It's okay, Chris, we have a different taste in music in general. It isn't my favourite song of his, maybe you wouldn't think he is a douchebag had the song been different. OH WELL.

wanna fight? UH? UH? bring it on, big boy, I can take you any time, I've tackled more than my share of moose growing up in the cold North, I aint scared.:veryangry:

:kiss::kiss::kiss:

haha, I've liked the other songs I've been sent by him from other people. I have nothing against Damien Rice or his music. Just saying my honest to god reaction to that particular song was a douchey college kid playing guitar on the quad in hopes of getting laid.

Was it that obvious?

Given some of the threads I've seen you post in and that Fran had already revealed himself, it wasn't hard. The Plan B inclusion gave it away for me.

Thanks again to Rafael (already calling people here by their real names :D ) for introducing me to that music, I think now is some research time to follow lots of new bands etc. ;)

Hey, so here's my review of the tape I got :), I'm not really good at it but let's go:

1- I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure that’s Vampire Weekend. I like this, it’s a good track, the drums and the keyboards work really well together. The synths seem like a videogame soundtrack, like Mario or something like that. The best word to describe would be “fun”.

2- That’s Pink Floyd! Acoustic guitars, pianos and strings, don’t remember the name of it but I know it’s from The Final Cut. Listening to it without knowing who was at the start made me think of Lou Reed though. I like this one.

3- The transition from the previous song into this one is perfect, seem almost like part of the same album. The song itself is not bad, but not something I like, seems really radio friendly. The verses aren’t that bad, but the chorus and the arrangement are too generic. The guy’s voice remembered me Train, don’t know if it’s really them.

4- This one is awesome, is it Freddy Mercury singing? Lots of guitars and really high falsettos, I love it! Thanks for this one!

5- Not bad, I have a feeling I could have already heard it before. It’s a good song but nothing really special or remarkable about this one, it's built around an acoustic guitar and his voice, then we have some drums and bass, it’s ok.

6- Oh, I like this! A bit folky, the guy’s voice is strange in a good way and the backing vocals are gorgeous. Really digging into this one, the synth riff that starts by the middle of the song is awesome.

7- Nice melancholic track, the arrangement is really good, the strings, the piano and the backing vocals make a really interesting atmosphere.

8- Really boring instrumental track, a long beach sounding song with the sound of waves and “SpongeBob square pants” end credits feel, really long track by the way, this is over 6 minutes of the same thing. Can’t really like this one.

9- Really nice guitars on this, the parts with singing are the least interesting, really like those riffs. A good one.

10- Remembers me a bit of The X-Files soundtrack, I like the sounds that go along with this track, construction noises and this kind of thing. I was thinking it would be an instrumental, but there are vocals by the middle of it, this one is OK.

11- Well, I admit I had high hopes with this one because you called the file “King Track 11”, well not as good as expected but it’s ok, great bass going on here.

12- “And His Wife, Queen Track 12”, I like the strings and “ooouuuuhh” parts. It ends on the perfect length, 2 really effective minutes.

13- “..Prince 13”, again, I really like the strings on this one, a good song overall, nice harmonica near the end, the chorus gets a bit repetitive though.

14- This was so unexpected I laughed on the first listen. A 2 minute instrumental with a celtic feel, flutes and some nice drums by the end, it’s ok, I like the fact it’s completely different from the track before.

15- Hey, Coldplay on my mix tape! Cemeteries of London is a great song, It works really well on Viva La Vida, thanks for putting, I really like this one.

16- Heartbeats and thunders on the start, than some rain. Very soundtrackish instrumental, the synths or strings made me think of Batman Begins.A bit long but it keeps changing so it doesn’t get boring, not bad and pretty interesting.

17- Sad piano song, pretty harmless, can’t say I don’t like, can’t say I like too. The strings make it better actually.

18- Hey, this is Franz Ferdinand! Can’t remember the name of the track though :embarrassed:. Great song! Love the riff, has kinda a Black Keys feeling to it.

19- I got admit I have a thing for electronic stuff, and I’m glad this song is here, everything is in the right place on this track, really like the strange synth bridge, curious to know the artist.

20- Bon Iver! This is Perth, really like the guitar riff of the track and the way his voice goes with it. The “march” feeling of the drums is awesome too :awesome:, I really like this track, thank you for putting :nice:

21- This is a really good one, loud drums and beautiful guitars with some brass sections, and the best part is: it’s another instrumental :D. Really different song.

22- Acoustic guitars now, I was expecting someone to start singing the whole time, It’s not bad, but not really interesting too.

23- Delicate guitars on the start, things get more interesting after and the chorus is pretty loud. I kind that like it, should listen to it more times, maybe I’ll like more If I listen to this without the rest of the tape, I’m always pretty tired when I get here.

24- That’s nice, has a blues rock feel to it. I like the lyrics “I’ve got no money but some big ideas”. One of the catchiest of the tape.

25- Don’t really like this track, it goes, goes, goes and doesn’t get anywhere, don’t hate it, but don’t like it at all.

