Okay so I know theres already been many threads about this but here we go… So I started listening to Coldplay prior to the release of AROBTTH. I had just got into rock music so I didn’t have any high expectation or intelligible understanding of what good music is, but I was instantly blown away. I don’t believe theres a comprehensive logic behind why people fall in love with certain music after the first listen but I guess it was their sheer brilliance. I think we all know AROBTTH and Parachutes were by far their better albums, opinions divided on which one is the best. When VLV arrived I wasn’t sure about the direction they were taking, moving from black and white to colour as Chris explained. The album was clearly made to please the more mainstream audience. In fact VLV the song brought a huge number of new fans with it. And surely the album was a success; commercially and critically. Of course theres no denying it was a great album, but not a good Coldplay album. The thing that annoyed me the most is that before VLV they were anti hegemonic, exactly opposed to mainstream music. The cumulative effect of viva la vida played on the radio on a regular basis was destructive. Anyway so as if VLV hadn’t already lowered my expectations with some disappointment, now we have ETIAW. Now you might think I’m a bit strange but the song is brilliant; in the same way Rihana’s what’s my name is. You know; catchy, exciting and uplifting yet very cheesy and corny. So the moment you remember this is Coldplay you think MY GOD WTF IS THIS!:dozey: I’m disappointed to say the least. Its irritating for the old fans because once again we have no idea where they’re taking us and scared shitless that they might not only fail, but lose a considerable number of fans’ interest. So......tell me what you think

Well Coldplay has been a part of my life for 8 years! Theres not a day when i don't listen to them or don't think about their music. My obsession is pretty obvious and when you integrate something into your life, its very hard to just forget if its taken away from you. I guess it would feel like letting go of someone very close to you :confused: I'd be depressed for a loooooooong time i reckon :\

i suppose its personal preference. i'd rather experience a real event to be fair! lets be honest, most of a man's budget should be spent on united and derby days rather than going to a few live shows every year!:smug:

All I know is Coldplay have a looooong way to go to make their shows as spectacular and brilliant as U2. a U2 concert is an “experience”. And a very unique one. I mean I love Coldplay way more than U2 but for me their live shows are kinda….meh:\. Great live music but nothing else to make it worth the 60 quid you’ve spent. You would expect more from a band who claim to be the world's best at the moment.

I think you're just talking nonsense pal. Everyone’s got their own individual opinion on Coldplay and whether to be critical or not on their lyrics is their choice, and not yours my friend. And please don’t talk about real fans! I’ve had the blessing to listen to their music before the parachute days! I know them inside out and only cuz I don’t post here everyday of the week highlights my busy lifestyle, not my laziness or lack of interest in the band. And let me tell you, I enjoy every line of every lyric of every one of their songs and find them meaningful and inspiring. Now does that not make me a “real fan”?! Bollocks!

I think some of the comments on here about the BBC are completely irrelevant, unreasonable and fairly stupid! What is with all this bashing and slagging the BBC for no reason? The corporation is a triumph of success and quality and a great national institution in my opinion! If you actually watch British television on a regular basis and have any form of interest in the media here then surely you cannot brand the BBC “corrupt cocaine-addled”!! Jesus some of you are aggressive!! Without the BBC and their brilliant quality service you’d be left watching crappy big brother and im in a jungle or whatever its called! I mean come on! Top Gear? Spooks? East enders? David Attenborough? The list would go on and on and on if I wanted to name all the brilliant stuff they come up with! At least try to gather more research about the subject!:dozey:

I used to be obsessed with U2 up until 4/5 years ago. but since realizing how truly amazing Coldplay are, and how repetitive and hugely overrated U2 are, I’ve my lost interest in them and couldnt really give a damn about what they do anymore! Im not denying the fact that U2 are fantastic, but any band have their lifespan. 25 years is surely more than long enough and don’t forget, great bands should always fade away when they are at their peak best. look at Pink Floyd and The Beatles. the same goes for Coldplay. I definitely believe they should quit in 9 or 10 years, as we don’t know for sure how productive and influential they could be after that. if U2 had quit after How to dismantle....... , everyone would have remembered them as one of, if not the best bands ever. of course people will still remember them, regardless of when they quit, but I know for a fact they’re not loved as much anymore. people have started to get sick of 'em and actually hate them. i also believe Coldplay are in no way similar to U2. that’s just what the evil journalists feed music fans in their reign of hatred and jealousy! :evil3::whip:

exactly my thoughts mate. saying people with under 50 posts don't deserve to hear the demos is totally absurd. even people who aint in this forum have the right to hear them. I know many hardcore coldplay fans who never come on coldplaying. personally I simply dont have the time to come on here everyday, let alone every second, like some people do here!! I’ve got college, SU, work, LIFE!! but that doesn't make me a lesser fan compared to anybody else here. I actually find what robmat said quite offensive. who is he to be so selective of who has the right to hear it and who doesn't. having unreleased demos in your collection doesn't make you superior in any way. now that I think of it I’d rather not knew about these demos. we dont know how Chris feels about this. we’re not even sure if what we’re doin here is legal. hopefully it wont turn into a huge scandal, cuz at the end of the day, I promise you all the demos will be all over the place in two or three months. you cant control everyones actions and their consequences. someone will probaly put them on youtube soon!
