Ooh, yeah, that's no fair. Send a PM, quick! :escaping:

Finished writing my review, but I want to go through it one more time tomorrow and fix the structure. Just letting you know :)

So here’s my review. Sorry that it took so long, and I hope it’s worth the wait :) I like to write reviews, so I like to make it as good as possible and that usually takes some time. Also, if there’s anything that’s wrong please correct me.

The tape is 19 tracks long and is constructed to flow well with some track working as interludes. Some of the information was still attached to a few of the songs.

Track 1: The mixtape starts off with a guitar driven track. The soundscape is drenched in synths and electronic sounds. In that sense it reminds me a little of an 80’s pop song, especially in the chorus. I think it’s more recent, though. I really like the back-lying synth line in the chorus, but not so much the guitar bits in the bridge and solo, and not the strings either. The soundscape is designed so that the verses are chaotic, then everything gets pulled together for the chorus. This is an ok song in parts, but not something I picture myself listening to.

Track 2: Starts off with an electric guitar and is joined by percussion and some background noises I can’t make out. Sounds like a police radio? The singer has an American accent (?), and a pretty strong voice. The song doesn’t really build up dynamically, and the guitar riff repeats throughout. Don’t care much for this one either, but in the sense of the mixtape progression it works pretty well.

Track 3: A calmer track to begin with, starting out with an electric guitar on a wavy soundscape, with a man’s voice humming over it. Eventually it builds up in intensity before falling back to the mellow guitar picking. I really like the percussion, especially in the verses and the repeating strumming pattern. I also like how it well changes between loud and intense, and mellow and calm. This is a real gem. The information was left on this one, Jeff Buckley – Mojo Pin off Grace.

Track 4: Violins strumming in allegro give way for a piano playing chords in a ¾ rhythm. The singer has a beautiful, fragile voice, and sings in French. The strings return and are joined by acoustic guitar, bass and harp (?) while building in intensity. About two and a half minutes in there’s an interlude part where the violins build up for the final chorus. Usually this would sound really cheesy, but I like pretty much everything about this. One of my favorites.

Track 5: A quicker paced song, which builds up throughout its intro before leaving an electric guitar on its own. Then a second a guitar, bass and drums come back in. “I’m ready to owe you anything is repeated a lot”. A short rock song at just under 3 minutes, and flows nicely into the next track.

Track 6: A nearly instrumental track, with only a few words sung in between (I think I heard je t’aime?). The dynamics in this one are like in track 2 very flat. I like this one better, though. It has a very laid back vibe, and uses a lot of electronic instruments.

Track 7: An acoustic guitar track. In the beginning it sounds as if it takes small parts from various famous works and weaves them together (quotes), do you know? Throughout the track the playing changes from picking in a more classic style to strumming in Spanish fashion to several guitars strumming a chord progression. A technically impressive track that uses a lot of pop tricks.

Track 8: Pump organ playing a heavy chord progression with electronic clicks in rhythm back a distorted woman’s voice, which reminds me of Eivør Palsdottir. Percussion, synthesizers and some brass produce more layers as the song progresses. Interesting soundscape, I like this. Something makes me wonder if this is Björk, though I’m certain it’s not.

Track 9: A lot of digital synthesizers in some odd harmonies. That and the bass suggest that this is from the 80’s. The singer sounds a bit like Matt Bellamy in the way he uses his voice, especially in the verses. Not a fan of this one :\

Track 10: This is a really strange track. It sounds like a soundtrack piece from a Disney Christmas movie with thick layers of strings laying a platform for a piano playing arpeggios in high octaves. Then there’s a choir, percussion and xylophone. The information on this one says Janelle Monae and Of Montreal, but I’m not sure I believe that. A short track at a minute and a half and it flows perfectly into track 11.

Track 11: A higher paced song starting with harmonizing over percussion and a guitar strumming two chords. I definitely know this voice; it’s one of the soul greats I think, and it sounds a little bit like Marvin Gaye meets Robert Del Naja. The chorus uses punctuation with organ and guitar doubling each other as opposed to the verses which are more legato. Great guitar work, I love the little riff going into the chorus. Nice song!