The tape was quite nice, there were some really good tracks in it. I just think it was a bit too long for me, it’s hard to listen to 90 minutes of music in a row really paying attention to all the songs. But whatever, from the ones I didn’t know about my favourites were tracks 4, 6, 9, 19 and 24. Thanks for making it, I had a great time listening to it :D

What amazed me was the mixtape file size which is just over 80 MB; I assumed it to be around ~60-65 minutes, 13-15 songs, but wait this is just over ~55 mins and there are 18 tracks. :surprised: Most of the tracks are under 3 minutes, I get the feeling “this is gonna be exciting”. It grabbed my attention and made me pretty curious immediately.

Here’s my review from the beginning:

Track 1. So this mixtape starts with a nice, plain layer of piano, a typical intro and I get the feeling that the mixtape is gonna flow pretty nicely from here. A clean and a pretty soft piano instrumental, would love to add it on my morning playlist.

Track 2. Wow, it ensured me that it’s going to be a ‘standalone’ song on the mixtape. It reminded me of my early teenage “Wiz Khalifa” sort of ‘Arabian’ rap obsession lol A fast rap throughout the song, Male voice; rap; expressive. I loved when the flute sounds come into play @1:10 onwards going sort of Polyphonic from here. I like this one for a fast tempo and mixes more than its lyrics.

Track 3: This is ‘Kanye West’ but wait! I never heard this track before. I start to love it at first listen.. as I heard ‘Streetlights’, I googled the lyrics and yes I was right, it is Streetlights by Kanye.. used to be a fan of him. Totally love it. Almost reminded me of “Heartless” one of my favorites by him.

Track4: It starts off with an acoustic guitar solo, reminds me of Radiohead for a moment. with a simple echoic (but slightly ambient) male voice, almost sounds like a backing vocal which dominates from 1:50 onwards. Repeated guitar chords making it a sober acoustic melody. “Innocent” won’t be a wrong word.

Track 5: “A RIPPER” This almost made me to dance, ‘Kicks’ off with strong guitars, wow totally different from what I used to listen. A male voice which competes well throughout with an atmosphere created initially . I couldn’t resist some headbanging as he started singing. lol Then those ‘Na Na Na’ voices coming off and the song goes even more awesome from here. Groovy and pulsating.

Track 6: Wow, starts off straight with a male voice with an exciting texture of Guitar, reminds me of The Edge playing in U2’s song “Discotheque” but less syncopated and consistent. Great male voice with those “ooh ooh” from 1:10 onwards. A typical arpeggio following around 2:00. I like it. Btw you forgot to delete the song info on this one haha but I told ya before that I’m absolutely cool with it  “Buddy Holly” by Weezer.

Track 7: THIS IS THE CUTEST. At least at this point I don’t think that another song will feel the same on this mixtape. Starts with an awesome bassline that gives a creepy feeling in a good way. It makes me feel that it’s more like those attractively entertaining tunes, a very cute male voice singing in a sort of 'daily life' fashion and the bass follows throughout then 1:07 onwards, I got chills just from the cuteness of his voice. WOW 1:40 was the best thing in the song haha Modern lyrics :3 and from 2:09 onwards, it goes in a different zone and makes me want to dance a bit. “An unchained melody”. Oh you forgot to delete the info on this one too. ‘Gronlandic Edit by Of Montreal’

Track 8: Starts off with “ah ah’s” and some acoustic guitar chords then the background layer comes in; sounds like a bit of Tabla if I’m not wrong or may be a Bongo or something giving a delicious touch to the song followed by some nice ‘collective’ singing and great track! those “Meows Meows.. Kitties” part was pretty cool. Loved it. Yes it’s “Leaf House by Animal Collective” it was in the song info haha

Track 9: Here comes my FIRST CRUSH off the mixtape. Starts off with a Depeche Mode 80s style eletronica synth and then those “Aaah Aah” absolutely reminds me of Bat For Lashes, the voice are much softer as compared to Natasha’s though but flows pretty nicely from the beginning till the end, Since I love both DM and Bat For Lashes, I’d call it an amusing mixture of them. Love this one.

Track 10: It proved me wrong while I was thinking that there couldn’t be a cuter song on this mixtape. This one is definitely THE CUTEST haha Starts off with a heart mellowing , simple acoustic guitar chords. A pretty young voice of a girl, Excited to know how old though haha pretty cute when singing “Funny little Thing” I clearly love this song more for her voice. Oh btw the song is called “Bridges and Balloons by Joanna Newsom” same reasons how I knew a few earlier titles :P

Track 11: I love the bass and theme of this track, change of textures in the mid and the singing was beautiful and love such tracks which takes you in their own shimmering zone. It is called “Chinatown by Wild Nothing”.

Track 12: On this one, I could hardly figure out the lyrics because I don’t know either the vocals were a bit low or the quality of the song file. Although the tune reminded me of the 80s perhaps? for a while, Shady atmospherics and gives you a dynamic feeling. Drums are dominating throughout the track which I really love and it’s a beautiful track indeed.

