Unsure about my top 5
I felt like i had to have 5 favourite songs from my absolute favourite band so i chose these: 1. Yellow (favourite song ever) 2. Sparks (favourite romantic/melancholic song ever) 3. Warning Sign (i feel that this song represents everyhing i adore about Coldplay, musically and lyrically) 4. Strawberry Swing (never fails to brighten my mood) 5. I just can't decide between Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven, i like both so much but i think CB might be slightly ahead It's really hard to choose 5 songs out of the dozens of songs that they have because i love all of them (except Twisted Logic) and i've been thinking about adding Ink, i like that song so much but i'm just going to have to let it mature for a while and see how it ages :)

A Sky Full Of Stars - Music Video
I liked the video, specially the last part when they go up in the platform and the crowd starts singing along, that was my favourite part but i also think that the version on the TV looks soooo much better and it would be a better fit with the vibe of the song, i would love to see a street-walking/busking video for Ink for example but not for ASFOS, for starters, they need to have stars in an ASFOS video and Chris should be able to do his dance-y thing...

Ranking the tracks by track number
I don't know if a thread like this one exists already, if it does i know some mod will do something about it swiftly but if it doesn't then i would like to rank the Coldplay songs by track number, this album has got me thinking about that a lot so here's my ranking... Track 1 Always In My Head > Square One > Don't Panic > Life In Technicolor > Politik > MX Track 2 Hurts Like Heaven > In My Place > Shiver > Magic > Cemeteries of London > What If Track 3 Ink > GPASUYF > Lost! > White Shadows > Spies > Paradise Track 4 Sparks > Charlie Brown > True Love > Fix You > The Scientist > 42 (this one was really tricky to pick, they're all great) Track 5 Yellow > UATW > Clocks > Lovers In Japan > Midnight > Talk Track 6 Trouble > Daylight > X&Y > Yes > Another's Arms > MMIX Track 7 Green Eyes > Viva La Vida > Oceans > Parachutes > Speed of Sound > ETIAW Track 8 Warning Sign > A Sky Full Of Stars > High Speed > Violet Hill > Major Minus > A Message Track 9 Strawberry Swing > O > Low > We Never Change > A Whisper > UFO Track 10 AROBTTH > Everything's Not Lost > The Hardest Part > DAAHF > Princess of China Track 11 Amsterdam > Swallowed In The Sea > Life Is For Living > Up In Flames > The Escapist Track 12 Twisted Logic > A Hopeful Transmission Track 13 Til Kingdom Come > Don't Let It Break Your Heart Track 14 Up With The Birds

Why do you love Ghost Stories?
I'll give you 9 reasons for which i REALLY love this album: 1) Always In My Head is a great opener, it takes me back to the AROBTTH era and that guitar just kills me. 2) I find it really confusing that now everyone seems to hate Magic but i actually like it quite a lot, it's such a sweet, mid-tempo song. 3) Ink is my favourite #3 song on their whole discography, i didn't like it at first but now i absolutely adore it, it puts me in a good mood every single time. 4) True Love is (as Will said) the centerpiece of the album, the song that captures the feeling of the whole era perfectly and it's heart-breakingly beautiful. 5) I was as shocked as the next Coldplayer when Midnight was released but i instantly dug it's lyrics and the whole Kid A, Bon Iver-esque thing that they had going on, it remains one of my favourite songs from this era and it's gorgeous live. 6) Another's Arms is probably the song i like the least from the album because i love it musically but those 'late night watching TV' lyrics just don't do it for me, it's still a great song though, i just think that, had it had better lyrics, it had the potential to be an instant Coldplay classic. 7) I love the sonar sound in Oceans and how it blends in seamlessly with the acoustic sounds of the song, it's a lovely, Parachute-y song and i really like the lyrics. 8) I've been an ASFOS apologist from the minute it came out, sure, it's produced by an escandinavian DJ and EDM star but it never stops sounding like Coldplay, there's this recognizable Coldplay sound to it that makes me giddy every single time i listen to it, i can't help but dance every time the song comes on, i love it. 9) O is the best closer they've had since Amsterdam, the lyrics are wonderful and, after we found out in the Zane interview that he poured his heart out in that song, i can't help but feel a little emotional when i listen to it, it really speaks to me, that last 'fly on, ride through' part gets me every time. Those are the reasons why absolutely love this album and this era, despite what the haters say, Coldplay is in top shape IMO and i couldn't be happier :)

Rank the Ghost Stories songs!
My ranking is this and i'm guessing it's kind of final because j've had enough time to let the album sink in and this is what i got: Ink A Sky Full of Stars O Always In My Head Midnight True Love Magic Oceans Ghost Story Another's Arms All Your Friends O (Reprise)

Ink - your review
I have to admit that i had my doubts about Ink upon first listening to it but it was definitely a grower for me, the more i listened to it, the more i fell in love with its catchy riffs and lovely lyrics, now, it's the song i have listened to the most since the streaming became available because it just puts me in such a good mood and has the two things that i look for the most in their songs: good, top-quality music and lyrics that go well with that, i can't help but hum along to that last part because its just so catchy, i seriously think that it could become one of my favourite Coldplay songs.

