I thought they were a 1 of a kind thing for Coldplay?

Reverend and the Makers and True Tiger DJs opened Sheffield's Tramlines festival in style last night (20.07.12) with performances on the Nokia Lumina stage.

Reverend and the Makers opened Tramlines festival in Sheffield last night (20.07.12).

The 'Heavyweight Champion of the World' band took part in the Nokia Lumia Live showcase at the three-day free event, with a homecoming show in front of 8,000 people, in the Northern English city.

Speaking ahead of their set, Frontman John McLure exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''I'm buzzing I'm so excited, almost every person I've ever known ever in the world is here tonight. We've been away three years and haven't made a record, and I often thought, there will never be a moment like this ever again for us. But we've come back, album went top twenty, tour's selling and this festival is rammed, and we're happy to be back.''

The crowd had been handed special Xylobands - wristbands which light up in synch with the music, first used by Coldplay - at the event, which activated as the band played 'Silence is Talking'at the end of the set and throughout closing act True Tiger DJs' performance, the first time this technology has ever been used at a festival.

True Tiger DJs said: ''We're really excited about the Nokia light show, it's all pretty cool, and it's gonna be cool to see what it looks like, especially when you're looking out into the crowd - whenever you get that kind of moment with lighters or phones it's really cool.

''We're in an era of DJs doing big shows now with big stage and light production so its cool to be involved in something like this which is really out there.''

Tramlines festival continues today (21.07.12) and Sunday (22.07.12) with performances from We Are Scientists, Roots Manuva, and Toddla T among many others. Also at the festival Nokia will continue to stage their Lumia Live gigs including shows by Blood Sport, Danny Beck, and MJ Cole.

Good for Jason, live music has been enhanced by the Xylobands as the audience feel part of the show a lot more than they did before. At least the 'Xylo' had been maintained which in my eyes will always be associated with Coldplay.

yeah that's what i thought as well they kept the name Xylobands instead of just wristbands !!

Jason is a really nice, humble guy, so I guess Coldplay didn't have sole rights to the use of them, but I would have thought they would have kept them soley through the tour, but yeah...Good for Jason, I like seeing him do good, OH and Thanks to Dianne for introducing Jason to me:)

OH and Hulsey...Love your avatar.... Karl is the greatest:)

Haha! I only have him as my avatar as I'm compared to him quite regularly.

Although I'm a big fan of his idea of the Wife of Brian

Well, this kinda makes sense, seeing how the Xylobands were meant for events like this. I'm glad to see that Coldplay pioneered something that'll enhance concert experiences! :nice:

Karl is the best idiot that can roam around the world abroad. :P

Coldplay invested in Jason's business, so I'm sure this was the intention all along. They want other people to be using them.

I'm also glad they kept the Xyloband name, as it gives some ownership to Coldplay over it. Kind of feels weird that it's not just exclusive to Coldplay though...

Tramlines? damn I was in sheffield at the time, (a native sheffielder) why diddnt I go!

^spits Coke at the computer screen!!

if only we could find a way to make them light up again.........that would be awesome, the cat would probably go nuts as they tend to love flashlights and lasers...

^I thought there was a way to do that with a paperclip or something....

I was expecting you to post that they make nice cat collars.... :\

I still say if not for the little wires in them, Jason could have a great sideline marketing them to pet owners!

My friend's cat destroyed one of his to figure out how it was glowing. Even animals are intrigued by them.

Justin Bieber is also getting Xylobands? WTF?

Just posted by Jason Regler, the creator of the Xylobands, on Twitter:

Justin Bieber live Exclusive - YouTube

It looks like his daughter was fooling around with a bunch of xylobands, at least I hope that's what it was.

People keep sending him tweets, poor Jason!

He wrote this in one of his tweets:

boys been working hard 2 years now cant go on forever they want make record

I like the sound of that!

Music is one of the hardest subjects to talk about, because everything involves taste and opinion. Even nice people can become hateful people if talking about something they don't like (ex. Justin Bieber). But seriously, people have to shut up about Bieber. Jason deserves to do what he wants with his invention, and if letting Bieber use those means getting more money to provide for his family, then so be it.

To coldplayers, the invention is still called XYLOBANDS, so there will always be a Coldplay reference there.

I couldn't agree more. But I still don't like Justin Bieber :p