Track 13: This one reminds me of those echoes I heard in Radical Face’s album and that is why I love them. “I am going to like this immediately” Quite fairy, melancholic and ambient. I love how the piano bits dissolve with the voice and create an enchanting atmosphere. :3

Track 14: WOWOW! This song sort of took me to the bottom of an ocean. Lyrics talking about Octopus, tentacles, etc. which get along well with some “Robotic sounds” love, love it. I love how it describes a girl relationship with these things. This one sets the tone of the whole mixtape for me. It is called “Mermaid Sashimi by Juan Son”

Track15: Another “Animal Collective” track eh? But I think I liked the one I heard before but it might well be a grower for me. I like their style though. It’s called “Grass By Animal Collective”

Track 16: Starts off with a nice, smooth and a beautiful guitar riif and I know I am going to like this one. Sounds like a typical 80s track? it’s totally my thing. The lyrics are plain and simple. This will go on my new playlist straightaway. Quite like this one.

Track 17: I love those chiming guitars as it starts with a female voice and the song goes on a bit softer from here and elevates with more bass and textures around 2:00 onwards. I’d especially mention of those sweet backing vocals here singing “Lovvvvvvveeeely” GREAT SONG!

Track 18: I didn’t realize the mixtape was going to end with this but this is a nice song and a good ‘finisher’ which I added intentionally on my own mixtape as well just to give the same feeling. Anyway, it starts off with male voices and other voices in the background making it all ambient, at the same time you just feel something ‘chaotic’ is going on in background voices ,feels perfect!

My favorite tracks are: #1, #3, #5, #7, #9, #10, #11, #14, #16, #17 ; Overall a success.

I would give this mixtape 9.4/10, except one song, It amazed me throughout and gives me an enormous satisfaction which you always expect before taking part. My partner did a great job! More than anything, I appreciate the time my mixtaper took out to compile this and each song gave me a feeling “Wait, I have never ever heard this before”, pretty enjoyable and a solid entertainment and I feel happy to do my first CPing mixtape exchange. Probably my first thread thingy on CPing otherwise I don’t come over here except when the band is on tour.

Review!!!

Yay! Finally the weekend! I am so sorry that I could not post my review before, I wanted to have enough time to write it while listening to the songs, and just now is when i got the chance.

My mixtape had 16 songs in it, and the folder's name was "A Twisted View"... No clue of what that means.

Review time!

01. Nice way to start the list. I love the piano at the beginning and throughout the song. It is exactly the kind of music I listen to! Lovely song. I love the intro. Her voice is amazing, and I love the lyrics of the song! I think I have heard them before, but I have no clue of who it is!

02. Nice beat! Maybe a bit too repetitive for me though. I enjoyed it anyways! After listening to it several times, it kind of grew on me! I do not think I have heard this band, but I cannot help but to think I have! So difficult!

03. I am guessing it is the same artist as the first song. It sounds familiar, but I cannot figure it out! Great song. Her voice reminds me of Coeur de Pirate! It is kind of a sad song, and the first day I listened to it I was having a crappy day, so it helped me feel better! And I love the lyrics too. Oh God, the piano! Loved it.

04. I love the organ-like sound in the back. It is a very relaxing song. I could not help but sing this song whenever I listened to it again. The lyrics are so true! Lol. Slow song, kind of sad, and then it has this kind of “BOOM” to it, which is perfect. I never listened that voice before, so it was very interesting.

05. I know this band… I have heard this song before… Ja! My roommate came screaming into my room asking why I was listening to the Arctic Monkeys… lol. She is a huge fan. I am not so much. But I loved this song, and it managed to stay stuck in my head. So congrats! You made me like a song by the Arctic Monkeys. Lol. It is so romantic and sad at the same time.

06. I love the rhythm! And his voice. I am almost sure I have heard them before, but no clue. I got stuck in my head as well, lol. The guitar at the end sound so great! It is weird/unusual how it has this intro and ending that are so different compared to the rest of the song.

07. And we are back to the slow songs! This sounds like Radiohead… It is a sad song! But I really liked it. Not much to say about it though.

08. Well. This is new. I have never heard that voice before, and I am not sure of what they say when they sing in like a choir… lol. Slow song, and catchy beat. He sounds like an old man… And it feels like an old song too, for some reason.

09. Again, I think I know this band! Nice song. I think it is the same guy/band as in the track 02… but it is a different beat. I liked the lyrics, and it is really catchy. And it sounds like an old song too! Is this the old songs section?! YAAAY! Kind of repetitive and the end though!...

10. Loved this one! I like the combination of different sounds in a song. I love when the drums start playing again, and his voice is nice. It is so romantic! I loved this song so much! Never heard his voice before, so I am pretty curious!

11. Loved the beginning of this song! Sounds a bit familiar, but I have no clue!!! I really liked it! I like how it kept the same sound throughout, but his voice did not make it feel like that at all. Nice song!!!

12. Hmm… saxophones? Interesting… makes it sound romantic at the beginning… could not understand much of the lyrics though. I have no clue of who it is, never heard it before! I think…

13. Ok. Funny story. All this happened the day I was feeling crappy because it was an awful day. I was wearing my new boots. This song came on when I was walking back home, and it put a smile on my face… THANK YOU, PARTNER, FOR CHEERING ME UP LIKE THAT! None of my friends could do it… lol. Sometimes all you need is a song. Needless to say, I loved this song. It has a dancey beat! No idea of who it is though, loved his voice!