Track 12: The song starts with the sound of waves washing up on beat, and then a drum kit takes over. The song is about the Mediterranean. Guitars and synths lie thick on this one, especially in the chorus. The guitar sounds are interesting, and the chorus isn’t that bad, but overall it sounds like the demo on a cheap keyboard. Very 80’s.

Track 13: Begins with a minute or so of electronic beats and the singer trying to describe to the soundman how Andy Warhol is spelled. Then the song starts. A Spanish inspired guitar riff starts off the song which is driven by guitar strumming and harmonies. I don’t like the lyrics much, and don’t care much for the song either. I’m curious to see who it is, though.

Track 14: A laid back guitar riff starts off and is joined by percussion and a bass guitar. It works as the backdrop for the song. At the end of the verses the instruments cut out and Ian Brown sings “I’d love to do it and you know you’ve always had it coming”. Ok song, and nice percussion. The Stone Roses – Shoot You Down according to the info.

Track 15: A synthesizer bass with some basic percussion starts out and the other instruments come one by one, first and electric piano than a piano, both repeating their riffs. The vocals are next, a male’s voice, and are distorted. An electric guitar joins in, than something that sounds like a banjo is added at the first chorus. Later there’s more synth (really cool) and an accordion, each instrument repeating their phrase/riff. This helps the dynamics, and I really like it. Another favorite, and it reminds me a little of Massive Attack.

Track 16: A minimalist 80’s synth-pop with the focus centered on the details. Each sound is treated preciously. In the chorus there’s a xylophone, but besides that it’s all analogue synths. Some pretty cool sounds and parts. The voice as well as the instrumentation reminds me a little of Peter Gabriel. Japan – Tin Drum, though I could maybe have guessed that

Track 17: Electric piano and acoustic guitar in the beginning give the impression of a singer/songwriter track, but then an electric drumbeat starts. The main focus is the voice which is drenched in effects to be more floating. An early 2000’s pop song. It’s a good song for what it is, but I don’t really listen to this kind of music. (Goapele – Even Closer)

Track 18: Not so fond of this one. A melody is repeated throughout (except in the bridge) by backing singers, but it all kind of drowns in the guitar. The singer has a pretty high register, and uses a lot of falsetto.

Track 19: Yodeling choir :|

So to summarize, I really liked your tape. Even though I didn’t like all of the songs, the way it was put together made it very good, and that’s in a way more important to me. I like the diversity amongst genres and time periods, and how well they’ve been weaved together. I look forward to your commentary :) a big thanks!

My favorite tracks were 3,4,8,11,15 and of course 19 ;)

Hi Will! I'm Dee and I made your mixtape :wacky: I like writing long reviews too so I hope this post doesn't become too lengthy :disappointed:

---

Sorry that it took so long, and I hope it’s worth the wait :)

It was! I appreciate that you took the time to write all your thoughts and that really makes you an ace partner.

Some of the information was still attached to a few of the songs.

ah crap

Track 1: The mixtape starts off with a guitar driven track. The soundscape is drenched in synths and electronic sounds. In that sense it reminds me a little of an 80’s pop song, especially in the chorus. I think it’s more recent, though. I really like the back-lying synth line in the chorus, but not so much the guitar bits in the bridge and solo, and not the strings either. The soundscape is designed so that the verses are chaotic, then everything gets pulled together for the chorus. This is an ok song in parts, but not something I picture myself listening to.

This is Lipgloss by Pulp, probably the best band that the Britpop scene had to offer. It's about a woman who, well, used to have sex appeal but now she doesn't. (Now nothing you do can turn him on / There's something wrong / You had it once, but now it's gone). I like Pulp because their lyrics are so weird. Normally a lot more racy than this. Like you just feel so awkward listening to them haha. But they're so intelligent and witty and a hell of a lot better than most songwriters these days.

Not too recent, it's from the early '90s, but I agree, this track does have a very modern sound

They have material that I'd think you'd prefer, with the nice synths but without the loud, all-over-the-place poppy sound. Different Class, for one, is everyone's favorite and always finds its way on a list of the best albums of the '90s. So you should give them a chance if you think they're a little interesting, but me having a penchant for loud obnoxious 80s-esque music I put this track in instead :P

I mainly like this track for its percussions and that instrument that starts around 0:25, I don't know the name of it but it's lovely

do

do-do-do do do

do-do do

Nah these guys are English, this is Bauhaus, a band that helped begin the goth rock movement, along with Joy Division etc.

