Live 2014 review

I think the extras on Live 2014 are particularly good. I watched the film for the first time yesterday and although I'm sure a lot of us have seen the film before, having the unseen extras makes it feel really worth buying.

The extended Magic video is absolutely superb. I can see how the band obviously wanted to make it a short film, rather than a music video, and the song itself really benefits from having that extra few minutes on either side of what we'd already seen. That extra time has allowed us to see that the story is being told by Chris' character in the future. Basically he's a master of magic and he's telling us how that came to be. At the end he asks which one he is - as in, is the character we see in the future the good guy or bad guy? It sort of made me think a little deeper about Magic itself, it's taken on quite a different meaning for me now: I feel like the end (which I won't give away) might even be symbolic of Chris' prediction of his own future. That only makes me love Magic even more! It was also wonderful to see the music video in colour. Everyone is going to love it!

Probably my favourite part on the dvd was the inclusion of Ink live from RAH. The effects and lights look absolutely stunning, and I feel this live version is actually better than the studio recording. As soon as it started my heart jumped into my throat. It's so, *so* achingly beautiful. It will be especially wonderful for the fans who were lucky enough to be there that night! It would be great if we could get a full film of just the RAH show, I think many will agree. From the looks of Ink, it would translate absolutely incredibly to film.

Live 2014 rounds off the Ghost Stories era. It's been so different to any era that's passed. I mean, we've basically had an era start and end in the same year, and the emotion that has come with it has been so much more raw - and obvious - than anything we've had before. It seems fitting to have ended such a different time with a different type of film, more arty than Live 2003 or 2012. It's almost like they wanted to throw in a few extras to make the fans know they haven't forgotten how much we love those live clips! I love how unique it is and the inclusion of so many great extras. I can't wait to see how this takes them into LP7.

Thanks a lot for the preview/review :P ^

To my surprise, I received the Blu-ray through the post this morning! Didn't expect it as I usually get a dispatch message from Livenation beforehand. Dunno if putting Coldplaying in the company area helped! Or i'm guessing other Brits who ordered it from there got it too? :)

I couldn't agree more. The extended magic video is really beautiful and the ending gives it that extra touch it needed.

Oh - I agree with Viva la Coldplay... it would be great to have a dvd of just the Albert Hall concert. I listen to the radio recording of it all the time and it never ceases to take me back there and re-live it all over again - wonderful.

Okay I didn't post on here, but the supplier I ordered from on ebay received stock early so I got mine on Thursday! :D :D :D

I saw myself on the Ink Music Video and, yeah just an awesome DVD in general, the ending if the DVD is so beautiful!

The reason I didn't post is because I hate gloating and I didn't want to upset anyone, but it seems quite a few peeps have got it now so I figured it would be okay :)

The DVD picture is very blocky, it doesn't seem like DVD quality to me. If you're buying the DVD, you'll have to watch it from a distance. As if they want to encourage people to buy the Blu-Ray instead.

An interesting detail though:

the film is an endless loop!

I can't describe how frustrated I am. I was planning to get my blu ray copy in stores because of the outrageously priced coldplay official store but not a single retailer in Ontario shows the blu ray version on their website. I guess i'll have to chance a trip to target or HMV tomorrow and be sad when they don't have it.

Do any canadian coldplayers have insight to this problem? [he asks desperately]

Anyone having trouble syncing the album on their iPhone? I imported the cd,first track 4 wouldn't sync & tried again, track 4 synced and now 5 won't,plus the artwork won't sync although it's there in iTunes? Wonder if there is a fault with the disc?

Can someone from Australia help me please find a store that supplies the DVD/CD pack? Everywhere I see it seems to be either CD/DVD or Bluray but I was hoping for the DVD one. Can anyone help please? Thanks

Sainty have the DVD/CD set. They just come in the normal CD case thing (not in a DVD case). Hope that helps. Good luck!