14. Whistling! Nice piano intro… I like how the drums and the rest of the instruments start playing and coming together. Guitar riff. I really like this song. No clue of who it is, but it is definitively staying! I like his voice, and how the song changes rhythms… :). Amazing ending! And I really enjoyed the lyrics!

15. Almost at the end of this amazing playlist! Voices in the background, and a piano playing! Oh god!!! A music box. This is great. I cannot really understand what he says at the beginning. It sounds like the previous band! It is the previous band!! Oh YEAAAHH. LOVELY! I applaud you, partner, thanks for putting two of the same great band!

16. Last song! Ajajajaja! LOVE THIS. You made me dance in the middle of my kitchen! And in the middle of the halls! And on my way home, and right now while I write this! Jajaja I love this song! But never heard the beginning of it! AMAZING SONG! AWESOME ending to the playlist. It has everything in it! Piano, saxophones, guitars, drums, and a great voice!!!

So, overall, 9/10! I really enjoyed listening to this, and the more i hear it, the more i like it.

Cannot wait to know the tracklist!!! :D

DUDE YEAH. I'm surprised you haven't already, if I'm honest about it.

But whatever, from the ones I didn’t know about my favourites were tracks 4, 6, 9, 19 and 24. Thanks for making it, I had a great time listening to it :D

My problem is that I tend to make too long mixtapes, just be thankful it was shorter than my 2-hour double disc tape last time out and I kinda rushed it due to being in America for part of the time making.

GB cities?

A dime is on it's way

(im no good at reviews)

1. A cool start for the mixtape. Starts off pretty atmospheric and ambient but goes into something a bit rockier. I recognise this, has it been used on an ad or movie or something? it feels familiar (but this might be because i listened to it briefly when i first got the tape) I'm not too sure how I feel about this song, it's just not really my thing...

2. This song sounds older. 80s or maybe 90s. Kind of folk/country-ish at some points. Irish? it's nice, but again not really my thing. It's pretty cheesy...

3. This sounds newer but still pretty traditional. It's pleasant and summery...harmless!

4. Modern british indie kind of thing. Sounds a little like U2, too. I found it pretty dull, sorry.

5. Nice folky song. Not really a fan of their voices though. The trumpet bit was cool, I love trumpets!

6. The sounds really 70's. Reminds me of Led Zepplin. I really like this! I have a soft spot for that era folky rocky stuff...

7. Another 70's sounding song. Not a big fan of this...good instrumentation and all. the drums sound great.

8. A fun halloween song! it's got THAT organ sound. fun fun fun fun

9. Accordion and quite an obvious Beatles influence. I like the chorus thingy, where the vocals get higher/louder

10. Spoken word (about tea?) on a very 60s backing track. Reminds me of some Serge Gainsbourg stuff. This is pretty cool. For the record, I don't actually like tea...

11. long instrumental intro. veeery 80s. I really like this but the 80s sound is kinda putting me off. really great melodies and everything though! Probably my favourite of the tape.

12. pretty piano and string section with electronic bass and kick drum. really nice. Sounds kind of like something Jon Hopkins would do. Gets all epic at the end. samples from the news or something? I take what i said before back, this is my favourite of the tape! a great ending

COOL! thank you very much mixtape maker. I didn't really like a whole lot of it, but who cares, I hadn't heard anything on this before. I appreciate that you've found stuff I've never heard!

I'm interested to know who some of these artists are.

thaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks :nice:

Hello, here's my review. I apologize, I had technical difficulties being a novice of...21st century... and had a crazy week.. Anywho, here are my thoughts of the mixtape:

1. Starts with guitar and drums. Was quite surprised when I heard the rolling of the drums. I feel like I'm on a mission... an exciting song to begin with.

2. Wow, I'm quite speechless. Who is this artist?! I can picture this in a suspense movie ( I swear it's not because Halloween just ended).. I love it!

3. Starts with nice female vocals. It has this echoey atmosphere. Actually I hear two female singers after a minute of the song... Can't wait to hear who they are, love their voices-- and they sing the lyrics super clear..

4. This song has an interesting atmosphere. I like the melody. It sort of has a mysterious feel to it.

5. Sounds like this song is about a girl talking about her ex's new gf... I feel like this girl is going to kill his ex, haha... It has strong instrumental, so of course I love it.

6. Some reason this song of reminds me of the 70's. Easy listening and an uplifting song. I believe this song inspired the album's name “Skyscrapers”. :)

7. Starts with another nice female vocals. Sounds sophisticated and has a jazzy feel.

8. I think this song is slightly different from the previous songs because it feels more contemporary, but still has classical instruments like piano and violin and harp (I think? I don't know my instruments). It has a beeping in the background starting mid way through the song.

9. Starts with piano and drums. To me, it's hard to make out what the singer is saying but I enjoy the instrumental and very chill song; quite a few surprises middle of the song too.