I like bands like these because their songs are soo angsty but yet so quiet. And the atmosphere ends up being so chill even though they're talking about the most pessimistic things hahah

Jeff Buckley! I'm surprised you didn't know about him. I only listened to this album, Grace, for the first time a few months ago, one of the few albums I've ever listened to that have actually pulled at my heart and moved me emotionally. I know that sounds corny but whatever :disappointed:

It's a real shame this is the only album he finished.

Aw, you like this? :wacky:

I'll be honest: this was actually more of a filler song! I'm not crazy about it, but I thought it made the right bridge between the third track and the fifth one. This is Cœur De Pirate, a musician from Quebec I believe, and this is from 2011, which I guess is a breath of fresh air from all the '80s-'90s stuff I made you listen to :p

She makes a lot of pretty, carefree pop songs like this, worth a listen if you liked that.

Bombay Bicycle Club, this is their debut single I think. I worried that you might know this one. This is the only song I know by them.

It sounds very indie rock, but not obnoxiously so. I thought you might like it.

Track 6: A nearly instrumental track, with only a few words sung in between (I think I heard je t’aime?). The dynamics in this one are like in track 2 very flat. I like this one better, though. It has a very laid back vibe, and uses a lot of electronic instruments.

I agree, not that interesting, but still has enough of something to make it fairly catchy. I really like the little whispers he makes throughout the song.

This is Rocket Juice & The Moon, one of Damon Albarn's many many side projects. This came out maybe a few months ago. He likes working with African music a lot and this is one of the more accessible projects.

Rodrigo y Gabriela, a duo of talented guitar players from Mexico. Everyone who appreciates intricate and beautiful guitar work should listen to their self-titled album, regardless of their music taste!

This is a cover of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. I think I prefer it to the original. They just do such a good job at making a style of music that people normally don't give that much thought to, become so interesting. I'm glad you liked it!

Interesting that you guessed all those Nordic musicians because they are actually Icelandic, this is múm, and I was kinda worried that you might know them. They're sort of quiet and experimental, I don't know too much of their music.

This was also a filler track, weird that my least loved tracks are turning out to be your favorites

Track 9: A lot of digital synthesizers in some odd harmonies. That and the bass suggest that this is from the 80’s. The singer sounds a bit like Matt Bellamy in the way he uses his voice, especially in the verses. Not a fan of this one :\

Yeah, I was very doubtful that you'd like this! Hahaha. But what the hell, I put it in anyway. Personally, I'd prefer getting quite a lot of tracks on my mixtape and liking a handful of them, than getting a very small amount and liking most of them.

This is Arcadia, one of Duran Duran's side projects in the mid '80s. It is indeed very in-your-face. I remember reading about the frontman himself saying that it's the most pretentious album ever made. And this is coming from Duran Duran. Oh god hahaha.

I hope it didn't ruin the flow of the tape too much for you and you enjoyed having a laugh at the kind of music I listen to :p

This is indeed Janelle Monáe, I have no idea why it says Of Montreal, because they have nothing to do with this track haha, they do have a track with her in this album though. This is from the 2010 album The ArchAndroid, and it's sooo good, if you have an interest in poppy R&B/soul music you will love this.

I also have such a girl crush on her haha :dazzled:

Track 11: A higher paced song starting with harmonizing over percussion and a guitar strumming two chords. I definitely know this voice; it’s one of the soul greats I think, and it sounds a little bit like Marvin Gaye meets Robert Del Naja. The chorus uses punctuation with organ and guitar doubling each other as opposed to the verses which are more legato. Great guitar work, I love the little riff going into the chorus. Nice song!

I knew you'd like this. I wish I knew more songs like this, I'd put 'em all in your mixtape, but I don't, sorry.

This is an American '60s band called Classics IV, and a friend sent it to me thinking I'd really like it, and I did, and now I pass it on to you.

Very 80’s.

Duran Duran again. Sorry. Love 'em. This is not as in-your-face as before though. This song was released last year (yes they're still making albums) and it's nice that after all the unlistenable crap they've released in the past 20 years, they managed to make an album that's pretty good, remaining close to their roots but not sounding outdated.

