July 20, 201213 yr http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/7320048/Mass-shooting-at-Batman-premiere A man is in custody after allegedly shooting dead 14 people and wounding up to 50 others at a screening of new Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises in the US city of Denver, Colorado. Reports suggest a figure in a gas mask opened fire at the showing in a mall in the suburb of Aurora and set off a smoke or tear gas bomb. Initial police estimates were of about 50 injured. Ten people died at the scene and four in hospital. Children are believed to be among the victims of the shooting. A witness told local media he saw people covered in blood after the shooting. "A cop came walking through the door holding a little girl in his arms, and she wasn't moving." Another witness said he heard explosions and what sounded like a fully automatic weapon. "It was more than 50 or 60 shots. I was just worried about getting out of there." A spokeswoman for Denver’s Swedish Medical Centre said three people had been admitted to that hospital with gunshot wounds and were in critical condition. Another hospital, Denver Health, had received six wounded, one of whom was in critical condition, spokeswoman Kalena Wilkinson said. Aurora police say the suspect was found at the back of the theatre in a parking lot with a gas-mask, a rifle and a handgun. Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said there was no evidence of a second gunman. Dozens of police were at the scene, and authorities had evacuated the area while they checked for explosive devices. Police say the suspect told them he had explosives at his apartment building. That building has been evacuated. 9 news.com reported other movie-goers heard shots in the theatre where The Dark Knight Rises was screening and initially assumed it was part of the movie. One witness said: ''Nobody really thought anything of it and then 30 seconds later they evacuated us.'' Witnesses have been bussed to a nearby highschool to be interviewed by police. CNN quoted one witness saying: "A guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing - picking random people." KOA said authorities were evacuating the area while they checked if there was an exploding device there. CNN quoted one witness as saying he saw a "guy slowly making his way up the stairs and firing, picking random people". It said local hospitals were alerted to a "mass casualty incident".
July 20, 201213 yr Just read that on a German news site. That's really tragic :sad2: RIP to everyone who lost their lives that night
July 20, 201213 yr I heard about this. I hope the grieving families send their loved ones out in peace. RIP, you are all heroes in my eyes.
July 20, 201213 yr That's really terrible. And, as the article says, a lot of them were probally really young. I sometimes have trouble believing we live in world where people can be this cruel. My heart goes out to the families of the victims.
July 20, 201213 yr The more info that's released, the sadder this gets. Even more insane is the fact he booby-trapped his apartment.
July 20, 201213 yr Such a horrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers to those involved, their families, and friends.
July 20, 201213 yr What a terrible, senseless crime. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families.
July 20, 201213 yr What a terrible, senseless crime. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. THIS. And this terrible deed occurs almost one year after the shooting at Utoya near Oslo on 22.7.12. Terrible with all this violence around the world.
July 20, 201213 yr One of the wounded was a 3-month old. I'm sorry, but WHY ON EARTH would you bring a baby to a movie?
July 20, 201213 yr What a terrible incident, my thoughts to the victims. There was a similar happening here on Brazil back in 1999, this world has been crazy these days.
July 20, 201213 yr One of the wounded was a 3-month old. I'm sorry, but WHY ON EARTH would you bring a baby to a movie? I originally thought that, and the fact a 6 year old was there too when it's a 12 and at midnight.
July 20, 201213 yr This is so horrible, my heart goes out to the victims and their families. A shooting like this is horrifying, because people go to movies to lose themselves. Movie theaters are thought of as safe, so to have a shooting in one is crazy to think of. I'm personally really upset by this because I went to a midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, and I just keep thinking "What if that happened to me?"
July 20, 201213 yr I woke up, walked into the living room only to see this on CNN. It's a shame how one crazy person makes the wrong decision and ruins the fun for the people inside the theater... I mean, come on... How crazy must he have been? :\ My thoughts are to those who have been killed and injured in such an ignorant crime.
July 21, 201213 yr That's absolutely horrible for such a thing to happen.Rest in peace to those who were killed.
July 21, 201213 yr He thought that he was the Joker. It's a fucking movie, not reality... RIP to the dead, I'll have a thought for them when I will go see the movie tomorrow. :( I felt so bad today. :(
July 21, 201213 yr I just heard this on TV2 News: The girl living in the apartment below the booby-trapped apartment of yesterday's shooter was interviewed by Danish TV2's correspondent Jesper Steinmetz. She told him this: The shooter was very shy and never said "hello" when meeting her. Yesterday, he had left his apartment with very loud music playing. It was much too loud for the girl. She went up and knocked on the door of the shooter's apartment, but got no answer. She considered opening the door sensing that it was not locked, but luckily she didn't. OR she would probably have been killed and the building might have collapsed. At the same time of the loud music from the apartment, he was in the movie theatre shooting at people. And like other coldplayers, I was also wondering what children around the age of 6 were doing in there around midnight.