10. I feel like I'm in an aquarium? I don't know what instrument in the background, like a flute? Pretty song. It's quite different compared to the previous songs. For some reason it reminds me of summer near a beach or start of spring, nice..

11. Sorry, I'm not a fan of the vocals. But I think this melody is quite catchy.

12. The sound of this song kind of reminds me of song #10 but more dynamic.

13. Interesting strumming of electric guitar. Not sure, I feel like this song is kind of slow and too repetitive for me... Sorry, not my favorite.

14. Has both male and female vocals; acoustic and piano. Pretty song and it's quite calming.

15. I already like the beginning of this song. I feel like dancing, haha. And did you read my mind? I love the upbeat drums and guitar. Anywho, great choice for the last song of the mixtape, feel like it's just the start of the celebration or “..one big holiday..”. I'll be repeating this song for a while.

This was an excellent mixtape and I loved how the songs flowed very well together. Hard to choose which ones are my favorites but the ones that really stood out for me are song#: 1, 2, 5, 8, and 15. Thank you for the effort you put into making this! I really enjoyed listening and my ears are happy. I'm excited to see who these artists are! :)

What, really? How did you come across them, then? Because Twilight was the reasn I heard of them :surprised:

Umm not quite sure. I think I randomly found one of their songs on Youtube.

Ok lets get this started.

I just wanted to point out that it´s not a female.

Probably my first thread thingy on CPing otherwise I don’t come over here except when the band is on tour.

omg I still feel bad for putting info on my songs but It´s my first time and it was yours too! We already talked before, but I´m super glad that you enjoyed my mixtape and you are so nice for not caring about song info.

You gave a great review! I don´t know how to do this at all o0o0ps but you did it so well

UGH, reading all these reviews makes me want mine even more. :bigcry:

Now for my review, again its my first time and it seems like this isn't the first time for the person who did it for me, since it was so well put together and it even came with a cover and my username. That was such a nice touch! It´s really classy :cheesy:

Track 1:

This is a really nice intro, I was listening to Perfume Genius before and it sounds sorta like him. A very low and beautiful piano piece with maybe a quiet coffee shop in the background? Love it!

Track 2:

I had this song stuck in my head when I was school, I also loved this one! I don´t listen to this kind of music that much, but this is so nice that I could get into the genre more, she has a great voice and the lyrics are very sweet. Really nice guitar too!

Track 3:

A fun song, I also had this song stuck in my head. Loud drums and co0ol synths

Track 4:

This song is so sweet and cute

Track 5:

His voice sounds so familiar, and so does the music. Like I´ve heard it in the radio before? this song is also just a fun, dancy pop rock song. It has some neat synths and like his fans are singing the chorus.

Track 6:

Ooh a rap song! the beat is pretty cool a clean piano and bluesy drums, and I like the message in the lyrics, The guy who sings also sounds familiar, that part was the best though, I´m wondering who he is.

Track 7:

A cool, quiet piano song with vocals that sorta sound like older Tori Amos? Also got this song stuck in my head, and probably singing it walking to school. It sounds sorta sad but then happy or optimistic in "I´m in love with everything". Really digged this song!

Track 8:

The intro is cool, echoey guitars or maybe a harp? and light sprinkle noise I´m not sure what instrument that could be other than a synth maybe or triangle. Then a hard beat like if someone is coming to get me. This is really cool, I think this is an interlude of some sort. I´d like to hear the context of the full album. And in between it has vocals of maybe a rapper? and it also has maybe a little bit of flute. It reminds me of like ancient China in war and I guess this is a fav

Track 9:

I´m seeing a theme here, most of the songs remind me of snow because it´s usually piano or quiet beats and great singers. This being one of them, also really like this song. A very short song.

Track 10:

I think I heard this on the radio and they would repeat it, It´s alright. I think its Red Hot Chili Peppers? Never really liked them that much but they´re o.k.

Track 11:

I really like this song too! its like those bands I make fun of (Keane, Snow Patrol) but its probably not them.

Track 12:

This reminds me of those quiet guitary dreamy songs from underground 80´s bands. But it sounds pretty new, diggin it! Melancholic, echoey and I´m not sure if its female or male vocals.

Track 13:

Sassy :o but its also really dreamy, especially the back vocals that are like ooooeey. But the guitars and percussion are like Gwen Stefani´s song Hollaback girl. Like ooh bitch im his girl and i will hollah at you. It has that kind of attitude.

Track 14:

This sorta sounds like Sufjan Stevens, I really like it! Simple, but very pretty.

Track 15:

A sad but angry love song.. like its all your fault asshole  I like the muffled guitars behind the strings, thought her voice was like any other but it fits very well with the music. Also short.

Track 16:

Ooh the last song! I´m seeing that you really like strings. It´s a really lovely song, sorta reminds me of Two Door Cinema Club. Unless it is :O usually by the percussion and his accent.

I can sorta imagine who it is, but whoever it is, thank you for making this mixtape for me! I thought that it needed just a teency bit of variation but still very lovely and I can´t wait to get the tracklisting to check out these artists.