This was sorta filler though. I guess I could've picked something else to try to impress you.

Aww, ok. This is my favorite David Bowie song. A song about Andy Warhol + Spanish guitar sound + Bowie = an awesome song, in my book. At the very least it works with the seventh track a little and makes it less standalone. You should absolutely check out Bowie's work! He has a loooot of albums, but I think if you listen to his greatest hits and check out the albums from where your favorites come from, you're bound to find something nice.

Yeees I love the Stone Roses' debut, some people think it's incredibly beautiful and some people think it's greatly overrated but I like it a lot. This song's vocals reminds me a lot of the Beatles for some reason, so I thought you might like it. Granted, Ian Brown isn't exactly revered for his singing.

This is Blur, and I'm so happy this one went well with you. I love Blur. This is off their latest (hopefully not last) album called Think Tank, which was released nearly 10 years ago. It just sounds so carefree, but yet so somber.

If you liked this, I can recommend you some more songs, I really think you'd love them.

The song itself is not called Tin Drum, it's called Ghosts. The album is called Tin Drum.

That's just about how to describe Japan, minimalist 80's synthpop. This is a nice little track. I wanted the mixtape to end on a calmer note.

Again, Closer is the song, Even Closer is the album, I don't know why the album information stayed

I thought it would be a winner, shame it's not your kind of music. When I was a kid and we moved to America, there was this whole movement in movie making for making corny urban dance movies based about being in 'the streets' and 'trying to make a future through yourself' through hip-hop dancing, and oh god they were so cheesy and they all had the same plot, but there was this one particular one with Jessica Alba that was really good and it was my favorite movie when I was a kid. This song was on the soundtrack of that film. It just sorta seemed to stick with me through all this time and it's still a great song to me.

Track 18: Not so fond of this one. A melody is repeated throughout (except in the bridge) by backing singers, but it all kind of drowns in the guitar. The singer has a pretty high register, and uses a lot of falsetto.

Yo La Tengo's You Can Have It All. They're a pretty good band, some really good stuff amongst mainly a lot of boring stuff, imo. I really like this song. So calming. Sorry you didn't like it.

Track 19: Yodeling choir :|

This is the last track of the newest Gorillaz album. It's not really a song. Just wanted to leave the tape off a slightly funny note :p

I'm glad you found some stuff you liked, and even though you didn't seem to like all of it, I tried to add quite a lot of variety because I wasn't quite sure what of my music you would like, and also I wanted to reflect my very low attention span when listening to music :p

 You're welcome and thanks!

So basically loudefix and Ariel (technicolor_birds1935) still have to review their mixtape. jeremyy posted a review but didn’t get any feedback yet.

Mixtapes of Twisted Mind and Crest still want reviewing.

Let me know if a link doesn't work or whatever :)

Hi Will! I'm Dee and I made your mixtape :wacky: I like writing long reviews too so I hope this post doesn't become too lengthy :disappointed:

Hi, Dee :) no problem

---

It was! I appreciate that you took the time to write all your thoughts and that really makes you an ace partner.

:awesome:

I was acutally thinking that this reminded me a bit of a more britpop version of Richard Hawley (one og Pulp's guitarists). And I agree, from the Pulp songs I've listened to I've liked the lyrics. I listened to Different Class once and I remeber liking it, so I'm gonna give it another shot :)

Oh, one of my favorite radio hosts loves Bauhaus and plays them constantly. I guess I should listen more to them as well.

No, I know I know who he is  I'd probably have recognized it anyway, I really like his style. No, it's not corny.

Hehe, I'll look into it :P

Bombay Bicycle Club, this is their debut single I think. I worried that you might know this one. This is the only song I know by them. It sounds very indie rock, but not obnoxiously so. I thought you might like it.

Huh, missed that one too.

And that one...

I wondered if it wasn't an Icelandic artist, there's something about that sound. I know Mum, but not that well, so I'll have to listen more to them as well.

Yeah, I was very doubtful that you'd like this! Hahaha. But what the hell, I put it in anyway. Personally, I'd prefer getting quite a lot of tracks on my mixtape and liking a handful of them, than getting a very small amount and liking most of them.

