Kaleidoscope EP
Hey I remember you! Wow that was a long time ago... Yeah this EP is something new coming from Coldplay, we don't know much yet but will likely be released sometime around early next year. At least 2 brand new songs are likely from this EP as Coldplay said they were working on new songs and that's new songs with an S. So we'll definitely at least get two. I mean it's such a massive tour, the same songs over and over again wouldn't work so they made some new songs for us to hopefully enjoy sometime soon. We think it might go in more of an alternative direction this time around judging from the Rose Bowl soundcheck a while back that had some new kinda jam going on in there. Then again we though that for AHFOD, but we got a poppier release then some expected. Then again, we have that and the single version of Everglow which is just the piano and Chris Martin pretty much, and it sounds much more stripped down, raw, and live than most of the album's content. We got audio evidence this time to hint that they're going in a new direction, CM is taking interviews more seriously as of late as well, and they're calling the new EP "good Coldplay" and that "if you like Coldplay you'll love this", which might be hinting that the fans of the older content might get a treat and a sign of hope that for them Coldplay might be heading in a more alternative artistic direction moving forward. I'm hoping for this too, as while the last 3 albums were fun we know Coldplay are looking to sound different with each release, Coldplay did three albums broadly speaking that are mainly rock focused, then 2 in between albums, with one having lots of diverse influences, and then the last two had a more pop feel to them than ever before. So who knows what will happen next... I'm hoping for the best.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Wowwwww that's lucky! I bet it was the shortened version too... not what the song needs especially after being wrecked by Stargate. Man the live debut was the best version... Why'd they have to screw everything up on the album :( Still, the message stays. Just not conveyed in as epic a way... Yeah, I'd like for them to take their time on it and make genuine feeling songs with actual diverse influences this time rather than formulaic predictable pop music smashed together in a very quick amount of time. Coldplay are so big now they need not worry about losing a lot of fans and do something unpredictable and more alternative. LOL I went on the Wikipedia page and seen that it was you who undid it, could tell by your name. Like that comment at the end you put too :D Can't believe it's been there that long though... I guess it is a bit believeable since it's rarely visited, but yeah. Glad it's fixed now :P

must identify a Coldplay song
!!! That song is outstanding!! Great find! I discovered it about a year and a half ago. I don't blame you for thinking it was a Coldplay song. It's so beautiful... (but, btw, there are more instruments than just the piano in it)

Any sports you like?
I like hockey best, but there are some others I like like soccer (playing it more than watching it lol), basketball, baseball... etc

Which of these songs is your favourite
Wow, that was quick! All three are good and unique, but I'll pick Hurts - All I Want for Christmas is New Year's Day. Of course the video you put up isn't available where I live so I searched another one up, and it sounds really good... My favorite.

Don't Let It Break Your Heart!
This sounds completely heartbreaking... I really don't know what to say... except that if you need anyone to talk to me and the rest of the Coldplaying community are here for you. I send big hugs your way and I know what it feels like to be in this situation so I know it really sucks. Know that all of us on Coldplaying who are aware of this are with you. I know I'm late and that the time has passed but it may even be worse now so me and the rest of Coldplaying are helping you as best we can. I hope everything turns out okay somehow...

Which of these songs is your favourite
yayyyyyyy Hedley's getting recognition, lol :P Looks like I get 3 new songs to add to my playlists... all very good! Imma go with The Boxer Rebellion - Semi-Automatic. Just this style of music really stands out the most, almost like Coldplay but obviously with their own twist on it.

