Kingzilla
Entertainment Weekly gave the album a B, pretty much saying that it was a moody, dark album, but it is a transition into a new album in 2016. I expected the entertainment magazines won't be big fans of the low key stuff. I have a feeling Rolling Stone Magazine will give it a 4 star, NME will give it a 8.0, and overall, probably about a 75 or 78 percent metacritic rating. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20816099,00.html
golfing7861
I wonder why they're pointing to 2016, when most of the rumors are saying there's a follow up in 2015.

reagan_dugan3
Fuck the NY Daily News. That guy didn't even have the correct release date. He clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. Probably hasn't even heard any other Coldplay album

It's really what you think that matters. That said, taking one look at the front page of the nydailynews and I see a news website akin to the The Sun in this country, which, promise me, is the most damning of indictments. Where a paper chooses to run gossip stories ahead of real news events such as those happening in Nigeria at the moment, shows that it is written for a remedial level readership, by remedial level journalists. That ain't a review, just a slanging fest. As such the results of my arse wiping onto my toilet roll could produce a better level of music journalism than this cretin. The fact he had the desperation to publish his email address at the bottom of the review shows he craves a bit of attention. Who knows? Maybe Rolling Stone will email him one day. I'm sure they could do with an extra toilet cleaner in their main offices.

I don't truly care what critics say. I have my belief about the album. If I went by what the critics said about Viva, I'd think it would be an average album. What I do care about is the appreciation of what I consider to be some fine work.

But, but...you started the thread.... Anyways, personal opinion incoming: I think when we say that 'it doesn't matter what critics say as long as you enjoy the album', that's a good thing and a good way to go about things. But this would also mean it doesn't matter if everyone loves the album. The point i'm trying to make is you can't just listen to the good and ignore the bad. The way I go about it is ignore ALL of it. Just something to think about.

Is this even a real/respected news agency? From the looks of their main page: http://www.nydailynews.com/, it seems like a desperate tabloid site. Some of their "headlines" are "SOLANGE'S GREATEST HIT: SEE Beyonce's sis kick, punch Jay Z" "MORE VICTIMS: Another man says Michael Jackson molested him as a child a – they first met filming a 1987 Pepsi commercial" and "Michael Sam's boyfriend Vito Cammisano comes from line of Midwest mobsters." I already said why I do look at critics' ratings, which also is why I made thread - as well to inform everyone of the first review of the album. With that said, I think the way you look about it is something to admire. I personally cannot ignore the good or bad. If I think an album is good, I smile when someone agrees and frown when someone says its bad. If you can block all that, all the power to you. RunForTheHills
"Whatever the opposite of Viagra is, Martin seems to have swallowed it before his creative process began." This is everything that's wrong with journalism today in one sentence. Bottom of the barrel... reminds me of the Sun, actively attempting to whip up controvosy where none exists to increase web traffic. You can be a critic without being overtly mocking, especially when it comes to music... just seems like a cheap tactic and wholly unnecessary in this case. TraceOddity
Quite a few of these songs really do have a Genesis/Gabriel vibe. A couple from VLV/DAAHF did too. Even Chris'. vocals on Midnight and Another's Arms remind me of Gabriel. Ok, I'm way off topic, lol.
Kingzilla
Two new reviews came in, a four star and a 2 and half star. I have a feeling that this is going to be a very split album amongst pretty much everyone.

Bad_Replicant
Fuck the NY Daily News. That guy didn't even have the correct release date. He clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. Probably hasn't even heard any other Coldplay album I don't know if I'd call knowing the exact release date of an album an important factor in a critical analysis. Seriously though, who cares. I didn't read a thing about Mylo Xyloto after it came out, never felt a need to, and I'm sure the relationship I grew to have with that album was probably better for it. I didn't even realize until recently that it wasn't as well-received critically as Viva La Vida had been. Any album that's not AROBTTH is always gonna have a few people saying "THIS REKERD IS TEH SUXORS, BURN IT!!!!". I dig Ghost Stories, and right now that's all I'm concerned with. Be merry!
