^ A track from "Diamond Mine" :awesome: Love that album.

Thanks to the great Radio 6 and last's years Mercury Prize I discovered that record which I otherwise would have (unfortunately) have missed.

Because if you are a still pre-18 years ( :D ), you don't know really know King Creosote or Jon Hopkins :D

I've listened to it in parts, but haven't had the chance to write notes on them.

I checked it out because I knew of Jon Hopkins beforehand. I really want to get more into King Creosote's stuff, but he has like 12973012 albums, and I have no idea where to start. :bomb:

I liked a muse song

:wacky:

I just saw the other cover you sent me called "notes" that was really cool too :wacky:

I liked a muse song

I had the same reaction reading the reply to your review. 'Eddie liked a Muse song, he is gonna want to shoot himself in the face'. D:

Hello, here's my review. I apologize, I had technical difficulties being a novice of...21st century... and had a crazy week.. Anywho, here are my thoughts of the mixtape:

No problem, I can definitely relate to that  Hey, my name's Will and I made your mixtape

1. Starts with guitar and drums. Was quite surprised when I heard the rolling of the drums. I feel like I'm on a mission... an exciting song to begin with.

There's a somewhat dramatic and driving, but at the same time laid back vibe to this. The instrumentation is fantastic, and I fell for it the first time I heard it. This song is from the month old "Shields" by a Brooklyn band called Grizzly Bear.

2. Wow, I'm quite speechless. Who is this artist?! I can picture this in a suspense movie ( I swear it's not because Halloween just ended).. I love it!

I'm a little surprised you liked this to be honest. I assume you're reffering to his voice?

Mark Lanegan - St. Louis Elegy off Blues Funeral

3. Starts with nice female vocals. It has this echoey atmosphere. Actually I hear two female singers after a minute of the song... Can't wait to hear who they are, love their voices-- and they sing the lyrics super clear..

This is a duo consisting of two sisters from Sweden, who've made an international success this year with their second album, The Lion's Roar. They're incredible musicians and songwriters, and one of the best acts I saw at Øya this year. You should definitely give them listen.

4. This song has an interesting atmosphere. I like the melody. It sort of has a mysterious feel to it.

All of Beach House's music has that certain vibe, which I really like. Troublemaker from Bloom.

5. Sounds like this song is about a girl talking about her ex's new gf... I feel like this girl is going to kill his ex, haha... It has strong instrumental, so of course I love it.

I don't think that's what it's about, haha. It's more metaphorical. I saw this band open for Elbow last year, and bought their CD afterwards. It think they opened for Coldplay at some point too. Howling Bells - The Loudest Engine.

6. Some reason this song of reminds me of the 70's. Easy listening and an uplifting song. I believe this song inspired the album's name “Skyscrapers”. :)

One of my favorite songs, I think. It's so beautiful and so minimalistic at the same time, and yes, Skyscrapers is borrowed from here.

7. Starts with another nice female vocals. Sounds sophisticated and has a jazzy feel.

Canadian Indie-queen Feist took a step away from folk with Metals. This is How Come You Never Go There.

8. I think this song is slightly different from the previous songs because it feels more contemporary, but still has classical instruments like piano and violin and harp (I think? I don't know my instruments). It has a beeping in the background starting mid way through the song.

Yeah, that sounds about right. This is the title-track off Susanne Sundfør's newest album, The Silicone Veil which uses more contemporary influences than her earlier work.

I've seen her live twice, and both times have been some of the best concerts I've been to.

9. Starts with piano and drums. To me, it's hard to make out what the singer is saying but I enjoy the instrumental and very chill song; quite a few surprises middle of the song too.

This is an Elbow b-side which is the first track on their new b-side album Dead In the Boot.

10. I feel like I'm in an aquarium? I don't know what instrument in the background, like a flute? Pretty song. It's quite different compared to the previous songs. For some reason it reminds me of summer near a beach or start of spring, nice..

Aside from the guitars there's a synth I think. It's very pretty but very sad, since it's about a woman who dies during childbirth. From the concept album Young Man In America.

