So its a bunch of other people´s opinion, still an opinion :) I am not gonna go and speak for the whole rock scene :P , but I´ll just say one thing. Whats the use of a piece of art (whether it´d be a painting or an album or a book) that is agreed to be technically masterful by the "experts" of the field, if it doesn't resonate or touch anyone? To me the success of a piece of art comes down to two things at the end of the day: whether the artist felt it truly reflected what he wanted to share and whether it touches/moves/resonates with someone else. Under these criteria, Coldplay are hardly in decline imo.

Oh? Lazy journalism then? :) It´d be nice to know how many albums they actually sold in total so far.

All boils down to that, not? You can talk of an album´s production, the technical ability of the players, the intricacy of the songwriting until your head turns blue, but at the end of the day you will love it if it resonates with you, if not you won't. I think its a lot of fun to share impressions with others, but one must me wary of drawing general conclusions, cuz I think its almost impossible.

Yeah I noticed that too...It´s actually quite melancholic with those minor chords in the synths.

I like that the album has a good balance of cheeky fun moments (including lyric-wise) and profound poetic lyrics. Thats after all what life is like too, a mix of both and to have only one or the other I think would be boring imo.

I like ballads generally, but I dont think I would like more than one or max two on one album, otherwise I´d feel like I am buying a Celine Dion LP *lol* And Prospekt´s March is the best EP ever! :) And it only has two my max required number of two ballads on it (well Postcard is a mini mini ballad hehe)

I agree wholeheartedly. Adventure has one of my favourite lyrics of all time "Under this pressure, under this weight, we are diamonds taking shape". Such a fantastic way to put the challenges in life in a positive context, and poetic too. You gave some great examples too and there are really a lot to choose from on AHFOD.

I love the Oceans Sky transition as well. It perfectly epitomises the end of the GS journey to me. And yeah the wedding bells are heart-wrenching and just perfect

I suspect this may be the whole point: the contrast effect. Like you rightly pointed out, they did it on MX with Ufo and Princess, now I can definitely see it again in AHFOD. Genre barrier breaking is almost a mission for the boys, they´ve said so in many an interview too. I agree that it may be very jarring, but it´s definitely on purpose. They give a damn and always will :) They put their heart and soul in each release and all the little detail, no doubt about that.

Hey so many musicians :) I always wanted to learn how to play violin, but have not gotten to it yet. I imagine myself in the future with a Sherlock Holmesesque air playing beautiful violin arias whenever I need to ponder about the solution to world peace *lol* But so far I play drums, acoustic and electric guitar and piano (but only for chords mostly) ...oh and "I play the singer" too haha :)

The day that happens is the day I will stop liking chocolate. Safe to say: NEVER :D If Beyonce even would feature in the video, if Hymn becomes a single, I am sure it will be in a subtle way...maybe a fazed silhouette, like an an angel, I dont know, something like that :)

*lol* Well thats exactly how Chris does not see the music world I think, as divided into genres and styles. I think he/they are just delving into wherever the muse takes them, without thinking too much bout it. Incidentally I have found ONE Justin Bieber song I actually like: Show Me and I found it on the same day I actually listened to the song Chris recommended by Selena Gomez: Good for you and I liked that too. That day I did indeed check my blood pressure, just to make sure I was not running a fever *lol* But there you go, there can be good music everywhere :)

I like it :) I like all tracks on Rush. Coldplay are one of the few artists where I like all songs really, others would be Lana Del Rey and Oasis, off the top of my head :)

I am putting my money on the album sales exploding just after the Superbowl. Marketing platform doesn't get any bigger than that...:) I remember how MX had a slow rise too with the singles.

I am leaning towards more Everglow and Hymn as potential future singles. I like how you guys have a favourite list of songs off AHFOD hehe I dont yet. I am still at the stage where I consider the full album as one long song haha
