  1. ^ The thing that really cracks me up about that is that you look a little bit like him. Not a whole lot, but there's definitely some sort of a similarity.
  2. Oi... I follow playoffs. ........Well, as much as a limited attention span will allow. Not my fault my brain was hardwired for pondering things like intergalactic anthropology and time loops instead of following where a little black bit of rubber goes...
  3. *pats Briggins on the head* :p
  4. ^:laugh3: Yeah I avoid those. But I do think we've traditionally had the moral high ground in terms of turning the other cheek when certain trolls from a certain board *coughateasecough* try to start a serious flame war. Flame wars are dumb.
  5. Genesis of the Daleks was the first old story I ever watched. It was sooo good- supposedly the best ever according to some. At the end when everything comes together I had goosebumps all over. Some heavy stuff there for a kids show. You can watch it here Most of what I've seen has been on Youtube. I'm familiar with digital spy, though I prefer the Scifi channel's forum for lurking- back when the CBC was more cooperative and I avoided the psychic friends network it was a good place to avoid spoilers but still talk.
  6. Yeah, some Radiohead fans are jerks. Such jerks that it took me a long time to listen to their stuff for fear of the fans. (Which was dumb because they're my favorite band now. Wish I hadn't waited so long.) But some Radiohead fans are wonderful. Come join us in the world of music for examples. :D And Radiohead have been wonderful with how they connect to their fans, so I would never mess up their board even if I did have a beef with a member. Besides I like to think we have the moral high ground around here. They may come here for a laugh, but we don't generally go there. (The occasional board crash aside...) But if you're really going to be childish enough to let them get under your skin, why not go pick a fight on the at ease board... they love Coldplay noobs... :sneaky::P
  7. Not perfect but still brilliant. I loved it. :nice:
  8. No, because it's never happened to me. Ever. The one and only time I have ever heard a single on the radio that made me want to find out more about the album/band, was in 2003 when I heard Clocks for the first time. But the album was already out then, and I still downloaded it on Napster (or was it Kazaa) first. I don't like buying an album if I don't know I'm going to like it. And on the rare occasions I do anyway, I always don't like it on first listen and wish I had done some research first just to give my head time to get around it. It always seems anticlimactic to me when I don't go through an album a bit at a time.
  9. I'd never even heard of Doctor Who until I started reading the Hitchhikers books when I was about 18. I saw that Douglas Adams had worked on the show, asked my dad what it was, and all he would tell me was that it was "really weird". :dozey: Found out about it being a scifi time travelling classic and all that later on. Definitely agreed about the new series being much better because of what they're capable of doing. But I've actually been really enjoying catching up on the ancient episodes too. If you think of it as a stage play and don't mind laughing at a lot of the effects, some of the stories and acting are really something. Not always, but sometimes.
  10. That's what bumping is for. :P;)
  11. Yeah, but award shows in particular have a long history of making vocals sound pitchy-er than they actually are because the person mixing them is not used to working with that band or person. And yes they do very often mix the lead singer in too loud like they did tonight. I saw them at the Juno awards a couple of years ago, and Chris's voice sounded one way in person and another way on tv. Even worse, Broken Social Scene were heavenly live at the same show and sounded like complete and total crap on tv because the sound guy wouldn't mix all the different vocals together- or even bring in many of the instruments- you wouldn't even have known Feist was singing and yet she was supposed to have been blended in equally. The next year everyone who blogged about rehersals commented about how Nelly Furtado seems to have perfect pitch live and how great she sounded, and then they even managed to make her sound pitchy that night. So I don't trust award shows in particular to ever get it right. Concert recordings and DVDs are often quite good imho because the person who normally mixes that band is involved- I'm actually a bit of a live bootleg junkie. As for the avatar, thanks, though I can't take credit for it. I forget where I found it, but it is great, isn't it. Two of my favorite things collided. :nice:
  12. Interesting questions I've been thinking about them myself a lot lately. 1. Do you feel identified with your generation whatever yours is? (which one is yours?) Yes, very much, and no at the same time. I'm part of the handful of birth years that fall into the crack between generations X and Y. So I share my contemporaries feelings of confusion and aimlessness. I've grown up identifying with generation X, get to the point of being told I'm gen Y and realizing I have a lot of gen Y traits, and yet like most people my age (26) not feeling like I really belong to either. 2. Do you think your generation has, is on the way to or had had a clear objective of what to do? No, not at all. We sort of just want to do our own things, and hope some greater purpose comes along and smacks us in the head some day. 3. Do you agree with that objective? I don't see an alternative. 4. Do you take part actively on it? What the searching? Sort of. I think things are going to change drastically in the next 10 years to be honest, once all the boomers retire and their stranglehold on culture relaxes a bit. Maybe then things will be a lot clearer. 5. What do you think that you have in common with your generation? Restlessnes, searching, hope and enthusiasm balanced with selfishness and entitlement, a head full of pop culture and no idea what to do with it, the timidity that comes from being part of the bubblewrapped generation, a healthy dose of cynicism, love of personal time rather than money... it goes on. 6. what would you highlight as the most interesting thing of your generation? (common historical event, artistical innovations...). So why would yours will be remembered for. I think our time is yet to come. Sept. 11th is our equivalent of the Kennedy assassination, I think- the first time I'd ever experienced anything BIG and world-changing; the proverbial loss of innocence. I don't think the Y's will ever really be unified, it's too much about finding your own thing. I think any random big things we do come up with have yet to come. 7. what do you think that had influenced more to your generation about the previous one? Sorry, I'm not sure what this one is asking? 8. what do you think that yours will influence on the next generation? We're more embracing of the past than those who went before us. I think that's going to open a lot of doors to the past sooner for the next ones than they were opened for us. 9. who would you say that was, is or will be the leader of your generation? I don't really think we trust leaders like that. Just look at the tabloids, even the gods of the pop world are being torn down these days. Leaders mess up, and we seem to revel in that. 10. do you think that your generation has been, is or will be critic about events and their own behave, acts by themselves or they just will follow some flow? Sorry, I'm not sure about what this means either...
  13. Thanks for the links guys (MTV is an expensive specialty channel here... that isn't even allowed to play music because of licencing rules...) Good performance. I never realised just how much lower Chris was singing until that. :stunned: I liked it. :nice: And neat to see all the guys moving around doing different things like that. Agreed about too much confetti though. If it wasn't perfect I'm going to blame the monkey at the mixing desk for that. There's some rule that awards shows have to make people sound worse on tv than they did in person. I've been to one to see the phenomenon myself- the sound equipment will never capture the way it all sounded there in the room.
  14. Nice. :D I wasn't crazy about them (though they are hilarious at times) until I heard their most recent album. I love that one- it's a nice mix of everything they do. But for the record, there's already a thread here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23276 which is why we have a band index here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28350
  15. Because, you know, suddenly going for the team that's about to win has nothing to do with bandwagons... :p
  16. ^And that's why I love Steven Moffatt. :D She took the name of the bad wolf corporation and scattered it through time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWHj-kw3G3U
  17. Bad Wolf?
  18. I can't believe no one is voting for Don't Panic. I like it now, but I hated it when I first got the album. Took me a couple of years to stop skipping it.
  19. Sparks for the love of Spies and ENL... goodness it's close, though. Coldplay certainly seem to have a long history of frontloading their albums... the weakest songs always end up around the latter third- higher speed, a whisper, dare I say it- the hardest part...
  20. They looked like they were skating in cement the last couple of periods. :( Yeah, I'd say their goose is cooked for this year, anyway.
  21. you type <media> at the beginning and </media> at the end of the url, except use square brackets like this [ ] instead of the pointy ones < >. It should look like this but without spaces: [m e d i a]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whatever[/ m e d i a]
  22. I didn't mind it or notice too much on the last shadow puppets- they blended so well. But when it's a different band with no Alex around, then it takes some getting used to.
  23. Eeee! Bloc Party in Halifax! And I've got my ticket. And no one will go with me because they're all like "well I don't really know who they are" or "I don't know any of their songs" and just think I'm a bit crazy for being excited. Boo. :( edit: Whoa... totally sold out in no time at all, and they had to add a second day. Figures- the Marquee is so itty bitty tiny.