11. Sorry, I'm not a fan of the vocals. But I think this melody is quite catchy.

Awh  The National - Friend of Mine

12. The sound of this song kind of reminds me of song #10 but more dynamic.

Maybe a little bit. Psychedelic pop man Kurt Vile - Society Is My Friend.

13. Interesting strumming of electric guitar. Not sure, I feel like this song is kind of slow and too repetitive for me... Sorry, not my favorite.

The rhythyms in general are pretty unusual. I really like it, but Dirty Projectors are a little hard to get into.

14. Has both male and female vocals; acoustic and piano. Pretty song and it's quite calming.

Earler this year I listened to this at least twice a day. Dan Mangan - The Indie Queens are Waiting

15. I already like the beginning of this song. I feel like dancing, haha. And did you read my mind? I love the upbeat drums and guitar. Anywho, great choice for the last song of the mixtape, feel like it's just the start of the celebration or “..one big holiday..”. I'll be repeating this song for a while.

Sweet! "One Big Holiday" is the title, and it's by My Morning Jacket, one of my favorite bands.

This was an excellent mixtape and I loved how the songs flowed very well together. Hard to choose which ones are my favorites but the ones that really stood out for me are song#: 1, 2, 5, 8, and 15. Thank you for the effort you put into making this! I really enjoyed listening and my ears are happy. I'm excited to see who these artists are! :)

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it :nice: You are most welcome. the tracklist:

Hi, I am your mixtaper. First of all, I would thank Black Rose for assigning me you as a partner and from your first post I completely knew that I could not have a better partner because the bands you like gave me an idea what could mean ‘attractive’ to you, at the same time what made me happy was that you looked curious about listening to some of the old stuffs. I decided to put a mixtape that gathers all the different instruments, voices and more importantly the feelings that makes you cry, dance, smile and feeling all sad and speechless. I am VERY VERY happy to know that my mixtape could do what it was intended to do. :)

Thank you for such a wonderful review, god certainly blessed you with kind ears.

Yay! Finally the weekend! I am so sorry that I could not post my review before, I wanted to have enough time to write it while listening to the songs, and just now is when i got the chance.

My mixtape had 16 songs in it, and the folder's name was "A Twisted View"... No clue of what that means.

The title came from a lyric “How can a view become so twisted?” that you will hear in Track #2. That’s how I come up with some suitable titles. haha

Review time!

01. Nice way to start the list. I love the piano at the beginning and throughout the song. It is exactly the kind of music I listen to! Lovely song. I love the intro. Her voice is amazing, and I love the lyrics of the song! I think I have heard them before, but I have no clue of who it is!

It’s “So much to say by Lisa Mitchell” from her new album ‘Bless this mess’. She’s an Australian based singer (born in Canterbury, England). This could only be the best and first choice for me at the moment because I’m deeply in love with her voice, such a perfect album and you can guess this is so far my favorite track off the album. When she sings “So much to say”, here her voice brings out that pain which you feel when you wish to say “So much” to someone and it remains unsaid. It’s exactly for that.

02. Nice beat! Maybe a bit too repetitive for me though. I enjoyed it anyways! After listening to it several times, it kind of grew on me! I do not think I have heard this band, but I cannot help but to think I have! So difficult!

It’s called “The Things You said by Depeche Mode”. Since you wanted me to put reasonably good and old stuffs. Depeche Mode was going to be my first choice. This song is the 80s track off Depeche Mode’s album ‘Music For The Masses”, Love their debut stuffs very much so after a lot of decision-making, I decided to put two songs by them (at least). This was one of them. It makes you feel that fear when you get so close so people that you are not even afraid to share your weaknesses and remain honest. It sort of speaks of those things when you see a totally changed opinion about youself from someone so close to you.

03. I am guessing it is the same artist as the first song. It sounds familiar, but I cannot figure it out! Great song. Her voice reminds me of Coeur de Pirate! It is kind of a sad song, and the first day I listened to it I was having a crappy day, so it helped me feel better! And I love the lyrics too. Oh God, the piano! Loved it.