Kaleidoscope EP
Yeah, I thought that it would be out before the end of this year too as someone said that on here, but oh well we do know it's coming soon! I'd be sad if we only got 1 new song. 2 songs would be okay. 3+ would be grand. I mean, this tour has been going on since forever and I'm sure playing the same old songs from the album over and over again is getting repetitive so this may be why they're doing it, also so we can get something fresh and new too! I don't see how getting a PM style EP would "screw us over". I'm definitely not hoping for one, as that would only screw myself over as that's pretty much guaranteed not happening, but at least a 3-4 or even 5 track EP would be nice. I wonder though, since PM was only released 6 months or so after Viva, or at least that's what I heard from some people in this forum... now they're releasing an EP a full year later+, wouldn't it have made sense for this EP to be longer and the PM shorter? Just my view on it, we all know that's not the case now. Viva era was jam packed with songs. Oh well. But if we did get a PM style ep with 4 completely new tracks, 2 sort of new tracks and 2 alternate versions of tracks that were already fully released on studio, or something like that, that would be EPIC, but I know that's asking for too much, so I'd be content with a 3-4 track EP, and truthfully really grateful and excited. Can't wait to see what they come up with this time around! I've gotta good feeling about this EP as welll, although many said the same thing about AHFOD (despite the title, which I personally have not one problem with) and then got Amazing Day, which a lot of people, even some Oldplayers liked, but some didn't, and then the news came about AOAL and then the pop stars in it, but also other people some would consider more "genuine" and stuff. Was interesting times. And evidently some people were really disappointed, I wasn't and I really enjoyed the album except for the fact that it started really dragging on sometime around Kaleidoscope but got saved by Amazing Day at least for me. But this time around things are legitimately looking up, as that soundcheck from Rose Bowl had that new song or jam or whatever that sounded epic, and the single version of Everglow really got a lot of us excited for Coldplay's future. I know that in the live performances they were gradually heading that way towards that evolution of Everglow but I'm surprised they released a less radio-friendly version of the song still. No doubt that it's still good, but that's what I'm saying, it's better than a "radio mix" or something like that. All in all I'm excited for the future of the band! Oooooooh!... wait, a few months ago? Come on! I'm really falling behind in Coldplay news lol. I don't know a lot of stuff I bet the rest of you do. At least I'm getting caught up lol. Either way it sounds ultra cool, and I can't wait to see what it is either!

ohhhhhh I see. K I'll go check it out Oh no, sounds like it's a really bad time for you! I hope it gets better, it doesn't sound good! Glad that Coldplay is helping you through! Get well soon! If you need anyone to talk to, me and the rest of the Coldplaying community is here for you. If you need to vent this is one of the best places to do so as there is zero people here who would make you feel bad. :)

I am currently listening to....
I got a few selections today: There's a reason why this song's initials include "LiT" :D I know a lot of us have been posting ambient/indie music lately, which is amazing at all. But here I switched it up a bit, a song from my favorite genre of music, that maybe a bit more of us will know. Such a beautiful and heartfelt song... and I think this song is an example of why sometimes simple is the best thing. Oh how I miss the best days of this style of music... RIP :( Some of The Fray's new music. They recently released a compilation album, entitled "Through The Years: The Best Of The Fray", showcasing some of the singles they've released over the last... decade, around there. Along with those songs came these three, as bonus tracks, previously unreleased, and they're definitely new. As we all know Coldplay is coming out with a new EP soon, which will likely feature around 3 songs, just as this new release by The Fray as. I really like these three songs, because if you take a listen to their last full length album it's like the AHFOD of The Fray. More electronic, poppier, and overall they have had around the same situation as Coldplay whereas their older stuff is more melancholic and heartfelt, and their new stuff sounds like music that's directed towards a larger audience, hinted by the use of more poppy and catchy tunes. Yet, these three songs don't feel that way. You can tell that they don't necessarily use overly electronic tones a lot, yet there's still synths in them. It sounds more like indie/alternative rock than ever before. It doesn't feel poppy or commercial at all. It feels genuine and heartfelt, and it's not necessarily a return to their older days, yet it's looking in a new direction for them that appears to feel like commercial, at least judging by these 3 songs. I'd love to hear an album full of songs like this, honestly. If this is legitimately a new direction for the band I'm going to be very happy. I enjoyed their last album as well, but just like with AHFOD and Coldplay not as much as their earlier work. I bring these songs and this band up because, what if Coldplay are stepping back a bit as well? Just like the Fray, what if they're realizing their past few releases may have been a bit poppy and commercial for some fans? What if they're looking in a more artistic and genuine direction moving forward, and what if some of that will show on the new EP? Just some food for thought. The soundcheck that Coldplay did for the Rose Bowl, that one new song they played reminds me of these 3 songs. Along with the single version of Everglow this could be hinting that they're starting to move away from the pop scene and redevelop themselves once more. I think things are looking up for these two bands in that regard, among my favorite artists... P.S. Think any of what I'm saying is false and that The Fray are much poppier and cheaper than I make them out to be? Not convinced they're a band that's noteworthy? I challenge you to listen to "Trust Me", "Say When", "Be Still", "Ungodly Hour", "Happiness", "Fall Away", "Heaven Forbid", "Little House", "Hundred", "Look After You", etc... Not mentioning their at least second biggest hit "How To Save a Life" because I'm pretty sure nearly all of us are a fan of that one if we know it. Every single one of the songs I listed falls under the same type of music that Oldplay content should fall under, at least generally. I swear this band is criminally underrated, by critics and general fans of music alike. It's rare to see praise for this band nowadays. If you're a fan of melancholic alternative rock like Oldplay, I don't think there's any reason to not like at least the first two albums of The Fray, and some of the content of the two albums after. And the 3 songs I put above. Despite what you may hear, The Fray were once a very genuine band extremely reminiscent of Coldplay. To a point they still are. It's hard to believe Coldplay doesn't fall under their official list of influences, and I'm pretty sure even if they don't mention it they still are influenced by Coldplay. The songs I listed are very melancholic heartfelt songs just like Coldplay's earlier work, and I personally am in love with them. Don't like a few, that's okay, but with these songs, you have to at least admit that the music critics made absolutely no sense whatsoever on rating the first two albums at least. I just don't see the hate and what the problem is. It's not "generic, uninspired, boring", etc... the only argument you could legitimately make is that it sounds almost too close to Coldplay. But oh well, we need more Coldplay like music! And even so, that argument fails for present day Fray judging by the new songs, as these new songs sound deeper and more genuine than even present day Coldplay! Sorry about the long P.S. Just had to let this go cause I mean, this band is too looked down upon man.... Okay, okay, rant over. Finally, I've been listening to the live debut of Up&Up recently. For some dumb reason I can't find it on YouTube.. oh well. To be honest, I find this version worlds better than the one on the album. It feels like the album version is both overproduced... AND underproduced at the same time. How?!!? Only some people like Stargate could pull that off.. what I mean by this is, the hand claps in the beginning covering up the piano is completely unnecessary, and some of it continues throughout the song relatively unnecessarily, and it's meant to be a pop song, not bogged down by this overly glossy pop stuff I hear in places. It's used way too often and the song doesn't explode enough for me, they completely destroyed the guitars and watered them down (this is what I mean by watered down, too much of that stuff going on throughout some of the album that unlike MX disallows the music to really explode like it should.) Yet, in the choruses, they manage to completely get rid of the real drum track that SHOULD be there, and really put an underwhelming feel to the whole thing. They also remove the piano in way too many places throughout the track... also, the outro is very unique and ambient like and gives a great feeling but doesn't explode once again, like the live version does. The live version has everything the studion't. and is overall much better. And to be honest, some of the elements of the studio version isn't really that bad, the hand claps have grown on me and give the song a more catchy feeling, but they are WAY too up front sounding in places like the intro, which should at least go more slowly and feel more melancholic before speeding up and becoming catchier. Really, I'm the angriest at the chorus, which feels super underwhelming with the guitar watered down and with the no real drums, there's not enough denseness in there I feel. Anyways, in fact today, I did my best to bring the best of the studio and live versions together and extend the song at the same time. I'm impressed with the result as there is some elements of the studio version there but yet it feels just fine, there's no hint of the studio glossiness in the chorus in my edit either. It's used in other parts... So yeah. There's that. Long post for a thread like this I know, but whatever, that's the way I roll :P