I got someone else's tape, because the person that got his did not get on here since 15 Oct, so I would not get a tape and the tapesender would not get a review. It's funny, because the tape was made with a girl in mind, but for a guy for real. But because the guy is out, it is now a girl that gets it :wacky:

I just opened it, so I will listen to it a few times and then have the review!!! :awesome:

Hello Itailan Plastic (I'm sorry I don't know your real name), I am your mixtape maker! Now, for the record, when I visited your last.fm I noticed you listened to a lot of stuff I usually don't. Now this was both a blessing and a curse as I could relativity find songs I didn't think you'd have heard before but I felt like some might be so different you wouldn't like them. I glad you found some stuff on the tape you liked! After, this whole exchange is about finding new songs and artists to enjoy.

(im no good at reviews)

It was good! However, I'm not very good at....reviews for reviews I guess this would be?

There's a good chance you may have heard this before. It' "One of These Days" by Pink Floyd. I think it captures both the Rock and Ambient sides of Pink Floyd pretty well. Plus, it seemed like a pretty cool opener.

2. This song sounds older. 80s or maybe 90s. Kind of folk/country-ish at some points. Irish? it's nice, but again not really my thing. It's pretty cheesy...

This is Linger by The Cranberries, released in 1993. It is indeed Irish, the front-woman, Dolores O'Riordan, has what I think is one of the heaviest Irish accents in music. That being said, I can see how you think it was "cheesy". I think it might be something with the accent that sometimes give them that feel. I grew up on them though, so I'm biased towards them.;)

3. This sounds newer but still pretty traditional. It's pleasant and summery...harmless!

This is Jacqueline by The Coral, and yes it does have that summery sound! I've only recently gotten into this band, but this is my favorite song by them so far.

4. Modern british indie kind of thing. Sounds a little like U2, too. I found it pretty dull, sorry.

This Is Fire Escape by Civil Twilight and when I first heard I swore it was U2. The singer sounds a lot like Bono to me....

5. Nice folky song. Not really a fan of their voices though. The trumpet bit was cool, I love trumpets!

This is probably the most "indie" song on the tape. It's by this great folk/indie group called Christians & Lions (sounds like a religious band but it's not). This specific song is called "Bones". When I say they are indie, I meen it in the most literal sense. All there stuff can be downloaded for free through there Bandcamp page.

6. The sounds really 70's. Reminds me of Led Zepplin. I really like this! I have a soft spot for that era folky rocky stuff...

Good ear, because this is Led Zeppelin. The song is called "That's The Way". This is the folky side of Led Zeppelin that I actually sort of prefer to some of there harder music. I also have a soft spot of this sort of song, so I'm glad you liked it!

7. Another 70's sounding song. Not a big fan of this...good instrumentation and all. the drums sound great.

This is "Badge" by Cream, and yeah the drums are great. Ginger Baker is often considered one of the great rock drummers (although he's absolutely nuts ). This song was actually co-written by George Harrison with Eric Clapton, and I think some of that Abbey Road feel comes over in parts of the song.

8. A fun halloween song! it's got THAT organ sound. fun fun fun fun

Yeah, It's that Halloween time of year so I thought this would be good. This is "Creature of The Night" by The Skywalkers (another band where you can download there album for free). The organ is a philicorda. I love the sound of it. This is one of the rare modern "Freakbeat" bands, which was sort of 60's genre of music between garage rock and psychedelic. I thought it was a really fun song and am glad you liked it.

9. Accordion and quite an obvious Beatles influence. I like the chorus thingy, where the vocals get higher/louder

This is The Zombies with "The Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914)". It's apparently a Reed Organ which creates that accordion sound. This is from the album "Odessey and Oracle" (that's not a typo. They spelled it wrong on the cover art) which, if you like The Beatles, would be a good on to check out.

10. Spoken word (about tea?) on a very 60s backing track. Reminds me of some Serge Gainsbourg stuff. This is pretty cool. For the record, I don't actually like tea...

It does sound 60s but it's actually only a few years old. This is "Drink Tea (For The Love of God)" by Kula Shaker. This is one of my favorite songs I've found this year. I've never listened to Serge Gainsbourg, but if his stuff sound's like this maybe I'll have to check him out. I like both Tea and Coffee (the latter which this song seems to have some sort of vendetta against)

11. long instrumental intro. veeery 80s. I really like this but the 80s sound is kinda putting me off. really great melodies and everything though! Probably my favourite of the tape.

This is "In Your Room" by Airiel. I thought it kind of sounded like shoe-gaze Smiths song. It's actually from 2004, and was relased on there EP "Winks & Kisses: Melted", a series of 4 "seasonal" EPs, which I thought was a very creative idea. Worth checking out if you're into that kind of stuff. I'm glad you weren't turned off the the sheer length of this song.

12. pretty piano and string section with electronic bass and kick drum. really nice. Sounds kind of like something Jon Hopkins would do. Gets all epic at the end. samples from the news or something? I take what i said before back, this is my favourite of the tape! a great ending

The is "Isolated System" by Muse. I thought it would be a good album closer. I also like the soundtrack feel. :)

COOL! thank you very much mixtape maker. I didn't really like a whole lot of it, but who cares, I hadn't heard anything on this before. I appreciate that you've found stuff I've never heard!