Haha you got it right! It wasn’t difficult to guess or was it? It’s “Diamonds in the rough by Lisa Mitchell” (again) It’s a lovely song with those “umm cha cha umm cha” Love this one. My 2nd choice off the album for you.

04. I love the organ-like sound in the back. It is a very relaxing song. I could not help but sing this song whenever I listened to it again. The lyrics are so true! Lol. Slow song, kind of sad, and then it has this kind of “BOOM” to it, which is perfect. I never listened that voice before, so it was very interesting.

I was kinda nervous that you’d recognize this one. Glad you didn’t haha It’s “My Body Is A Cage by Arcade Fire”. Yes I don’t know what you call it but you can hear those orchestral sounds that you hear in a church and it just gets all “Boom” as you said. My favorite song by Arcade Fire. Lyrics speak about a dual personality when you have a different soul imprisoned in your body, creepy eh? Lol

05. I know this band… I have heard this song before… Ja! My roommate came screaming into my room asking why I was listening to the Arctic Monkeys… lol. She is a huge fan. I am not so much. But I loved this song, and it managed to stay stuck in my head. So congrats! You made me like a song by the Arctic Monkeys. Lol. It is so romantic and sad at the same time.

Haha OMG that cracked me up because I have never been a Monkeys fan either but LOVE this track and happy that I made you to like it. This is from their last album “Suck It And See”. It was highly likely that you’d be able to figure it out instead your roomie did that haha :P

06. I love the rhythm! And his voice. I am almost sure I have heard them before, but no clue. I got stuck in my head as well, lol. The guitar at the end sound so great! It is weird/unusual how it has this intro and ending that are so different compared to the rest of the song.

OF COURSE, you must have heard them before. They are “Blur” lol, this is their infamous “Coffee&TV” from their album ‘13’. My favorite track by them. It was another “easy to figure out”. It just makes you feel like living as some sort of weird creature in a totally different world and you just love to grow in your own world no matter what.

07. And we are back to the slow songs! This sounds like Radiohead… It is a sad song! But I really liked it. Not much to say about it though.

Haha you made me laugh again because this DOES sound like Radiohead, even the whole world thought so until a Canadian guy came up called ““Christopher Stopa” who claimed that it was his own unnamed/lost song that he made about 10 years ago. “Sit still by Christopher Stopa”, it indeed is sad and makes you cry for a moment. I was afraid may be you wouldn’t like it but very happy to hear that you did.

08. Well. This is new. I have never heard that voice before, and I am not sure of what they say when they sing in like a choir… lol. Slow song, and catchy beat. He sounds like an old man… And it feels like an old song too, for some reason.

Well. This is another oldie lol One of my favorites by David Bowie ”Afterall” from his album ‘The Man Who Sold The World’. Yes we call that “Orchestra” and the lyrics are straight and simple which is why I sometimes fall in love with such songs. What a lovely track.

09. Again, I think I know this band! Nice song. I think it is the same guy/band as in the track 02… but it is a different beat. I liked the lyrics, and it is really catchy. And it sounds like an old song too! Is this the old songs section?! YAAAY! Kind of repetitive and the end though!...

You got great ears as you recognized the ‘style’ straightaway. Yes you are right, it’s another Depeche Mode track called “Walking In My Shoes” from their 90s album “Songs Of Faith And Devotion”. My 2nd favorite by them and it’s one of those creepily rebellious tunes which makes you feel of those things that you have always done for people and you can see they can’t do the same for you if they were in your place when Dave sings “Try walking in my shoes”. It gives me tingles every time.

10. Loved this one! I like the combination of different sounds in a song. I love when the drums start playing again, and his voice is nice. It is so romantic! I loved this song so much! Never heard his voice before, so I am pretty curious!

I KNEW you’d love this track, it’s got that “full of charm” voice of Fran Healy (from Travis). It’s “Anything by Fran Healy” from his solo album “Wreckorder”. Love it so much. It’s so romantic, yes! Perfectly emotional and that ‘soft’ bassline makes you feel all sobby and romantic at the same time. :3

11. Loved the beginning of this song! Sounds a bit familiar, but I have no clue!!! I really liked it! I like how it kept the same sound throughout, but his voice did not make it feel like that at all. Nice song!!!

