this is a load of rubbish, there wont be a new album next year. ep seems much more likely. i just want new coldplay songs. but album is definitely out of the question.

i only really love two killers song, them being there two most popular lol (mr brightside and all these things that ive done). i havent exactly explored their catalogue, so maybe i'll find some more i like. those two songs are just amazing though, like im actually unable to describe their awesomeness lol.

brilliant band who i hope come to usa before they get to big lol. theyre pretty amazing, and im just waiting for the world to take notice...maybe the next album.

singles are a relatively mixed bag for me. i usually have my songs i think should be put out, but ive sort of learned to ubstain from that desire because i know usually it only leads to disappointment. if cemeteries was released as a single it would go nowhere because the public is generally idiotic. lost! and lovers of japan are good songs, and i dont mind them being thrown into the single basket. its something you really had to expect. they're radio friendly. neither will do what vlv has done though - someone said that, but it wont happen. the best part of singles is you might occasionally here them on the radio (i never hear coldplay on the radio where i live for w/e reason), and most importantly you will likely get a video. due to my lack of enthusiam for coldplay videos because they dont like doing great ones, im not sure that even matters anymore lol. b-sides would be fantastic, but if they're putting out an EP in march, they probably won't give them to us.... so all in all, this isnt too big of a deal.

ive been listening to falling down, and while i dont think its radio friendly in all honesty (which might just be my brains way of saying i dont like it) i dont think its really experimental. i doubt sincerely that oasis will actually go experimental. i think bands really overthink things when they say that. coldplay said it, and while vlv was a change of pace, its not like some big whirlwind shift lol. i think the only bands i really believe in actually experimenting is u2 and radiohead (some may ask why u2, but i know you guys all know about what happened in the 90s), and im not sure even then id completely believe it. for radiohead what could be experimental now lol. personally i think its a fad to say stuff like this, but i think its gonna be the same oasis. for me that means some brilliant songs, and some songs i just wonder where their heads were at.

Haha well my main reason behind wanting anything as a single is the fact that a video would likely accompany it. And while I think Strawberry Swing would be absolutely huge if it was released in the summer, I could be wrong. But to see a video of SS would be so amazing. Like lots of bright colors and obviously the idea of Strawberry Swing is very colorful itself. It's the first time I've really heard a song and thought summer and seen summer when I hear it, completely without it having a direct connection to summer (as in you listen to songs in summer when you first hear them, then they feel like summer songs - while this song just felt like summer regardless). This song is like a breathe of fresh air, and people need to at least be given the chance to know about it imo.

i've always thought it very clear that as someone whose music is very personal, and someone who is shy of revealing such personal details, his defenses have always been quite comic and entertaining. its better than being a moody jerk like some singers might be. i dont have any doubt he's writing about personal stuff. i mean as he's obviously close to the guys in the bands maybe a song or two could in some way have to do with them, but i've yet to hear anything like that.

lol yeah air traffic has certainly peaked my interest, like all bands, you gotta wait for the sophomore effort to see if they're the real thing. shooting star and no more running away are my favorites as well.

The mistake people make is to think Coldplay haven't been making music as long as The Beatles did. The Beatles were a band for about as long as Coldplay, and look at what they did. No one can be The Beatles. I mean it's really just not possible. It's got nothing to do with how good they are or how popular. Until we get some new kind of music, there are no new beatles. I mean, when The Beatles got turned down by some record companies who said something to the effect of "Guitars are dead". The Beatles revolutionized the music world and industry. Coldplay can't do that because they didn't come first. There would be no Coldplay without The Beatles, so you can't say Coldplay are the next Beatles.

I got there album a few months back. They're pretty fucking awesome. Definitely going to be big. They're definitely going with the Coldplay template, but there's just enough of a swagger there that they dont come off completely Coldplay-ish in my estimation. But yeah, people on this thread better watch out for Air Traffic, I don't know how many records it'll take for them to be huge, but it's gonna happen.

Signal Fire is an awesome song. I heard it when I saw Spiderman 3 at the end credits. I knew immediately who it was, and went home to download it lol. GREAT song.

there cannot be a beatles of any generation in the genre of rock music. there would have to be a major shift in a musical style for their to be a new beatles, and if that was the case, i'm not sure anyone would consider the person/band the beatles because it was a different genre. i think of it like this, and im not being religious lol, i just think of it like this now that this topic is brought forward the beatles are like god, they did it all, no one can be like god (and this is not me being religious, if you are or arent dont matter, this is strictly comparison that i think everyone will get my point) bands like coldplay, u2, radiohead, rem, etc are just like great people in comparison to a god. they dont have the influence of god, but in basic structure theyre pretty damn good. no matter how innovative anyone is, the beatles created a genre. they are the beatles for fucks sake! lol and i like more coldplay songs than beatles songs, but coldplay have not created a genre, if anything they havent really created any extension at all. they havent pushed the boundries. theyre fucking brilliant no doubt, dont get me wrong. but they cannot be the beatles. no matter how great a band is, no ones the beatles. theres got to be a new religion (as in genre folks) for their too be a new beatles.

See I agree with most of your points. I too am not sure why some people are so vehemently opposed to the song. Stuff takes time to sink in, and also one song doesn't indicate all the other. Violet Hill certainly wasn't indicative of Viva la Vida, was it? I do have to somewhat break of from you in some respects though. I've never been the type of person who gives much credence to the tortured artist. Say what you want about the importance of critical acclaim, but even the best bands and the one's most critically acclaimed once got panned - and likely pretty bad too (Radiohead anyone). So the idea that Keane need to become a band like that is retarded, because that is what your kind of suggesting in your having them not sell a lot of music - ala Radiohead in most cases (and I mean comparing Radiohead to bigger bands, because obviously they sell a lot). I agree music that is challenging is often rewarding, but Coldplay are a great band without having to be that pretentious we're-doing-this-because-of-us thing. Calling Coldplay background music undermines how interesting there music has become. To call it that implies a musical snobbery. Background music is devoid of emotion and soul - that's not Coldplay, and it never will be.

Well to that I have to say...the band have been interviewed as saying they aren't sure why everyone thinks Violet Hill is a single because they've never directly said that. At least thats what they said in an interview a little before the album came out. So that means I've got hope for another besides the ones we know are likely to be singles. I may be wrong but was The Hardest Part intended to be a single, because even though it was, I wasn't sure at the outset it was supposed to be. Actually maybe having a video for it doesn't imply its a single, but I thought it did although I never heard it on the radio.
