What is your Favourite Coldplay Song and why?
My favorite song by Coldplay, and ever, will always be Up With The Birds. As far as closers go it's definitely the best ever. It brings tears to my eyes every time. The opening starts off nice and calm. Very unique, and it just sounds so beautiful. Then unpredictably if it was the first time you ever heard it, it blows up into this massive flood of sound, and thus a flood of emotion: sadness, happyness, epicness, just everything right into one. And it ends off perfectly with "Send me up to that wonderful world ...And then I'm up with the birds" There's literally no better way that part could have ended. It reminds me of death, but in a more uplifting way, like that. It makes me cry when I think of others in my life that I love so much that have gone up to that wonderful world and thus "up with the birds". And that's how that part descends into a beautiful minimalist section with strings playing single times and then pausing for a while. They weren't afraid of some silences in that part, and that's good. It's the part where you think over what you just listened to and the emotions that came through it. Then, after a bit, the beautiful guitar part floats in, playing one of the most beautiful yet simple melodies I've ever heard. A few other instruments begin to play as Chris speaks lyrics that are so personal to me and yet again make me tear up. For the first time in the song, the drums kick in as the singer mentions beautiful, hopeful lyrics that are so powerful yet so simple: "A simple plot, but I know one day, good things are coming our way" It's the simple fact. No matter what, things will get better. We should never give up in life, as one day we will be happy. And one day, we will all be sent up "to that wonderful world" where good things are all that exist. We will be back at last with the ones in our life who have passed away, and that day will definitely come for all of us. And we will all be sooooooo happy when it happens. And this song for me really reminds me of that. Then, the very best part made in all of music comes in: the "yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" which is so emotional for me, dropping off along with all of the other instruments into an absolutely beauteous piano finish, which plays the most beautiful sequence of notes that have ever and will ever exist. It makes me cry every time. Of joy, happiness, sadness, everything, There's literally nothing wrong with this song. I'm almost tearing up just thinking about it. I love how it's actually kind of sad at the beginning, then takes a joyous turn through a seamless transition into a beautiful hopeful section. Just, the way the song's put together, they hit it bang on. The production is amazing. The lyrics are amazing. The emotional content and the goosebump factor of this song is sky high. This is what I call "the perfect song". I don't think anything nearly as good will ever be made (there are normal "songs" that can be really good, but this is on a completely different level, it shouldn't even be called a "song" anymore, it's too good for that). If someone somehow manages to make a better song than this then they will get the entire world from me because that is a feat. Something that I once thought would have been impossible. An absolutely gorgeous closer, the best song ever made, to finish off in my opinion the best album ever made. That's how to finish off an album. Well done Coldplay. Rating: Infinite stars out of 5.

Kaleidoscope EP
Here's the problem. Just like before AHFOD came out we were finding tons of potential evidence that AHFOD would bring more than mainstream hits (and still to me it did, but we all know what I mean by that.) Even just the beginning of that song and the artwork got us all really hyped up, especially the ones looking for this band to take a more experimental route... only to get their poppiest release yet. The lead up for this EP is the same thing. But what's not to say it could be different this time around? Sure, I'm going to start to keep my expectations lower, because chances are the same thing will happen, but you never really know...

War of the Coldplay lyrics
Ughhhhh both speak to me... This is difficult.. Even thougjh LiT's lyrics are more "clever", I'm going with Everglow because it speaks to me more. Everglow They say people come, say people go, this particular diamond was extra special. And though you might be gone, and the world may not know still I see you celestial... vs Death And All His Friends No I don't want a battle from beginning to end I don't want a cycle of recycled revenge I don't want to follow death and all of his friends

Which song do you have stuck in your head right now?
^ Proof that Coldplay had "lalala"'s in their songs before MX So if anyone is going to look at Coldplay's last 3 albums and one reason they don't like it is because of "woo hoo"s and "lalala"s "ooaahaoaoah"s, just remember that pre-MX Coldplay did it too. (I'm not saying COL is bad, it's a good song (but not among my favorite Coldplay songs), but I'm just using it as an example that pre MX Coldplay used lalalas and oohoohs in their songs as well. I personally don't see the big deal with it. It just fits in with some songs. I don't know why people wouldn't like it... I mean yes it makes it easier to sing along to and large crowds would like it, but who cares? If it legitimately doesn't sound good to you than that's your legitimate opinion, but if it does and you don't like it only based on the fact that more people would like it that's kind of restraining yourself...) --- Rant over. As for songs in my head right now, surprisingly I don't have a certain one like I usually do. I'm in the transition stage. Some I have thought of recently: -Ending of Baba O'Riley -Cemeteries of London (due to comment above) -GPASUYF

whaaaaat, GPASUYF MX live is amazing, especially the intro and the whole song is so good. Different. It's fun. By no means did they "kill" it (i know this post doesn't truly have a place in this thread but I read it and had to defend it, sorry)