It’s ‘Doncamatic by Gorillaz’ from their last album ‘Plastic Beach’ which I really love. I wanted to put a track with some raw acoustic guitar on it but then I rather picked this one based solely on raw percussions and a modern voice. I reckon I am gonna make my 2 years old cousin listen to this and I’m sure even he is going to love those percussions. Haha

12. Hmm… saxophones? Interesting… makes it sound romantic at the beginning… could not understand much of the lyrics though. I have no clue of who it is, never heard it before! I think…

Yeah Saxophones straightaway, how about that? Haha It’s got that ‘Anthem’ sort of ambience. Heavily on Saxophones. I love this song, “Breakfast of fools by Hudson Hank”. This is one of those new bands supported by Guy Berryman recently and they have great tunes Indeed. Check out their soundcloud as reference.

13. Ok. Funny story. All this happened the day I was feeling crappy because it was an awful day. I was wearing my new boots. This song came on when I was walking back home, and it put a smile on my face… THANK YOU, PARTNER, FOR CHEERING ME UP LIKE THAT! None of my friends could do it… lol. Sometimes all you need is a song. Needless to say, I loved this song. It has a dancey beat! No idea of who it is though, loved his voice!

It’s “New shoes by Paolo Nutini” from his album “These Streets”. Keeping in mind that you have a major love for Indie music (guessing from your aforementioned likings) this was a perfect choice and I knew it would cheer you up with excitement and I am delighted to hear that it did exactly the same. Haha This song inspired me to do something which I usually do whilst I’m having a depressing day, I just go online and order some new stuffs be it new/old albums and anything usable. It feels so great.

14. Whistling! Nice piano intro… I like how the drums and the rest of the instruments start playing and coming together. Guitar riff. I really like this song. No clue of who it is, but it is definitively staying! I like his voice, and how the song changes rhythms… :). Amazing ending! And I really enjoyed the lyrics!

It’s “Glory by Radical Face” from their album “Ghost”. I knew you would love this track because it has that same kind of vibes that you heard in Lisa Mitchell’s songs earlier. It’s a perfect musical harmony going in parallel with some soft notes on a piano and slow drums. The voice creates a deep echoic effect. Great group. You will love their album.

15. Almost at the end of this amazing playlist! Voices in the background, and a piano playing! Oh god!!! A music box. This is great. I cannot really understand what he says at the beginning. It sounds like the previous band! It is the previous band!! Oh YEAAAHH. LOVELY! I applaud you, partner, thanks for putting two of the same great band!

YOU GOT IT (again)! Haha Yes this is the same band as previous track but who cares when you have a bunch of tracks from the same artists to entertain somebody. It’s “Let the river in by Radical Face”.

It has the same kind of atmosphere and voice besides percussions and the strings in addition which are either Mandolin or Ukulele, I am not sure but it makes you feel awesome. It had to be in there and as expected, I knew you’d be thrilled after hearing this. Haha

16. Last song! Ajajajaja! LOVE THIS. You made me dance in the middle of my kitchen! And in the middle of the halls! And on my way home, and right now while I write this! Jajaja I love this song! But never heard the beginning of it! AMAZING SONG! AWESOME ending to the playlist. It has everything in it! Piano, saxophones, guitars, drums, and a great voice!!!

Now here I decided to put a ‘finisher’. Just as you can hear ETIAW finishing a Coldplay show. In the end, you just want to shake your shoulders a bit and get back in a dance mood to feel all happy about it. I am so happy that it did exactly what it was intended for. It’s “How you like me now by The Heavy” from their album “The House that dirt built”. I am gonna check them out myself.

So, overall, 9/10! I really enjoyed listening to this, and the more i hear it, the more i like it.

Cannot wait to know the tracklist!!! :D

Last but not the least, Mission accomplished!! I am happy to compile a mixtape which has got everything I thought and a compatible partner to see what it was meant to do so I’m quite happy about it.