True!

Nah, it's okay, haha. I think I'll steering clear of them, though.

Aww, ok. This is my favorite David Bowie song. A song about Andy Warhol + Spanish guitar sound + Bowie = an awesome song, in my book. At the very least it works with the sixth track a little and makes it less standalone. You should absolutely check out Bowie's work! He has a loooot of albums, but I think if you listen to his greatest hits and check out the albums from where your favorites come from, you're bound to find something nice.

I thought it sounded a bit like him, but thought it might be someone who came later. I'm a bit on and off with Bowie.

I bumped into Ian Brown on the street in Oslo during the Øya festival. Just gonna put that out there...

Sure, I can try listening to some more Blur. I bought one album and ended up not listening to it much :nice:

Yo La Tengo's You Can Have It All. They're a pretty good band, some really good stuff amongst mainly a lot of boring stuff, imo. I really like this song. So calming. Sorry you didn't like it.

Yo La Tengo! :awesome: Didn't recognize them either..

This is the last track of the newest Gorillaz album. It's not really a song. Just wanted to leave the tape off a slightly funny note :p

Fuck it, I knew that! :disappointed:

I'm glad you found some stuff you liked, and even though you didn't seem to like all of it, I tried to add quite a lot of variety because I wasn't quite sure what of my music you would like, and also I wanted to reflect my very low attention span when listening to music :p

 You're welcome and thanks!

 Thanks Dee, you have great taste. Thanks again!

Ok, so, after giving it some listens, here's my review. Some song titles/informations were still present.

1. Starts with a very simple but nice guitar riff then a voice (can't tell if male or female) comes in. It keeps adding different instruments until it reaches an "explosive" climax. I think it lasts a bit longer than it should have but it's not a problem for me. Indeed a good mixtape opener.

yes it's such a good opener for mixtape! this song gives me power everytime :D

2. According to Itunes, this is In A Quiet Corner by Appartjik. I've already listened to some of their songs before but I didn't really like them. This, however, is really good and indeed makes me feel like "in a quiet corner"

ugh, I tried to delete the informations but this song has a problem so I couldn't delete the infos :/ :/ this is my fav song from appartjik

3. Woah, I recognized this from the very first chord! This is The Killers covering one of my favourite Dire Straits song, Romeo and Juliet (The Killers also played a short snippet of this when they came in Verona two months ago). I don't like it as much as the original but it's still an awesome cover :)

I loooove this song too, yes it's amazing cover, I started to love The Killers with that cover :nice: yes I watched that snippet :wacky:

4. A folkish song based on acustic guitar. For some reason it reminds me of the folk/prog rock band Kansas but I don't think it's them. It has a really nice melody but gets a bit repetitive.

nope this is Bon Iver, My fav song from them, if you like this you can also check the live version from glasto :

amazing:stunned:

5. There was still the album cover on this one. It's the cover of the White Lies' debut album and, judging from the lyrics, this song is... the title track :P. Anyway, I never listened to them. I think this song is quite catchy and has a very good and powerful bass line and the vocals are really deep but doesn't do a lot to me. :\

ugh sorry i thought i deleted all the infos :/ i love vocals, i love deep voices like that, after 1 minute it goes pretty well  but ok, if you don't like it :nice:

6. Ooh, acustic guitar again! "Little ghost, little ghost!", a woman and a man sing. Sounds like a fast, happy country-ish song. The vocals are kind of annoying to me. Least favourite of the tape, sorry :(

aww this was the white stripes :( I used to a huge fan of them, but now i just listen 2-3 songs from them, and ok again if you don't like this song but you should give a try another songs from them ;)

7. Hey, I recognise this too! This is Dry Your Eyes by The Streets featuring our Chris. Really dig this one.

yes!! :) I just wanted to put something coldplay related

8. A fast pop-punk song with a female singer. I'm pretty sure I've already heard this, in an advert maybe? Not a big fan though.

this is florence! I love the lyrics of that song :D

You hit me once

I hit you back

You gave a kick

I gave a slap

You smashed a plate over my head

Then I set fire to our bed

:P

9. Starts with a weird backwards sound, but then it becomes a "normal" alt rock song. It's one of those songs which makes you feel happy and a bit ummm, nostalgic, I should say, at the same time. One of the best of the mixtape.

yeah I think this is one of the best songs from Indie history!

