Reasons Ghost Stories will be the band's TOP album

Sensing a fair deal of scepticism on CPing today, let's talk about why we're looking forward to GS instead.

Here are my reasons:

- It seems more chill, more intimate. That's a sound that suites CM's voice. I think Oceans really proves that less is more.

- The artwork. It looks amazing! I loved the idea behind MX's art but I think this just looks more neat, and goes so well with the theme.

- It's obviously a very personal album for Chris Martin, and to me that just means the songwriting is better.

My opinion of course.

Purely based on what we have heard so far i have a hunch that Ghost Stories might be one of the more well received albums, critically that is. Or at least better critically reviewed than MX (which i still rather liked). Even if ASFOS is this big single that is geared at a more commercial market, no matter, as i think there will be enough on the record for us to really enjoy and add to the collection of classic Coldplay songs anyway. Even if it isn't well received critically that shouldn't matter either as fans our enjoyment of the music is inherently a personal thing.

My argument is this. I know that a single song doesnt necessarily represent the entire quality of the album. However, if Magic, which is, IMO, the "weakest track" on Ghost Stories so far, is positively received by the critics, i'm sure, Ghost Stories will be a critical success.

Ghost Stories seems to be the most artistic thing the band has ever put out. Even more out-there than Viva la Vida to put it one way, since that album had art written all over it.

I've tasked myself into annotating all the Ghost Stories songs on Rock Genius and, to be fairly honest, the context, themes and lyrics of the album are well thought through and very complex for recent Coldplay!

I agree, Magic doesn't excite me as much as all the other heard tracks so far, I like the sort of r&b influence and its quite catchy but for the laid back track on the album, I prefer Oceans as its more atmospheric but every track has so far has a 'moment' to look forward to, for Magic its 'I wanna fallll...fall soo faaarrrr' :) Ghost Stories is looking to be potentially the best Coldplay album so far imo, Ink and True Love will play as a massive role in that when its released. Ghost Stories is so diversed too, I think it will also stand the test of time!

Commerically, Magic is already Paradise like in terms of its initial impact and it has the potential to explode with one big piece of exposure as its popular with critics so far and is catchy. The pre-orders are already massive and are constantly growing as seen with the Midnight release last week. It won't get the first week sales of previous albums, probably will do more than MX but because of the sales climate, its unrealistic to compare sales to pre 2008. It is very likely it will be in the top 3 selling albums of 2014.

I think ASFoS sounds great and that's based on just a poor quality recording of it. I think we probably just have to accept that each album is going to have a big single with a more commercial sound to it because that's just the way the music business is today. I'm sure the album will be great, a classic Coldplay album. And if it's not, well it's still a Coldplay album!

hahaha wtf

People have been pretty intense about this listening to ASFOS before the release date... I think anyone who cares enough about the band to find the live recording of an unreleased song is a true fan. I did the same hahah

haha listening to ASFOS before release date is intense, but where do get to listen to it from ? haha

You won't find it on Coldplaying, but if you search it on google and narrow the search time to within a day you'd come across it. Careful though because it is a poor recording of it being performed live.

Too bad, The Gold Rush is one of my favourite Coldplay songs ever. Along with A Spell A Rebel Yell and Death Will Never Conquer I think they could have had a solid B-side album (other than Prospekt's March) alongside Viva. Absolutely love the simplistic, acoustic folk sounds and the crazy shoegaze offbeat stuff they got into.