Don't Let It Break Your Heart!
Sorry I'm late, but congratulations!! And happy birthday!! That day went even better then I once thought it would too!! And the best part is I'll get to do it again in a few months!! And it's such a good thing!!! Literally I don't think I'd rather do anything then do that and have such grateful songs like "Amazing Day" and "Miracles" play. It's like the best thing ever to me. I just can't believe that I now know I won't ever have to worry about not being able to do it anymore.. unless some catastrophe happens...

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Still, bands like Blink-182 should be way more popular than some of the awful pop acts out there nowadays... Liked not because I agree, becaus I thought was still funny nonetheless :D Congratulations!! :D (Something like that wouldn't happen to me since I don't have the live version of HLH on, nor do I have the title track seperate from the actual song that follows after on my player, it's just titled "Mylo Xyloto/Hurts Like Heaven" and they're one so I don't have to worry about them playing seperately :D) The closest I ever got to two songs on the same album playing consecutively in correct order on shuffle of all my songs was the normal "Midnight" from Ghost Stories, followed by "Another's Arms", but the extended version from @SprayCanSoulGuy's remake of Ghost Stories :) What!!! They finally played something else from that album other than Fix You!! (and Til Kingdom Come I think was it? There was also another one that got played recently but I think someone made a comment on the forum that those two songs were the only ones played pretty much from that album... Could be wrong. Whatever, still rare :P) It's such a good song too. One of their best sing alongs.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
You know what? After today I realized something: if not for Coldplay taking the poppier route with Stargate I would have never heard of beautiful songs like Miracles and Amazing Day that especially to me this day have really spoken to me. In fact, what I did today felt so good that afterwards I burst in tears to those two songs and some others. Wouldn't be the same especially without those two though. :)

Happy belated birthday! I hope you have amazing day! Because I surely did today... Quite a few of the dreams in my head came true today, and they were perhaps some of the best ones!!!!!! :D

Kaleidoscope EP
I hope you're wrong, but I do find it good to be pessimistic sometimes as well since if things don't go your way you wouldn't be as dissapointed as if you were optimistic, and if things do turn out not how you expected you're even more excited. I am naturally that way :P But with the soundchecks and the single version of Everglow this is one of the rare times where I turn the other way. That being said, you have points with what you're saying about the new songs being built off of the sessions of AHFOD which involved Stargate. But then again, they might have been the thrown away songs because they were too rock focused (they did the same for pop songs too... so who knows... but the evidence we have now suggests that if anything we'll get the more rock based songs if this is the case). And.. um yeah, well it's an EP that follow a major release, of course it's gonna sound similar to the original album at least theme wise, but who knows? They've done something similar to AHFOD in the past (MX) and did it that time a lot better. (I know you won't necessarily agree with that, but oh well). There still will be some variation from the original album and usually the Oldplayers liked the extra content from the last two eras before this one really well. Who's to say there won't be a treat for the Oldplayers this time around? After all, Chris Martin did say that if you like Coldplay, you'll love this. (that could go either way though I guess...)

Isolating vocals?
Yeah, some songs are really dense like that..

That would be pretty cool. Would also love to hear the actual version of HLH sometimes - such a good song! As, in my opinion, pretty much all MX songs are (many people here would shake my head at this comment... IMO it's so underrated :P) Welcome back :D

Isolating vocals?
Hmm I think the one I did try was Hymn For The Weekend... I can see where your coming from since I had the instrumental but still had the leaked version so maybe the quality difference really messed things up... Kinda worked... meh not really lol Ok thanks