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Looks like we have a Coldplay fan... :D (BTW if anyone is wondering what this is, it's supposed to be the projected starting lineup for the new NHL team, the Vegas Golden Nights. Anyone wanna discuss? Head over here.) Nie, your quote's in red. I ran away, your 2 quotes are in blue. The "X Marks The Spot" related quotes are in gold. These are my reactions. Draco, your quote's in green. karvi22, your quote's in magenta. coldplayisawesome, your quote's in orange. [spoiler=Quotes] I know right! :D BTW, what happened? Even after reading some of the other posts I don't really know what happened... Can someone please explain? Feel ashamed right now for probably being the only one not to know... Wow! 6 times in a row?! There's not albums I'd be doing that with... if it were me a really calm ambient album would be best suited for that, like Jon Hopkins "Opalescent". I think out of all the Coldplay albums though, that one would be the most replayable, seeing as even the album closer flows smoothly into the album opener, and a lot of the songs are nice and calm and stripped down so your energy wouldn't get used up and you wouldn't get too annoyed. However I'm afraid to try, as with anything if you do it too much you start to become desensitized to it, even for calm things like this... the emotion wears off, you don't feel it as much... although it's still undeniably good. This happens to me for a bit after making longer edits of songs, as you may have to replay one section 20 times to make sure everything flows smoothly enough. It actually does take a while to wear off... Around 2 or 3 months ago I made an extended edit of Charlie Brown and it still doesn't sound completely as good as it once was to me. So there are tradeoffs with making music in general. I spent most of my day working on another longer version of a song, this time Up&Up, and I'm so glad I almost finished it, I only started yesterday and I suppose this was the best way to hopefully not get too desensitized to it. Although who really knows.. until I find out. Anyway, back to the album, yeah I quite rarely listen to full albums, the last one I guess only being just 2 nights ago, an 8 bit remix of Radiohead's Kid A. But before that, I listened to Parachutes, then SprayCanSoulGuy's edit of Ghost Stories way back in July. (Or was it the other way around? Think it was the other way around... whatever, you get my point). I couldn't ever see listening to one 6 times in a row... lol. But i guess in your case there was really nothing else fitting.... Two more things: 1, this late in November and that nice of weather? Lucky! Last few days has been a bit cooler here (although not really that chilly) and there's been snow on the ground for a week, not deep really though. And that's what we call "getting lucky" up in Canada. :P (even though the first snowfall was on Oct 1st... lasted for a while, then all melted and we got a short surge of really warm temperatures before gradually cooling off... and finally the real snow came around mid November, just like last year. Excluding this year and last, we usually got our first snowfalls in late Oct/early Nov, and it melted usually by early May/late May... last year, it was mid Nov, and by April 1st everything was gone. Before that, normal at the beginning, but the snow melted around late April. I can't help but think that especially now man made climate change is real... And secondly, I hate it when I can find nothing else really sutiing to the scene I am in to play! A little more than half the time I do just shuffle, but I do look to make sure everything is fitting at least to a degree, and I skip any songs that don't really fit that well. Oh no, what if both happen? :( Hopefully this time around Coldplay makes songs that will also appeal to people like you, like the kind of stuff from that soundcheck. I think things may be starting to finally look up for Coldplay in that sense... with that soundcheck thing and the more acoustic version of Everglow. Who knows? I think people however have gotten high hopes for the past few releases now and each time a lot got disappointed (but obviously the fair share of people enjoyed). Hopefully this time the vast majority will be impressed! (Since there's very few Newplayers on the forum... at least active ones, and the "normal" Coldplayers like me like everything, and are excited for any direction they take, well except complete trash music like trap or something, or really mainstream R&B/pop, lol) [spoiler="X Marks The Spot" Quotes Reactions] Hmm... there we go.. but as the person says below, I still feel like it "misses the mark"... THERE we go! :D :D :D :mx: :mx: :mx: Yayyyyyy :D :D :D Epic :D Lit. Even better! :laugh3: :D LOL I know right! And PoC drew attention too... it's sad that Coldplay is the target of all these things, when in fact they're probably the "nicest" band around, and are only trying to do good. I know right! I also wish I was around during my favorite era. Going to an MX concert... that would have been lit... I guess I should be thankful I'm going in around 10 months time.... WOAH... that actually sounds really short for some reason :P Fair argument. I see your point. Stuff happens like that all the time.. but if it's an accident it's more forgivable than something on purpose really. Especially when it's someone who is probably one of the nicest people ever and would never ever ever in infinity purposefully cause any real harm.