I'm interested to know who some of these artists are.

thaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks :nice:

I'm happy I could introduce you to some stuff you haven't heard before. That's what I love about the mixtape exchange! Here is the Tracklisting:

1. One Of These Days - Pink Floyd

2. Linger - The Cranberries

3. Jacqueline - The Coral

4. Fire Escape - Civil Twilight

5. Bones - Christians & Lions

6. That's The Way - Led Zeppelin

7. Badge - Cream

8. Creature Of The Night - The Skywalkers

9. The Butcher's Tale (Western Front 1914) - The Zombies

10. Drink Tea (For The Love of God) - Kula Shaker

11. In Your Room - Airiel

12. Isolated System - Muse

My review-review for Destrokk:

Now for my review, again its my first time and it seems like this isn't the first time for the person who did it for me, since it was so well put together and it even came with a cover and my username. That was such a nice touch! It´s really classy :cheesy:

Well it was actually the first time for me too and because I didn't know anything about how the others make theirs I just put some effort into it to not be the laziest person at the end :D

Track 1:

This is a really nice intro, I was listening to Perfume Genius before and it sounds sorta like him. A very low and beautiful piano piece with maybe a quiet coffee shop in the background? Love it!

This one has a funny Coldplay-connections: this track is from a collaboration of King Creosote and Jon Hopkins, and the latter was involved with producing the Viva la Vida album. I didn't want to start directly with a song, so I though this to be a nice introduction.

Track 2:

I had this song stuck in my head when I was school, I also loved this one! I don´t listen to this kind of music that much, but this is so nice that I could get into the genre more, she has a great voice and the lyrics are very sweet. Really nice guitar too!

A really charming singer named Lianne La Havas wrote this. I love her debut record record, but some of the songs are more "soul" and this one is a bit lighter and also more catchy. Most of the album is about love, so if you like that it's definitely worth listening to.

Track 3:

A fun song, I also had this song stuck in my head. Loud drums and co0ol synths

Exactly that! :D

Track 4:

This song is so sweet and cute

It's from a young woman named Lucy Rose who has recorded with Bombay Bicycle Club before. Again, if you like her you should really listen to her debut record "Like I Used To", great album.

Track 5:

His voice sounds so familiar, and so does the music. Like I´ve heard it in the radio before? this song is also just a fun, dancy pop rock song. It has some neat synths and like his fans are singing the chorus.

Wasn't so sure about this one because it is really quite radio-like. But I doubt that you heard it in the radio before, it's a young American band named Youngblood Hawke. Despite having just modest success so far they've already such a Killers-style radio rock. But glad that you like it.

Track 6:

Ooh a rap song! the beat is pretty cool a clean piano and bluesy drums, and I like the message in the lyrics, The guy who sings also sounds familiar, that part was the best though, I´m wondering who he is.

The basis for this track are one of the biggest instrumental bands called The Roots (you can also see them on Jimmy Fallon :D ) The rapper here is named Greg Porn and the singer in the chorus Bilal. I like this sort of hip-hop with live instruments.

Track 7:

A cool, quiet piano song with vocals that sorta sound like older Tori Amos? Also got this song stuck in my head, and probably singing it walking to school. It sounds sorta sad but then happy or optimistic in "I´m in love with everything". Really digged this song!

This mixtape should have been called the RHCP mixtape because I managed to feature them three times, but in disguise :D

This one here is from an EP by their bassist who learned the piano a while ago and he got Patti Smith to sing on this track which makes a really awesome combination and a quite interesting mix of styles. Just be warned, the rest of the EP varies between relaxed instrumentals and experimental electronic things. But if you like it, you can get it for free from his website: http://silverlakeconservatory.com/helen_burns/

To hear the rest of the record is the best possible thing to do. This one is from a guy called DJ Shadow and his debut(!) …Endtroducing which holds the world record for the first album completely made of samples without any original stuff he played. But he has made such a dense and atmospheric record that is really worth hearing, even if it's probably the oldest song here (from the 90s). I just shortened it because the original is about 8 minutes long, and if you hadn't like it then that would have been quite a monstrous thing in the middle to overcome ;)

Track 9:

I´m seeing a theme here, most of the songs remind me of snow because it´s usually piano or quiet beats and great singers. This being one of them, also really like this song. A very short song.

Well thats cool because I tried to choose a theme but ended up with only bad ideas so it does not really have one. This one is a band from Oxford which have just released two songs and could become quite interesting (if they can manage to do something else than the "sad verse - bright chorus" formula).

Track 10:

I think I heard this on the radio and they would repeat it, It´s alright. I think its Red Hot Chili Peppers? Never really liked them that much but they´re o.k.

I again doubt that have you have heard it before (nothing against you :) ) but this song is just a B-side to one of their singles and these things don't normally get played on the radio (else you really must tell which station because that would be really cool to here such rare tracks on the radio :D ).