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Exactly the same for me. Some of them tend to lean towards the night side as well (Square One, Fix You) and some feel like right after the storm (Hardest Part, Swallowed in the Sea, Til Kingdom Come). Once again, agreed. Tend to think of snow and Ghost Stories being related too. The album's release date makes zero sense whatsoever! Lol, it's kinda cold here but not really... I guess it doesn't affect me much... Had snow on the ground for a couple weeks now here Nice thoughts. You know what, here I'll give my season/scene/whatever for every album of Coldplay: (note that this is in general, each album obviously has its own exceptions) Parachutes: A warm summer/early autumn night A Rush of Blood to the Head: A cloudy autumn day, sometime in the afternoon X&Y: Already talked about, a rainy spring day sometime in the morning, especially with a few of the album's earlier songs (exception Fix You - night), and typically progresses on like a day (exceptions Speed of Sound - night, Low - late evening, Swallowed in the Sea - morning, Twisted Logic feels later in the day than Til Kingdom Come) Viva la Vida or Death And All His Friends: Sometime in the autumn, one of those days where it's cloudy but the sky is painted with a slight yellow because the Sun sort of gets through. Sometime in the afternoon. Mylo Xyloto: Late afternoon, early autumn, sunny day Ghost Stories: A cold winter night A Head Full Of Dreams: Beginning starts in the morning and ends in the evening with Up&Up. Generally progresses on. Mainly sunny and in the spring.

Kaleidoscope EP
I agree with everything. They can't get any bigger and that their contract is about done could mean more diverse future for Coldplay. Im excited. :D Yeah.. but that's way too late for the rest of us hoping for a release in January/February... sorry lol Yes.

Isolating vocals?
I believe I tried this once and it didn't work too well. Someone did a rather amazing job here with "Unconditionally", although the vocal does sound degraded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPlUN7M46dg Mobile Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPlUN7M46dg I have no idea how they did it that well though... If you don't mind telling, which audio editing software do you use?

Kaleidoscope EP
Sorry for the inconvenience everyone, got to do something atm so I don't have time to color code :( The second one sounds a lot like the first one. I like these ones as well, they sound really nice, and original... maybe signaling a new direction for Coldplay? Who knows. Hopefully we get to hear these songs, and not overproduced by Stargate at that! I completely agree with your post. There are a few songs that are weaker on AHFOD too, and I'm not saying that I like all pop music because I certainly don't. Especially with most pop nowadays, it's done much worse overall then pop music from 2012 and before (although I do like "Closer", "This Is What You Came For", and "24K Magic", in really recent song history). Some pop just like you I simply don't like because they do sound extremely cringy, formulaic and typical, just that meh feeling. And even some songs I do like that are kinda like that, I will gladly admit they are by no means artistic in any way. Although, not every song needs that... some songs are simply meant to be catchy and fun. And I like that. Not all of it like that, but some. With MX again I completely agree with you. Combine MX and GS and you get AHFOD; the upbeatness of MX and the electronic tones of GS make typical pop music. Now of course Coldplay put their own special spin on it so it isn't so "typical" as compared to the rest of the mainstream, but it still sounds way more watered down than MX. As I've said many times before AHFOD just doesn't "explode" as much as MX, and IMO if you're gonna make upbeat music make it truly flow and explode, which many modern day pop songs hold back on, yet songs mainly from that 2011/12 pop era didn't, which is another reason out of many why I liked pop music from back then better. To my ears MX isn't just my favorite album by Coldplay, but my favorite ever. There's not one weak song on it and nearly all of them are very strong. There's only two other albums that have this golden quality, even though they're very melancholic in comparison, and those are "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" by our same band and "How To Save A Life" by The Fray (yes, that's also the name of their debut album). Whether happy or sad they have so much emotion within them and I love it. Same! It's one of the best songs in the album for me. Yeah... hopefully it makes the EP! From what I can hear it's pretty good. As someone said before, these tracks' titles have massive Dream Theater influences, lol. This many songs is probably asking a bit much from the band, but we'll see. That would be incredibly weird and interesting though to see a band like Coldplay start to take on a path like DT have... Wow, this is a really sad and pessimistic post :( I honestly think and hope that the truth is much brighter than what you've described here, and that more recently with the soundchecks and acoustic version of "Everglow" that things are getting better. Have you heard that Coldplay and Radiohead are rumoured to headline a replacement festival for "T In The Park"? I honestly do think things are looking up, and yes I do realize that his voice has degraded and he shortens words quite a bit, and I agree with that a bit too much, but he's starting to seem to get more serious now. If he and his band are actually going to headline some festival and Radiohead are going to do it too, that in my eyes is a massively exciting sign that they'll return to more genuine music tastes. Unfortunately though, your post has a decent chance of still becoming true. They are going to change radically most likely once again in their next album and as you said it may definitely not be for the better... I can't imagine a day though where we're going to miss AHFOD because they put out some horrendus hip hop album... True, although MX really ain't that poppy... But your point still stands. We likely won't see a pop oriented sound for their next one.