_/ Ongoing Hockey Thread \_
Glad someone knows Coldplay! :D Speaking of this new team, what do you think of their name? The "Vegas Golden Knights"...? And the logo? Personally, it's an alright name for me but it sounds very amateur, like some random Joe Schmoe got picked off of the streets and was asked to name an NHL team. And even then, they'd probably do better knowing that this would be a professional top-level hockey team and that naming it something that sounds awkward or amateur would be just really dumb. Not sure that they had in mind when naming that tons of people would eventually follow them, and that this would be a part of the biggest professional hockey league and would probably get mentiioned a few times. The "Black Knights" would have sounded much cooler, and I even seen someone on Twitter mention that if they got to choose the name they'd go with the "Nevada Silver Seven", which sounds ultra cool and rolls off the tongue very nicely, and is far FAR better than "Golden Knights". As far as I'm concerned if that was the name it would probably be one of my favorite names in the NHL. As for the logo, it's pretty alright as well, although I did see that some other team in another sport I believe had a very similar looking logo, just in 3D and with some words. It looked much better than the Vegas Golden Knights logo. Personally, I can't believe they put a hockey team in some place like Las Vegas. Why not bring back the Quebec team? More Canadian teams please. Not more American teams. They've gone far enough with Florida and LA and stuff like that... literally it makes no sense to put a NHL team there. Just my opinion. So yeah.

The "Relate Everything Back To Coldplay Game"
I just realized... what if something like that was the only thing we'd have ever heard of Hurts Like Heaven... we'd have missed out on like one of the greatest things ever :O Took me a while to think of something... I didn't even know Senegal was something till now. Very good job with this one, was actually challenging! Anyway, their national language appears to be French. Wayyyy over in Canada, an NHL hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens, appear to have French as one of their main languages more than any other team. Whoever runs the music in their arena apparently loves Coldplay, and especially the song Fix You, as a part of the song now plays at the beginning of every home game, not just the home opener like it used to, and it plays a few times throughout some of the games as well. This arena is also known for having a lot of other Coldplay songs played in it. So yeah. :D Pool table
