:

September 13, 201114 yr I think this is about a woman, not a girl, because he sings "When she WAS just a girl..." so we assume a fair amount of time has passed since. Yes, but he is writing about WHEN she was a girl, though.
September 13, 201114 yr Yes, but he is writing about WHEN she was a girl, though. When she was a girl, she expected the world, but the later darker sentiments belong to the woman who has now realized life has gotten heavy and crashing.
September 13, 201114 yr I have never, ever used the term 'it gets so heavy' in reference to anything unless being highly ironic. And I've never even thought the phrase in an internal monologue. And you know, I was a young girl in this 21st century life.

And you know, I was a young girl in this 21st century life. I really never thought about it in so much detail :) I just relate to the sentence: life can and does get heavy. And the wheel breaks a butterfly is a very painful image in my opinion, makes this song very dark

And the wheel breaks a butterfly is a very painful image in my opinion, makes this song very dark I heard it and just sort of went 'cite your source'-- Chris Martin has no experience of teenage girl-life.
September 13, 201114 yr ok so i just saw this youtube comment "Life goes on.. It gets so heavy.. The wheel breaks the butterfly, Every tear, a waterfall. :) <3" :shocked2:really people?? those lyrics don't deserve a love heart :P
September 13, 201114 yr The wheel breaks the butterfly, Every tear, a wa- WA WA WA WA WA I'm sorry, did I hear something?

September 13, 201114 yr I second these. And I once more point out that as a teenager most people would not use the term 'life goes on, it gets heavy' unless being ironic. Honestly.
September 13, 201114 yr ^ That might differ per country. In the Netherlands you do say 'life is heavy' when things get rough/tough. It's a very common expression and I think a lot of Dutchies can thereby relate to at least that part of the lyrics.
