ah k fair enough then. i still absolutely love parachutes and rush of blood. two of my favourite albums. i listen to the VLV demos now and then. as well as some of the bootlegs i have from 02-03. it still sounds wonderful to my ears.

don't you guys like Parachutes and Rush of Blood either? i don't get this whole "oh they've made a few shit songs i dont ever want to listen to them again" mentality.

people need to realise that coldplay are competing in a completely different league now. they're no longer going up against the likes of elbow, arctic monkeys, foals or death cab for cutie. they've long left that world of alternative music acts. their competition now is beyonce, lady gaga, fallout boy, nickelback, kings of leon, black eyed peas and the other chart toppers going around. but the thing is, even when i put the song in that context. it still sounds pretty terrible.

just had a sneak peak at the Waterfall sub-forum and the equivalent to this thread in there. half of the 400 who voted gave it 8 or more. which goes to show how safe coldplay's popularity really is. they've locked in such a massive loyal fanbase they could release utter tripe for the rest of their career and get away with it. i love the contrast between this poll and that on the main forum. basically if coldplay is the only band you listen to then you probably love it. if you listen to any other music then you almost certainly hate it.

i keep getting to track 14 or 15 and stopping. the music leaves no impact on you whatsoever. the first half a dozen tracks sound pretty decent but nothing special.

i really hope they are able to get 2 or 3 big singles out of this "compilation" otherwise their live show will really struggle. you will end up having half the crowd being familiar with one set of songs and not the rest and the other half knowing another set but not the one the rest now.......or whatever.....you know what i mean. that will have a really negative impact on the atmosphere at their shows.

my favourite music reviewer gave Suck It and See 4 stars :D good to see that the band is getting back on side with critics after a bit of a lull with Humbug i'll see if i can find it online.

This album has grown on me so much in the past month. It is a genuinely excellent rock record!!!

wow the packaging is soooo incredibly simple! the lyric would have to be one of the simplest i have ever seen haha. the liner notes are even more so. most albums you have a page long list of everyone who worked on it. there are only 9 names acknowledged with the technical side of making it. after a good 10 or so listens to the album this is quite easily their second best effort. the music and flow reflects a more self assured sounding band than what we heard on Humbug and it is more interesting to listen to than FWN ever was. here's a little look at their current american tour.

yeah totally agreed on that. good on them for being a little different. just reading an article on The Guardian about it and even the band isn't sure how this will work and if they'll be able to manage it properly. as much as it shows a lack of self confidence it does seem like a lot of fun for their more passionate fans. and thats really what this band has always been about. i'm up to about track 10 now and i'm enjoying the general vibe of it. it's not so in your face as their previous work. you can tell they have mellowed out a bit since we last heard from them but that has kinda resulted in some fairly middle of the road tracks. nevertheless i'm stuck here for the next 5 days with no where to go. so i will have plenty of time give these 20 songs a few spins each.

but that's their job!! a good band should be able to tell which songs should make the album and which shouldn't. thats really what separates the best from the rest. but at the end of the day. the kaiser chiefs aren't exactly an album album band. so i won't be judging them on this. but with 20 songs floating around i'm not sure which ones i should listen to so i have some familiarity with them when i see them live in 2 months.

it is very clear they are trying to make music that will sound good in football stadiums and arenas. and i think this will sound good in a massive venue.

on a more serious note. this gimmick shows the bands complete lack of confidence in their own music. it's almost like submitting an essay to your teacher but saying "umm ok i wrote 4 different ones. could you maybe pick the best one and keep that"