Track 11:

I really like this song too! its like those bands I make fun of (Keane, Snow Patrol) but its probably not them.

It's similar but only a bit more unknown by a band called The New Union. As with Nr. 5 I justified a radio-track with the fact that the band is a none-radio-band (if that makes sense) :D

Track 12:

This reminds me of those quiet guitary dreamy songs from underground 80´s bands. But it sounds pretty new, diggin it! Melancholic, echoey and I´m not sure if its female or male vocals.

Here we go again with RHCP. It's a band called Dot Hacker which features the new RHCP guitarist as their singer. They are like the side-project when he doesn't to play for 30.000 people but rather 300 :D

And yes, he sings quite high and has a bit girly-voice and a lack of confidence I would say (which is sad) because there are so much effects all the time on his voice and I would prefer him a bit more direct and clear...

Track 13:

Sassy :o but its also really dreamy, especially the back vocals that are like ooooeey. But the guitars and percussion are like Gwen Stefani´s song Hollaback girl. Like ooh bitch im his girl and i will hollah at you. It has that kind of attitude.

It's by a band called Friends (really :D). And I just wanted a contrast to all these Lana Del Rey attention lately because I think she is really romanticizing some kind of 50's women's attitude. So a bit "Sinatra" against the "facebook-era" or whatever :D

Track 14:

This sorta sounds like Sufjan Stevens, I really like it! Simple, but very pretty.

It's by an interesting man named William Fitzsimmons. He looks quite interesting (bald, but with a massive beard )and has studied psychotherapy before he became a musician. Always a bit melancholilic and understated.

Track 15:

A sad but angry love song.. like its all your fault asshole  I like the muffled guitars behind the strings, thought her voice was like any other but it fits very well with the music. Also short.

Just saw in an old thread that this song was also in one of the mixtapes of the last exchange, it's called Youth by Daughter. I just really like the lyrics of this one.

Track 16:

Ooh the last song! I´m seeing that you really like strings. It´s a really lovely song, sorta reminds me of Two Door Cinema Club. Unless it is :O usually by the percussion and his accent.

As far I am aware, there are no string on the last track ;) But Two Door are from Northern Ireland and these guys here from Oxford. A really unknown band (they don't even make their living by playing music) but if you like them it is really worth checking out their videos (via youtube). The lack of a budget is completely irrelevant as they have some really great and creative ideas

I can sorta imagine who it is, but whoever it is, thank you for making this mixtape for me! I thought that it needed just a teency bit of variation but still very lovely and I can´t wait to get the tracklisting to check out these artists.

As this is my first mixtape too your guess probably wasn't correct, but I'm glad you liked it.

It's interesting that you mention variety because normally I am the guy who goes from jazz to house to psychedelic , but here I took a bit more of a safe route. Now I just wish I had included more diverse songs, whatever...

Already excited for the next exchange now :)

^ A track from "Diamond Mine" :awesome: Love that album.

1. I have a feeling this is a Youtuber? :P I'm not sure what to say about this other than that I'm highly amused. :P

2. Some sort of classical thing? I like classical things! Sounds like it should be on some sort of oldschool cartoon haha.

(from here on there isn't really a way of me to tell the order, so you're gonna hve to guess haha)

3. WHETHER YOU'RE A BROTHER OR WHETHER YOU'RE A MOTHER YOU'RE STAYING ALIVE. Started grooving the minute this started mang.

4. One of the few U2 songs I like, I haven't heard this in 5ever woOoOoOo

5. I totally know this song, Sing by MCR haha, I think it's the song I've done the most on Tap Tap Revenge 4 because it's just like 1 or 2 minutes on there :P

6. I feel like this is another Youtuber? This song is nothing special but it's catchy and happy~~

7. ahhh it's kinda movie scorish and kinda post-rocky I am in love with this???

8. Is this the same dude as the guy in 6? It's pretty good, I like this mood of music

9. omg relient k omg???? this just makes me wanna stop listening to this mixtape and go and put on five score xP I was surprised when I didn't hear "IIIIII just wasteeeeed ten seconds of youuuuur liiiiiife" afterwords haha.

10. It sounded like one of the songs from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog for a second haha. Chameleon Circuit? I've never actually listened to them but I've heard about them. I am highly amused by this song, I'm so behind on Doctor Who haha, I got obsessed with it a couple years ago and then one day just kinda stopped cariing

11. I have a feeling all these classicalish songs were supposed to he in between certain songs and stuff? If so sorry that I'm doing it in the wrong order/ xD It almost feels circusy :P

12. The same person as the first one? You seem to like these people haha, it hasn't really caught my attention much but I am swaying back and forth to it in this chair. \:P

13.Geez this is like a sad movie ending credit song I'm also in love with this??/

14. Doctor Who theme song omg im dyyhng??

15. Very twee sounding instrumentals. This person again? Haha, I think you like him. xP

Wow I'm really terrible at this?

I'd probs give this a 6.5 out of 10, I was still interested in hearing more when I got to the last song but the variety could have been a lot better, all in all I enjoyed it~

edit: I'm guessing this is coldlocked?
