  1. E|---------------------------------------------------------------- B|--------------------------------------------------/11p7-------- G|--11p10p8-6v/10-10-11-11--11p10p8-6----------10v D|---------------------------------------------------------------- A|---------------------------------------------------------------- E|---------------------------------------------------------------- The first time it begins with 11p8 instead of 11p10p8. There is some slight variation in bars between whether or not he plays the 10 first then hammers onto the 11 or the way I tabbed it with the 10 first pull off, I'm not going to figure them out. The part you tabbed (I think meaning the chorus? It's just easier to play this way): E|--------------------------------------------------------------- B|------------------------11v----------------------------------- G|--11-11-11-11-13--------11-11-11-11-13-11-----11- D|-|_______|---------------|_______|-------------13----- A|----triplet----------------------triplet------------------------ E|----------------------------------------------------------------
  2. Swallowed in the sea is very fun to play on an acoustic and Posrcards from Far Away is a treat on piano.
  3. Sorry, that tuning should read EADGAD with the bottom two tuned a tone down. I've also managed to figure out a rough sketch of the first piano part up until the strings kick in. Chords D | D | G | Em | C#m6 | D Melody - | F# E D | E F# G | F# G A E| C# C# D E D | F# Split into bars to help sort out the melody part: Birds they sang| Break of day| Start again| I hear them say | (Its so) hard to just walk a |way... Like I said its just a rough idea of what to play, by no means perfect. If I feel like transcribing it instead of playing it anytime soon, I'll put the proper effort in and make it more intelligible. Any help with the middle string part would be great.
  4. I think EMI probably had something to do with the single choices, and maybe even the production on them. I do consent to a degree that the singles are weak, ETIAW aside, but the message all along has been that the new material is album-oriented. It is something very different for Coldplay if you ask me, to have an album that isn't built around strong singles. While its easy for them to give in to label execs who literally need the band to have hit singles, I admire the band's credibility in trying to satisfy themselves artistically while in essence doing their employers a favor. Especially when they are in a position where they can tell EMI to fuck off and not think twice about it.
  5. Er, I think the reason why TKOL wasn't quite as well received as most Radiohead albums post-Kid A is that it was maybe a bit safe, or lacking in innovation and variety for the band. There was no uncharted territory on it for Radiohead. To address the point before, innovation and variety do however equate to a product that warrants honest and serious critical thought, which this review rather obviously lacks. If you can put your own reservations aside, it is wonderfully apparent that this review is an example of piss-poor journalism. Also, I would argue that any review of less than 5/10 (or its semantic equivalent) comes from a place that is less than earnest. MX, for Coldplay, represents an altogether new sound and style which is commendable, regardless of whether or not its your cup of tea. Their aim of creating something that they enjoyed while maintaining a degree of commercial viability is without doubt reached. While its unfortunate that some listeners have had allergic reactions to some of its methodology, go read Pitchfork (I do sometimes, though I find it less fulfilling than most pop music). BTW, for all the new Coldplay haters, check out Life in Film. They're a good new substitute for Parachutes era CP.
  6. Here's the second part. EADGAB tuning All bar chords with the bottom two strings open as Chris often plays. Verse D Bm D Bm G Chorus Em F#m x4 G F#m x4 The little riff at the start: D|-0h2p0-------4-0h2p0------0-| A|----------0-0-------------0-0---|
  7. Disappointment: That intro to UATW isn't really necessary or particularly attractive, is it? Surprise: My favorite song is one of the instrumentals.
