  • I've been a Muse fan for a couple of years now. I liked a couple of their hits but then a friend invited me to come with him to a Muse concert with him in 2013. The live experience was amazing and I h

Thanks everyone for the nice welcoming :)

I think The Resistance is a great album, despite the production not being very good and a few songs being a bit too long... Overall I'm not sure where I'd place it with the rest of their albums though.

And nice Hysteria, it's cool to meet someone else on here who went to one of the same shows I did :) The rain annoyed me because I was only wearing my Muse shirt from the previous gig so I was soaked  but it was so awesome when it started to rain during Uprising :D

I think Matt may have upset or offended some of the fans who couldn't make it to the Saturday night show with his comments towards the end of the concert though... I'm not sure if you all know what he said but he said that those who went to that show were "real fans" of the band and on the Muse site I go on a lot of people who had no choice but to go on the Friday night were upset by this as they felt like Matt was basically saying their fandom meant nothing to him. But I don't think he meant that, I just think he was happy after playing so many stadium gigs to all those fans that summer and he kinda meant it to all the fans who showed up.

Hi there! :) I'm Michael.

Are you making it to any of the festivals this year?

Just curious as to which songs on The Resistance you think are too long. Some of Muse's best songs are long, like Citizen Erased and Space Dementia.

And yeah, I recall reading the massive overreaction to Matt's Wembley comment on .mu. But that place is beef central.

I think Uprising is too long, because it has too simple a structure to last 5 minutes. If they wanted it to be that long they should have added the outro riff they play live onto the end of it I think, but then again I think that riff is cool as a live-only thing, I love it when bands play extra stuff on the end of songs live. Unnatural Selection, nothing much happens in the middle and I think the slow section goes on a bit too long, but that part works live so take it or leave it I reckon. Oh and I Belong to You should have just been two minutes, the French part is unneccesary. The version on the Twilight soundtrack is better IMO, but I do agree that a lot of the longer Muse songs are better, it's just that bands need to have something interesting going on to justify a longer track :)

And sadly I didn't have the money to pay for Reading or Leeds. I knew they were rumoured to play but I'd been having problems with money, so when they were confirmed and said they'd play all of the OOS album I was gutted :( ah well, I'll watch it on TV like I did with Glastonbury :p Are you going to any of the festivals?

Mmmmm, "Space Dementia." I can play the piano part on that. :awesome:

Anyway, to answer TwistedPolitik's question, my fave album would definitely be "Absolution." "Origin of Symmetry" would be a close second, methinks. As for song, "Butterflies & Hurricanes" is definitely my #1 pick.

Agreed about Uprising. I am beyond bored of the studio version, but that live outro riff is killer. I like the slower portion of Unnatural Selection, though, and I prefer the standard version of IBTY to the Twilight mix.

LA Rising, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands :)

Yes, I'm psychotic. Though I know way more psychotic Musers than me.

Matt was in Malibu yesterday?

That's seriously 20 minutes down the coast from me. Could have stalked. But no. I had to watch that Coldplay webcast instead.

I major spaz fitted at when I found out Matt said that. I thought it to be really horrible and dismissive. I tried to get tickets to the Saturday. I skipped an exam damnit. It was not my fault that the server in my uni residences was so slow it was nearly impossible to even get on to the site before it sold out. My Mum ended up taking over and getting me the tickets to the Friday. So I was all like 'bitchy Mattchu, I could've failed my first year trying to get tickets, I think that classifies me as a fan. Say whut.'

I feel the same about I Belong to You. I've actually taken the album version off my iPod and slipped the Twilight soundtrack version in instead. :shame: I also think that the Uprising outro live is better than what you get on the CD but I think that's a thing to make the live shows a little better and a little more exciting I guess (not that they need to be any more exciting :P)

And I'll be joining you with the watching of Reading/Leeds on the TV. My placement runs over the weekend so it's impossible for me to go. Oh, and now I'm moving house that weekend instead so literally my parents are enforcing that I don't go despite my not living with them.

I think the Twilight mix of IBTY has too many unnecessary guitars. It doesn't sound right to me that way.

As far as "Unnatural Selection" goes, I never did understand why the slow section even exists, let alone how it ended up that way. I sometimes end up skipping that part of the song when I listen to it.

Coldplay and Muse are playing opposite each other at Lollapalooza. Same time, same day, different stage. I just wanted to let you guys know that:

A) I had a sobbing fit until a few minutes ago.

B) I want to repeatedly punch the schedule organizers not just in their faces, but EVERYWHERE.

C) I'm choosing Muse. :D

Excellent choice.

You're kidding! :( I'd be pretty furious.

But yeah, I'd say Muse is the better option for now, since Coldplay will (hopefully) start a tour sometime soon.

I'm still getting the second-hand and third-hand angry. I will quite happily assist you with your brutality mission because it is a heinous crime

I'm just hoping Benicassim doesn't pull something like this and pit Bombay Bicycle Club against Brandon Flowers or something to that effect. Then shit will really get serious.

I was thinking about this, you're seeing Muse three times this year... So you could always go to Coldplay and not feel that bad. Admittedly though better bet that you'll be able to see Coldplay this year on tour. (They better tour, I want multiple days in Wembley and the O2 and my bank balance can suffer. MWHAHAHA)

Personally, I'd go with BBC. I love The Killers, but Brandon Flowers' solo set is seriously boring live. The best songs are Killers covers, though it's not the same without the rest of the band.

Coldplay will tour non-stop next year, I'm confident. They'll play AT LEAST two arena shows near me. Probably three. Muse will be back in the studios.

I would be very torn about it. I've seen Bombay Bicycle Club before, and I don't think anything will be able to beat a 200 capacity venue, in the snow, followed by a snowball fight with them  Whereas I've never seen Brandon Flowers before and I've always wanted to see him (both solo and with The Killers)

Yeah, you're probably very right about that. I'm hoping for a Viva repeat in which there should be four dates at least I can go to.

I realized I never did a voice post for this thread. :stunned:

You will get one from me by tonight, I guarantee it. If not, I lose Wolstenpoints.

Speaking of voice posts, if you haven't heard already, there's an mp3 recording of me singing Michael's parody of "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," cleverly titled "Every Beer Can Is a Brewery." You should go to the ETIAW section of the forum and download it. Everyone has given me compliments so far, so it apparently doesn't suck. HOORAY.

Yayyy. We get to hear Michael (finally I can put a voice to the tweets :awesome:)

And that's so cool, I'm going to get right on listening to that Violet. It sounds
