Am I missing something?
I was and still am blown away by Paradise and baffled by the negative reaction. Why less negative reaction to Viva? I think it´s because it was still an album on the fence so to speak: Coldplay were moving into a new direction but did not get there yet (Also confirmed by what we heard in the interviews post-Viva). Now with MX I feel they got where they wanted to go: they surely seem very excited about this album. So I think it´s a case of people maybe expecting Viva to be followed by an album that was going to take a different direction than what MX took.

Let's just calm down...
Love your post. I feel exactly the same and have been defending the guys integrity at each occasion I get, simply because no-one can ever say that they are anything but hard-working and artistically-driven. That´s how we have always known them to be and that´s also why a lot of us love them. But sometimes it is easier to blame external factors, other than admit that your idea of what great music is suddenly differs from what your favorite band thinks great music is :)

Lyrics
Thought of posting this here as well.... Am I the only one who thinks the story is truly touching? I can really feel for this woman, who once dreamed of a beautiful world and then was crashed by reality, but she somehow still finds the strength to keep dreaming and maintain the hope that there will be a new brighter day...I can imagine so many people feeling like this in the world now, in different situations, whether it´s personal strife, war or just the darkness life sometimes brings.

The Coldplay Redemption Thread
I will come regularly to this thread simply because I feel I have spent more time discussing why Paradise/MX is not crap than actually celebrating the fact that I love these songs and this forum has always been a place for me to come and just go all out on how much I love Coldplay songs. So now I will go and listen to Paradise for 10th time! hehe Is anyone noticing new nuances with each listen? Only after 5 listens I heard the claps and yesterday I heard the small bells or whatever they are in the end. Nice touches!

Female vocal? ** UPDATED - It's Rihanna **

The Spread The Love Thread
I just posted something similar in another thread, before I read yours. I also think this has become so redundant. Yesterday it was interesting, but today I just want to get excited about MX and that´s it, because that is what we usually do when a new Coldplay album is out and I kid an miss that feeling.

Is This the Most Hate?
I think you might want to read the article on Coldplaying about the mixed reactions to MX/Paradise. That just about says it all. I don´t think I have ever seen this forum most split. MX has turned into a hot potato indeed :)

Why is everyone OVERREACTING?!?!
I can only speak for myself when I say I don´t think I am overreacting, but I am sure I am not alone in feeling that if you like MX, you will often come and respond to critic, simply because a lot of us went and listened to Paradise and went WOW and then came to this forum and were totally put off by the criticism. I think there is a strong desire to find a common ground so we can all, or at least the majority, start to get excited about MX together. After all, this is our big Coldplay family and no-one likes arguing with the people you love :)

to all the "real fans"
There are so many threads like this and they all end up the same way. Sometimes you can just copy and paste and you would not be able to tell the difference.... How about a breath of fresh air? I am a die-hard fan of MX and its controversial songs (ETIAW and Paradise), but I will do my best to see this from the perspective of those who are disappointed. If I were you, I would probably do one of two things: either ignore Paradise and ET altogether and wait the studio version of songs like UATW or Up with the birds or if I think this band has gone mainstream or downhill or whatever, I would just move on. I get it that you want to voice your disappointment, but personally after voicing a few times, I would just either adjust to MX or find myself a new favorite artist. I am just saying this simply because it won´t get any better with continuous threads about how the new music is crap or Coldplay have gone mainstream. Get onboard of the MX train or don´t. I love discussions but this is becoming redundant...am I the only feeling this?

Will contribution....
But the electronic drums are probably all played by Will in the studio anyway. A drummer can also go from acoustic to electronic and still be playing the instrument. As he is the drummer, that´s how HE decided to play, otherwise he would have voiced his disagreement and we all know everyone listens when chief Will speaks up hehe

This would have been a touch of class....
They wanted Rhianna and they can do what they want. I don´t mean it in a rude way: I just mean to say that is their artistic choice and maybe when we listen to POC, we might even agree. Let´s give them the benefit of the doubt, at least until we hear the studio version

THINGS EVOLVE!!!
I agree about not bashing the band´s decision and direction. It is their right to do exactly as they want to do and they don´t owe us anything. I did read quite a few good reviews of Paradise, so I think it was a good choice for first single, but charts will tell I guess whether people will respond to it or not. And yes it is only one song out of 14, so I am sure there will be enough variety to please both sides of the fence :) BTW I think the sentence "things evolve" is not offensive, so I would definitely not be bothered by it, as long as we don´t start calling each other names, childish or whatever else personal :)

Too much hate going around, next single?
I also think Charlie Brown will be the next single, but maybe it will be released after MX drops. It would be a bit too much to have 4 singles released before the album? But then again others have done the same (Gaga), so why not.

Press reviews
I found this article, quoting quite a few early press reviews. Surprisingly positive, more than I expected. http://m.idolator.com/pl/6008082/review-revue-coldplay-paradise Any other reviews you found?

Have they lost their minds?
Ok wow I guess being overwhelmed by emotion is not as valid or acceptable as articulating one´s thoughts in a logical way? I beg to differ. Music IS emotions and I think I explained myself very well when I said the song was overwhelmingly moving for me when I heard it. No matter how well it is articulated, emotions are the reason people like or dislike songs. Period. May I add: it´s easier to criticize logically than it is to praise logically :)

Have they lost their minds?
I welcome any civilized post. They are sorely needed today! :) I highly doubt Paradise was made with the sole criteria of being sung in stadiums (that can be said of Viva too as well then). Obviously we all speculate, but I think they just write what they like to write at the moment, regardless of where it is played. That said, I can not wait to sing this in the stadium, together with all their other songs which sound great live :) As for your feelings about all the new songs. I am sorry to hear you feel this way. I can imagine it must be disappointing. I could not be further from your perspective as the MX material has spoken to me in such a strong way, musically and lyrically, more than any other album they made (and that is unexpected as I just resonated greatly with VLV). But alas subjectivity :) I hope we can both agree that Coldplay keeps changing and that is a brave move, bound to split audiences though, especially long-time fans

Opinions are opinions
Yes I agree. I think it will calm down in a few days. Gotta give it to MX though: the most controversial Coldplay album to date :) Quite an honorary title already! However I do often feel quite alone in voicing my love for Paradise or other new songs. Yes there are extremists on both sides, but knowing this is Coldplaying, one is always aware that the funders are the long-time fans and probably amongst those not liking the new material, so it´s bit of an awkward time for an MX lover. That said, the site remains very good at being impartial, so it´s all a good :)

What if Coldplay Would Make An Album Under An Idependent Label?
I agree about the EP release plan smelling of money-making greed. As for the special edition though, it can´t really be targeted for Christmas shopping as it will only be available on coldplay.com so it will only be die-hard fans who order it anyway. I think it is delayed because it is made to order: I hope so anyway :) With corporate, you never know  But I do maintain they have full artistic freedom. I don´t see these guys bending to anyone when it comes to their music

Paradise is amazing
After hearing Paradise in all of its glory, I don´t really dig the sparse piano cover, but thanks for posting the link!

The Sickening Chris Martin Quote About Rihanna
AH Yes I would be worried too if I thought they were trying to pull off a full hip-hop sound. :shocked2: But as in Viva I thought the south-american rhythms were very subtle yet present, so I think in MX the hip-hop beats, for lack of better term, will also be present, yet subtle.