  8. AROBTTH Parachutes MX VLV X&Y But I love and appreciate all of them, seriously what a great band.
  9. Definitely hear it in multiple places on the album and I love it!
  10. Hmmm... 1. Don't Let it Break Your Heart - So immediate, the mix makes this song. Chris's voice being pushed into the dense center allows for everyone to shine. 2. Up With The Birds - I can't pick out the Leonard Cohen sample yet, but I can feel it. 3. U.F.O. - There are flashes of Parachutes on this album if you're willing to listen for them, this song contains the brightest one. 4. Mylo Xyloto - Like waking up on a bright autumn day and taking a deep breath before diving in. 5. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - Forget your politik, samples or not, this is a brilliantly written song. 6. Us Against the World - Coldplay? Soulful? No. Couldn't be. 7. Charlie Brown - Dense like DLIBYH, but less tuneful. Likely to be a minor chart hit but a major player on your most played iTunes list. 8. Up in Flames - Bass drum is a little outlandish and strays too far into the realm of certain less than earnest musical genres. Nonetheless, the song is held to the ground by Coldplay's well-established honest charms. 9. Hurts Like Heaven - An adrenaline rush, maybe some of Chris's best lyrics. 10. A Hopeful Transmission - That beat is like nothing we've heard from Coldplay, so energetic, I love it. Perfectly leads into DLIBYH 11. M.M.I.X. - Stirring, Where the Streets Have No Name has its modern counterpart. 12. Paradise - Feels too familiar, perhaps even lacking an extra verse to dampen the mantra like drive. 13. Princess of China - Not a disappointment as many expected (myself half included). 14. Major Minus - It just doesn't fit for me within the context of the album. Too raw-edged, not a hint of the sweetness that is so prevalent throughout the album.
  11. MX is so much better studio. In fact I've only just finished HLH, and I'm thinking that's even better studio. Come on, that outro! Can't hear that in the live version.
  12. If Rihanna was turned down in the mix at some points, and Chris also sang in the chorus part, this song would be really quite awesome. That being said, it's a well-crafted piece of music, and I honestly and unexpectedly don't half mind Rihanna's presence on it.
  13. Politik Shiver God Put a Smile Upon Your Face Trouble In My Place A Rush of Blood to the Head Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love Viva la Vida Speed of Sound Clocks Life is for Living (encore) Yellow Us Against the World Til Kingdom Come Postcards from Far Away Crests of Waves Fix You Amsterdam The Scientist
  14. The first part of this song may be the most coherent, lucid set of lyrics Chris has written. Even some of his harshest critics should be able to connect with what is said. Really brilliant, surprising even, the imagery Chris creates.
  15. Studio. I didn't really care for it live, but now that I've heard a proper version it's growing on me quite fast. The scream-like noises during the solo complete the song. Glad the new sound is less Chris-centric.
  16. Seriously, the one weekend I'll be in London they are playing 20 minutes from my house? At least PNC Arts Center sucks, so I won't be missing out on too much.
  17. That looks right to me, I'm trying to work out the chords on an acoustic, will post when I get it. The tuning is being a pain.
  18. Please do make it your sig if you wish. I am no apologist, the song isn't the best, but it's still not terrible if you approach it with an open mind. All I am asking for is a bit of decorum, this forum used to be all warm and fuzzy. There is nothing wrong with expressing a dissenting opinion, however, the manner in which most of the people who don't like the song are acting is positively disgraceful. Insulting and degrading one another over one song is shameful. I know I sound like someone's mother but I'm honestly more disappointed in this forum than I am with the song.
  19. Unfortunately, the vast majority aren't as coherent as you. Forgive me I've been drinking, but I can't remember this website featuring entire threads dedicated to insulting others for their beliefs. Surely, no one dislikes it purely to insult others, however, their continued presence on this forum is a testament to the fact that many just feel like lashing out because they somehow feel let down. I'm just asking that they fuck off to another venue an not ruin the forum for the rest of us.
  20. There's a difference between expressing one's opinion and doing so to intentionally to piss off others. Google 'schadenfreude' i.e. the concept behind trolling.
  21. Some people need to learn a little tact and keep their opinion to themselves. But then again this is the internet, and we shouldn't expect common decency. Thank fuck for threads like these! Our parade will go on in spite of the rain.
  22. I hope it does, A Whisper was awesome. Hard as hell to play live though.
