Best Coldplay Lyrics

If you fuck up your final exams put:

"When you try your best but you don't succeed

when you get shit marks because you smoke too much weed*"

* only applies if you are one of those potheads. I don't think you are, but you might be. Who knows. Not me. I'm just saying, IF you are one. You might not be. I mean, I don't know. Do you know? I don't know.

To be honest, Chris Martin isn't a brilliant lyricist. Especially when you remove his lyrics from the = music and the context of the song.

You'd be better off quoting Ben Gibbard or someone.

Or a real philosopher. If you want a quote for the year book I'd go with:

Gravity release me and don't ever hold me down

Now my feet wont touch the ground.

Completely agree, that's just about the only good lyric I've ever heard from him.

With that being said, I liked Coldplay's earlier material better because they weren't trying to be awesome lyricists.

Anyway, I agree, go with a philosopher. Will mean more in the future.

I've heard a lot of people say this, and I honestly don't get why. I think Chris is far better than most of the singer/songwriters out there.

Sure, he's probably better than most of the others - but I can't say his lyrics are very good. I listened to Death Cab's new album last night and immediately put on some Coldplay tracks and I really, really noticed how lacking they are sometimes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating here - I adore Chris Martin and I think he is a musical genius, he just doesn't write very good lyrics. Having said that, Us Against the World has beautiful lyrics - it's a gem.

Let me go boys, let me go

Push my boat from the highest cliff to the sea below

Rocks are waiting boys, if rocks await

Swoop down from the sky and catch me like a bird of prey

Now my feet won't touch the ground

Now my head won't stop

You wait a lifetime to be found

Now my feet won't touch the ground

Singing, now my feet won't touch the ground

Now my head won't stop

You wait a lifetime to be found

Now my feet won't touch the ground

Now my feet won't touch the ground.

And

You cut me down a tree

And brought it back to me

And that's what made me see

Where I was going wrong

You put me on a shelf

And kept me for yourself

I can only blame myself

You can only blame me

Violet Hill

Was a long and dark December

From the rooftops I remember

There was snow

White snow

Clearly I remember

From the windows they were watching

While we froze

Down below

When the future's architectured

By a carnival of idiots on show

You'd better lie low

If you love me

Won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December

When the banks became cathedrals

And the fog

Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles

Hollowed out to fit their rifles

And the cross was held aloft

Bury me in armor

When I'm dead and hit the ground

A love back home unfolds

If you love me

Won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier

Who the captain of some sinking ship

Would stow, far below

So if you love me

Why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to Violet Hill

There we sat in snow

All that time she was silent still

So if you love me

Won't you let me know?

If you love me,

Won't you let me know?

....

Spies

I awake to find no peace of mind.

I said how do you live

As a fugitive?

Down here, where I cannot see so clear

I said what do I know?

Show me the right way to go.

And the spies came out of the water,

But you're feeling so bad 'coz you know

And the spies hide out in every corner.

But you can't touch them no,

'Coz they're all spies.

They're all spies.

I awake to see that no one is free.

We're all fugitives - look at the way we live

Down here, I cannot sleep from fear. no

I said which way do I turn?

Oh I forget everything I learn.

And the spies came out of the water.

But you're feeling so bad 'coz you know

And the spies hide out in every corner.

But you can't touch them no,

'Coz they're all spies.

They're all spies.

And if we don't hide here,

They're gonna find us.

And if we don't hide now,

They're gonna catch us when we sleep.

And if we don't hide here,

They're gonna find us.

And the spies came out of the water.

But you're feeling so good.coz you know

that though spies hide out in every corner.

they can't touch you, no.

'Coz they're just spies.

They're just spies..

....

Cemeteries Of London

At night they would go walking ‘till the breaking of the day,

The morning is for sleeping…

Through the dark streets they go searching to see God in their own way,

Save the nighttime for your weeping…

Your weeping…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…

And the night over London, hey…

So we rode down to the river where the toiling ghosts spring,

For their curses to be broken…

We’d go underneath the arches where the witches are in the saying,

There are ghost towns in the ocean…

The ocean…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…

And the night over London, ey…

God is in the houses and God is in my head… and all the cemeteries in London…

I see God come in my garden, but I don’t know what he said,

For my heart it wasn’t open….

Not open…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…

And the night over London, ey…

Singing la lalalalala la lé…

There’s no light over London today

....

Square One

You're in control, is there anywhere you wanna go?

You're in control, is there anything you wanna know?

The future's for discovering

The space in which we're travelling

From the top of the first page

To the end of the last day

From the start in your own way

You just want somebody listening to what you say

It doesn't matter who you are

It doesn't matter who you are

Under the surface trying to break through

Deciphering the codes in you

I need a compass, draw me a map

I'm on the top, I can't get back

Whoa whoa

The first line on the first page

To the end of the last page

From the start in your own way

You just want somebody listening to what you say

It doesn't matter who you are

It doesn't matter who you are

You just want

Somebody listening to what you say

Oh, you just want somebody listening to what you say

It doesn't matter who you are

It doesn't matter who you are

Is there anybody out there who

Is lost and hurt and lonely too

Are they bleeding all your colours into one?

and if you come undone

As if you've been run through

Some catapult it fired you

You wonder if your chance will ever come

Or if you're stuck in square one

There are plenty of fine lyrics in AROBTTH especially AROBTTH itself and Amsterdam. The Gravity release me lyric from LIT II is not that great I think.

Bbetter off not picking lyrics from an active band like Coldplay. Let's say their music age really badly - you're going to regret picking Coldplay lyrics as your senior quote.

LOL that's about the dumbest thing I've read. If there music had aged really badly then people would stop buying and playing such songs like Yellow, Clocks etc on the radio.

By the way, nobody will be reading their yearbook in a few years time, to know if the music has aged badly. Trust me.

Amsterdam is almost flawless lyrically, I doubt Chris will ever write lyrics as good as those again. In fact, I don't think he'll ever write a song as good as Amsterdam again.

This. :)

How about...

Was a long and dark December,

From the classrooms I remember,

There were grades, bad grades.

Clearly I remember,

All the teachers they were watching,

While we failed all those tests.

<(^__^<)

Nah but for a yearbook quote...you could do well with:

-UATW...[if we could float away, or "through chaos as it swirls"]

-Speed of Sound [the line about inventors]

-Clocks [Am I a part of the cure..]

-Politik...all of it, basically.

-We Never Change (to be a bit pessimistic about it :p)

-AROBTTH - just don't let anyone think it's a bomb threat.

'Nobody said it was easy, nobody said it would be so hard'

'When you try your best but you don't succeed, when you get what you want but not what you need, when you feel so tired that you can't sleep, stuck in reverse'

'But give me love over, love over, love over this'

'No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end;

I don't wanna cycle, recycle revenge;

I don't wanna follow death and all of his friends.

'If you love me, won't you let me know'

'Look at the stars, look how they shine for you, and everything you do'