10. A syncopathed rythm and a violin introduce the song. It's very catchy and has a sort of '80s vibe. It's quite cheesy but not too much.

I think you're gonna love that band, kings of convenience, me in you and homesick also such good songs from that band... I love the style of this band, just guitar and vocal and sometimes violin and some other instruments

11.Wow, what an uplifting song! Sounds indeed like a "bold anthem" but it's not all over the place. The chorus melody sounds quite familiar. Could this be Elbow or am I totally getting it wrong?

the vacancies! i thought that after some calm songs, that would be great to wake up!

12. Oh, this is one of the cutest songs ever . Itunes says it's If I Were A Fish by Mùm. The vocals are sung by two women and it's pratically a rhyme accopained by a lovely acustic guitar melody. I really like this one too :nice:

aww :wacky: yes this song is the cutest thing in this mixtape wacky:

look at those lyrics :wacky:

If I were a fish and you were a seashell

Would you marry me anyway?

Would you have my babies?

13."We're out looking for astronauts, looking for astronauts" a deep voice sings. I really like how this song progresses: it first starts with a very "dreamy" guitar and then a string arragement kicks in to create an even more... etheral, I'd say, atmosphere. Favorite track of the mixtape

the national! i love that vocal too, a deep voice again!

14. This one sounds like.......... sirtaki music? But the language is not greek. So, could this be Turkish folk music? I usually don't like mediterranean music (Italian music included) but I quite like this one.

while i was looking for musics to put mixtape, i stumbled upon this song. I thought a nice turkish song would be great :) :) this is not a folk music but they were one of the biggest band in turkey in 80s-90s :nice: yes they sound like greek&mediterranen music which I like sometimes :)

15. The last song is again based on guitars (both acustic and electric this time). It's quite a melancholy song but not sad/depressing at all. Really good closer.

this is my fav song from Travis, this song takes me elsewhere while I'm listening to it...:wacky: yes it's quite melancholy but not depressing, it has something in lyrics and guitar, i don't know. take me.. don't leave me..., I just love it :D

Overally, the mixtape was really good. It's not the stuff I'm into right now and I'd have prefered a bit more variety but it flowed really well and I really loved some songs.

Trying to guess, is this Ceren(Jeremyy)'s mixtape?

Either way, well done!

sooorrrry i always forgot to post the song list here

I bumped into Ian Brown on the street in Oslo during the Øya festival. Just gonna put that out there...

Hah, how was that?

Sure, I can try listening to some more Blur. I bought one album and ended up not listening to it much :nice:

Which one, out of curiosity?

 Thanks Dee, you have great taste.

Thank you, you do too

Also I plan on listening to all of these whenever I can find time :surprised:

Hah, how was that?

I'd just gotten off the train, and walked past a guy and thought, wow, that looked like the Stone Roses guy. And that's it

Their selftitled one, which is the one I've heard most praise for, except for Parklife.

AWWW YES. This looks niiiiice.

From the description of the first song I was already thinking 'this can't be Comforting Sounds' right? But then I thought people would put it at the end of the mixtape so it probably wouldn't. But it is :D

Ah you have also Múm on your tape, like Dee :) My feelings about Múm are so two-sided. I absolutely adore some of their stuff, but some stuff also makes me cringe :S Ólöf Arnalds is in the band as well, some of you might know her solo stuff and Ólafur Arnalds is her nephew (I love his stuff too). But because in general Múm's music is cute, their artwork is the most amazing stuff ever (Ingibjörg and Lilja Birgisdóttir make it for Sigur Rós and Seabear as well, they are sisters of Jonsí) and some songs are sooooooo pretty, I would definitely recommend people to check them out.

omg, these Icelandic people are really one big family :S

I had no idea Ólöf Arnalds was a member of múm. How neat! I'll have to look into them.

Also, I thought Ólöf and Ólafur were cousins.

