Some German online "newspapers" headlining "Chris Martin is in love again " "Lawrence is history", "Chris Martin has a new Paltrow" Seriously, how stupid can one be to believe those things as if they were facts ?? But then again, those websites know what people wanna read and seem to cater for the demands of those kinds of people.

Chris is not such a bad lyricist as people always say. Sure, he did some big blunders (Proof, Another's Arms, and a lot of MX), but nonetheless think of all the lyrics on AROBTTH, X&Y, VLVODAAHF. His lyrics often relate to personal feelings in a very vague way, leaving room to interpretation and for everyone to mirror or find him-/herself in them. This is beautiful. At least I do like them.

Don't Panic must sink like bones sinking like stones ! Because Spies has both better lyrics and creates a deeper atmosphere ! So I vote Don't Panic.

Funny, I can't entirely agree with that assessment. I'm not saying he has become arrogant or less humble. Imho he is now consciously very humble, but nothing compares to the early 2000s when he was so naturally shy in front of the media and tended to be very, very humble and even self-deprecating. I'd say he is a lot more confident now. And too bad he doesn't do these super-awkward dances any more or holds his arm in a weird angle all of a sudden during a live performance. He has become too...normal !

I don't like live performances of VLV that much (except for the MX-era intro, which is great). Because Chris always changes the intonation of the ends of verse lines, making it sound weird and destroying the soaring melody. Does anyone know what I mean ? I don't know how to explain it.

It's a nice motto, and come to think of it. it might as well be straight out of a Coldplay song (I know it isn't, but hey it could !!!)

Nice one ! I like it, but if I may present one word of criticism, the lyrics of the chorus were repeated very often. Maybe you can put in a little variation in wording there ?

Well it's long been known that the LP7 thread regularly turns into a Coldplay General Discussion Thread, so if I want to check for news I check Coldplay's official FB or Twitter account, not this :D About supporting, I can understand both those who support regardless of what they put out and those who don't. I'd place myself in the latter group, I would not buy the new album if it turns out to be crap, I'd rather go back and listen to the older stuff over and over again. But I still like them forever for what they have released in the years 1998-2008, so I'd call myself a fan.

And yes, we have a great variation in tastes and as long as the debates stay polite and civil, I don't see a problem in discussing.

Yeah, what the Adversary said was along the lines I wanted to respond too. It's not about liking. Preferring Trouble doesn't mean I can't like POC, in fact I even do like POC in a way. But I ask you: Which song do you feel is deeper ? If you think of sound arrangements as art, which one is more of an art to you ? Politik or ASFOS ? Clocks or Magic ? Trouble or POC ?

I completely agree with beastwars' and the Adversary's comments. In my opinion it was not pretentious of Chris to despise certain "artists" that enjoy a big commercial success. I would hope for Chris and Coldplay being influenced more by artistic quality than chart success. One of the reasons Coldplay came up with great music on Parachutes and AROBTTH is no doubt their being influenced by Radiohead, who can be argued to be a band with high artistic aspirations. Another point, since VLVODAAHF Coldplay are so big that literally everything they release will achieve commercial success. Imho this is a dangerous predicament, and may have been a reason for their deterioration in artistic quality. They need to have a mindset as in their earlier days where they were hungry to prove the world they can do great music. And great music doesn't measure itself in terms of chart success, but rather in terms of, are the songs I created deep, meaningful, unique, honest, do they have great melodies, do they go where no one else in music history has ever gone too ? Will they be rememembered by future generations ? Don't forget though that whatever Coldplay and Chris have evolved to be, we have 3(-4) albums and a lots of B-sides and EPs with great, deep music that we can always go back to. It's like a treasure chest you can open over and over again and always find the same treasures in it :)

My musical tastes are more in line with 2003 Chris, and I wish he had remained true to that. And I tend to say that yes, with a few exceptions, mainstream pop culture is very commercial, very simplistic, and to a huge extent based on nudity, too. How many of the great pop stars like Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus etc. strip off on a regular basis ? How many rappers have a variety of dancing naked girls in their every video ? One of the things I like about Coldplay is that they make good, sensible music and don't feel the need to promote it through nudity. At least that has remained.

I would prefer voting for Don't Panic, BUT I tactically vote Spies now in an attempt to save Trouble !