Lowest rated Coldplay album on Metacritic
VLVODAAHF is the Coldplay album i like the least. I felt like a bad Coldplayer for years for thinking that because almost everyone here loves it so much but i got it off my chest recently, it has two songs that i adore (Life In Technicolor and Strawberry Swing) but the other ones just don't do it for me that much, for example, i haven't listened to Cemeteries of London in ages and i prefer the Prospekt's March version of Lovers in Japan, 42 is a great tune but not one of their best IMO and Viva La Vida was overplayed so badly that i just stopped liking it. That being said, i don't care if GS gets a 15 on Metacritic, i loved it, i think it would be my favourite Coldplay album had they included Ghost Story in it.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Yes, maybe that's exactly the way they wanted them to be because it fits with the whole ghostly theme, i also absolutely loved the songs and the album as a whole but how great would Another's Arms or True Love be with the guitar turned up instead of it being so "shy" sounding right? Also, i totally agree about Ghost Story, it's such a great song :)

Random Coldplay thoughts...
My two random Coldplay thoughts of the day are these: 1) A lot of people on this forum may not like it but i think that ASFOS is the best produced song on the album, other songs have minor producing misfires such as the use of vocoder when there is no need for it or Jonny's guitar being turned annoyingly down in some songs but i think that ASFOS is exactly the song that they wanted it to be. 2) The next two singles should DEFINITELY be Another's Arms and Ink just to showcase the different things and styles that Ghost Stories has to offer.

Ink is gonna be my favourite track!
My thoughts exactly, at first it seemed like the odd song out (even more so than ASFOS) but now i love it so much, it's in my top 3 along with Always In My Head and O.

Ink is gonna be my favourite track!
In some other thread i posted that this was the song i liked the least in the album but it's growing on me a lot, i like it very much now :)

Criticisms with the album?
Now that the initial excitement has cooled down a bit and also now that i've listened to the whole album like 12,673 times i can honestly say that there are only two songs which i don't see myself listening to in 3 years and those two songs are Ink and Another's Arms, i just didn't connect with Ink and i haven't liked Another's Arms ever since the iTunes show, the other 7 songs are really great with my standouts being Always In My Head, True Love, ASFOS, Midnight and O. I didn't like the fact that Jonny's riffs are sort of muted but, besides that, i really liked all of the production choices. Overall, i loved the album and now my album ranking stands as follows: Parachutes AROBTTH Ghost Stories X&Y Viva La Vida MX

Totally off-topic here but i was just listening to Atlas and i'd kinda forgotten that it's such a good song, definitely top 5 of their non-album songs IMO :)

No. I think that Coldplay Mexico's listening party is this friday...

Will Ghost Stories be the bands flop album?
With ASFOS on top of the iTunes charts in more than 60 countries and Magic and Midnight continuing to do well, i highly doubt that the album will flop because it will appeal to people looking for old school Coldplay, it will appeal to EDM fans and also to people who like Coldplay but say that they should "do something different" (i get the feeling that a lot of people think that all old Coldplay songs sound the same)

A Sky Full of Stars charts
As of 7:10 AM in Mexico, ASFOS is #1, Midnight is #17 and Magic is #21 :)

A Sky Full Of Stars!! (Out now - See first post)
I didn't have any trouble watching the BBC video and i'm in Mexico, i don't think that it's restricted to the UK...

A Sky Full Of Stars!! (Out now - See first post)
Now that it's been almost 24 hours since it came out and we've all let it sink in, here's what i think: I FUDGING LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm an old school Coldplay fan (since 2000) but i think that this is them at their most uplifting and beautiful selves, every record has an uplifting song (Yellow, In My Place, Speed of Sound, Viva la Vida, MX had like 3 or 4) and this is Ghost Stories' uplifting, cheery song. I've got such a good feeling about this record because so far it's merging the great things we've always loved about them, the quiet love songs, the heartfelt honest lyrics and now this, their ability to make us smile and to brighten our day with a single song, that's what i think ASFOS does. I honestly don't get the hate, i don't think that anyone said 'oh great, now Coldplay is going to go all string-quartet on us' when Viva la Vida came out so why does this get so much heat? It's just one song...

A Sky Full Of Stars!! (Out now - See first post)
I've been a Coldplay fan since Parachutes came out, my favourite song ever is Yellow and my second favourite from Parachutes is Sparks, just so get a bearing on what my taste in music is like, i've never been one of those 'Coldplay can do no wrong' types, i adore 95% of the stuff they release but, personally, i hate the song Twisted Logic and i havent listened to Cemeteries of London in like 4 years. That being said, i loved A Sky Full of Stars, i think it's them going in an interesting new direction which, yes, sounds like Calvin Harris and a lot of other EDM artists but i think that there is this unique, uplifting Coldplay-ness to it, i really liked it and it has made me more excited for GS than i already was.
- True Love

Another's Arms
I think that he was just poking fun at the whole ASFOS situation...

Ghost Stories, release date: 19 May 2014
I would bet money that that scene of Chris looking up above the pool was for the vignettes that will be shown alongside the concert in the TV special..
