Ah ! I love your analysis and it had never occurred to me to look at MX in that way but it makes perfect sense. They were quite free on MX but not free enough to go "all the way" perhaps? Which they now did with AHFOD. Interestingly they have managed to keep the classic Coldplay (we hear it in Birds, army of one, everglow) but it now blends with the rest of the album as it should. Guess thats also what Chris means when he says this album is where they were aiming for all along.

I am kinda wondering if there are any Lana Del Rey fans amongst the Coldplayers? They are arguably diametrically opposite artists in terms of the music they create. Lana being depicted as downright depressing, while Coldplay as utterly optimistic! These two are probably my absolute favourite artists on equal level (add Noel as third hehe), so I wonder if I am the only one crazy enough to enjoy both? Chime in if you like Lana :)

Kinda reminds me the reaction Chris had when Lowe played Fly On during their interview back then. How he got so teary eyed...I dont think he´s ever gonna play that song again tbh (I hope I am wrong). Very lucky the few people who got to see them live during the GS dates!

Random thought: I would love love love to listen to a Coldplay album from start to finish with a fellow Coldplayer. I mean a lot of my friends like Coldplay but not nerdily like me. I always wanted to share this with someone who pays attention to every little detail :) It´d be cool if we had like a chat where we agree a certain day to meet and listen to a certain album and just fire away with the comments as we listen :)

Hehe Yes her new pop sound has not gone down well with some country fans. Sometimes I wonder if its not a case of being a bit too snobbish about pop? I mean if a pop artist goes into country or jazz its deemed an artistic move, if its from country or rock to pop then its a sell out LOL Pop music tends to be yes the most popular obviously but I do believe it has artistic value in itself when done well, like all and on par with other genres.

I love Chinese Sleep Chant too. The first time I heard it I thought wtf is this? It cant be Coldplay! haha same way I felt about Midnight. I love how they pull a 180 degrees on me like that :) I love surprises. They are hardly known for Viva only. Clocks, Yellow, Paradise are arguably in the same league. The truth is that the boys know how to make a memorable song and now they have a whole setlist full of them! hehe :)

I agree! I am totally fine with people saying this or that album of theirs is not good or not to their liking, but its undeniable that they are true sincere artists who put 150% in all they do and it would be unfair to say otherwise imo. Btw I find "Shake it off" infectious *LOL* I had to get some shit off me back when that song came out and it just was cathartic for me to dance to hehe :)

Yeah if 300+ plays did not do it I dont think any more will make a difference hehe I actually for the most part stopped listening to GS when AHFOD came out. I absolutely adore GS, but I know that whenever I decide to play it its because I am melancholic so I am conflicted there: I like it because its so cathartic to help with certain emotions, but i dont like to feel those certain emotions hehe

After the longest live tour ever which they will shortly embark upon I predict at least a 2 year hiatus. Then I predict a total surprise comeback! I dont know..I have a feeling they will change it up quite a lot. I think AHFOD was written also in order to be played live cuz they have been missing us so much since 2012 hehe But after this long tour they will have satiated their hunger for live shows (for a little while at least! ) and I think they will yield something different once they are back in the studio. Kinda reminds me how I felt (and most felt) when Midnight was released as the GS teaser. People were saying wow it doesn't even sound like Coldplay hehe It was such an original song. I personally would love to see them going even more experimental :)

As a fellow musician, I agree with your analysis. The music I write always reflects how I feel in the moment and that is inevitably the result of where I am in my life right now.

But thats exactly what they have had, the most fun in the studio ever during AHFOD (and the fewest squabbles apparently according to Will!) :)

Oh my...good thread but hard to answer! haha And yes I love the sharing in the community too :) I´ll give it a go... Favorite album: AHFOD right now , but if you had asked me in 2014 it would have been GS, if you had asked me in 2012 it would have been MX, you get my drift haha If you ask me in 2-3 years time hopefully it will be "LP 8". To me the albums are inseparable from the eras of my life they depict and that is the simple reason why my favourite album changes with time, because they have truly been the soundtrack of my life (so far anyway!) :) Favorite song: Adventure of a lifetime. It has my favourite lyric ever, my favourite Jonny lick ever and the band is just so together in this track its lovely. My favourite song in 2014 was A sky full of stars, this comes still as a very close second! Favorite era: From Viva onwards, not much musically as I equally like tracks from the first two albums as well, but because here they started to get colourful (and I love colours !) and their live shows started to be something else :)

How many plays are we talking about here? hehe Cuz I played Always in my head 300+ times and it still makes me sad 80% of the time hehe

Also Jessie always reminds me of me in many ways haha But yeah such a nice movie. I wonder if we will see a fourth in 10 years time :)