:bomb: Auw! He is. Sorry, that's my bad English. I literally translated Dutch 'neef' into nephew but it should be cousin. You're right.

ohh i didn't know that  these Icelandic people have different kind of voice! I don't know maybe it's in their genes

Hi Coldlocked, I am your mixtape maker. Sorry for the late reply, I was hoping you would review the rest as well, but I haven't heard anything from you since so I guess that might be it. I know you received the new link to the mixtape because the one you got first lead to a malfunctioning zipped file. It's a pity, I'd have loved you to hear the mix in its whole from the beginning.

Well, I don't know if I get more feedback but to encourage some I'll just reply to the review part you already wrote. It's in cyan color in the quote:

Finally after downloading the whole thing (internet is super slow) I'm putting in my review!

Intro: Ooh, opera type! It sounds great and has a great way of crescendos, decrescendos and going right into track one.

I like weirdness in tapes, I liked the idea of starting the tape with some old classic stuff that is used various times as a cliché intro in movies and commercials (eg. Jackass the movie). It's the first part of Carl Orff - O Fortuna. They sing "O Fortune, like the moon you are changeable" in Latin which is also like the mixtape, the style changing all the time.

I am glad you could appreciate it!

1. Okay, first of all, whoever is singing sounds like someone from Apparatjik. But that aside, I like the lyricism of the song and the guitar.

Hahaha, he sounds like that because he is from Apparatjik. This is Mew with Snow Brigade. Jonas Bjerre is the frontman of Mew.

2. The gentle voice of the singer makes this song very comforting in the beginning. I like the whole echo thing, it adds another dimension to the song! OUTSIDE! OUTSIDE! OUTSIDE! (one place i need to go...) I'm guessing it's about a relationship with problems... But that's just me.

It's a bit strange because track two is not what you describe here :S This is track 3 you are reviewing. I blame it on the faulty mixtape file :S Anyway, track 3 I mixed with track 4 because the end of 3 has some seriously lowered down vocals in the end much like how track 4 starts. It is so strange because they are both very different songs - the first one is your typical acoustic indie song and the second one some psychedelic electronics - but they play around with their songs so much that somehow I could mix them into eachother and I can see by your review from track 4 that indeed you cannot hear clearly where no.3 ends and no.4 starts because "Temptation's forever" is said at the end of track 3. It's Guillemots - Outside. Yeah, as you said it starts with a comforting voice singing soft to you, sounding like he's close to you and then later on he gets more upset in his singing and sounds further away

3. Wait, this is a copy of track two...

4. "Temptations forever" The constant drumbeat just makes you wait in suspense of when the song really does start... Then you hear the atmospheric noise and the drums return after. After the intro, a very angelic voice comes in, adding to the atmosphere noise. "over and out" This song does have a spacey theme to it, doesn't it? The use of a female echo just makes it just... indescribably great. I'd download this.

This is so trippy :) I saw that Nattatouille also put a song of this album in her mixtape. Hooray for Earth - Black Trees. The song doesn't start with "Temptation's Forever" :P but the drum pattern is definitely theirs. I'm sure Twisted Mind also would love this track.

5 and 6 won't open.... Because 7Zip says that the files are broken... >.<

Overall, I give it a 7.5/10

(So that's really good!)

I don't know if you tried the other link? If you do you will find 11 more songs on it! Most also mixed into eachother because it's ... a real mixtape :wink3:

Tracklisting so far:

Intro: Carl Orff - O Fortuna (Carmina Burana, 1936)

Track 1: Mew - Snow Brigade (Frengers, 2003)

Track 3: Guillemots - Outside (Hello Earth!, 2012)

Track 4: Hooray for Earth - Black Trees (True Loves, 2011)

If you don't feel like reviewing the rest I can send the link to someone else. Just tell me.

Woo, I guessed it right!

I'm surprised that I didn't like the White Stripes song, because I usually really like them. Also, I changed my mind about The Vaccines (I honestly think that If You Wanna is one of the worst songs ever), because I really liked Wetsuit! :wacky:

Thank you again! :nice:

11. Wetsuit- The Vacancies

It's The Vaccines, not The Vacancies :blank:

But otherwise, a nice tape! I like the inclusion of Kings of Convenience!

hahah sorry for the misspelling

fixed!

When do we start the second round of mixtape reviewing? It's been a month now and I don't know how long we should wait?
