  1. I LOVEEE Us Against the World. :DDD The acoustics, Will's voice, and the intimacy of the sound and them all playing close together. [:
  2. EPICCC. I loveeeee these live streams. :] Especially since they hardly ever tour near New York. :| To MSG occasionally but other than that practically never.
  3. I like this. Very straight-forward and concise. (: What is your opinion of the new songs by the way?
  4. True. [: That's only one though. I think they're done it more and better on this album (from what we've heard anyway). There's a greater amount of overlapping in that sense which I think is clever/cool.
  5. Same. It's definitely catchy but it's based on rock-elements. When it's guitar-centered rather than centered around a synth riff or a hip-hop beat it doesn't seem as pop for me. Probably a personal bias. And just because something is pop-influenced or sounding doesn't make it bad. If the instrumental talent is there and the lyrics are meaningful, then it's a great song no matter what genre you consider it.
  6. Great, sig! From 'All I Need' by Radiohead. Fantastic song. :D Still can't decide if ill listen or not. I really like the general reaction though. Doesn't sound to be too pop-y like Pardise was which is a relief. Why is there only a video of this song and not DLIBYH though?
  7. I honestly believe the lyrics to both this song and Us Against the World are some of the best from Coldplay in awhile. :) I'm hoping the other songs are more like this and not like Paradise which to me has little lyrical value. Hopefully fantastic lyrics extend throughout the album.
  8. This is true. Good point. Just trying to think out of the box and explain the number thing.
  9. I didn't know where to put this. But anyway. I don't really understand the two extremes. Either it's the absolutely best music EVER or it's the absolutely worst music EVER. And we should kill Brian Eno or whatever. But I just don't see it. I think Us Against the World, Hturts Like Heaven, Charlie Brown, and Major Minus are fantastic songs. And frankly I don't see why other people don't like them- sonically, melodically, and lyrically they're not terribly different to the Coldplay music of the past and even better in some cases. As for the other two songs, Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and Paradise, well. I think ETIAW is a good-great song, even with the synth intro I'm not in the understanding of hatred. It's no more pop-influenced than Life in Technicolor- it's grounded on a synth melody played alongside an acoustic guitar. Jonny's playing is fantastic and the only real weak points are the opening two stanzas of lyrics and ending chorus. It reminds me vividly of a U2-esque song to be honest and has grown on me a decent amount. It seems that much better ever since Paradise was released a few days ago. Paradise on the other hand I feel is dreadful at best. There doesn't seem to be much meaning in the lyrics, the chorus is overblown and repetitive and the drum-track is really boring and generic. I don't think the problem with this song is it's pop/hip-hop influneces. I don't know about anyone else but there are pop and h-h songs I listen to that are good and even great in some cases. But in Coldplay's case 1) It's just not their strong-suit in making these things 2) There's nothing redeeming or worthwhile in it. It's not catchy or deep or clever or revealing. It just doesn't work. With all of that in mind I am very excited for the new songs, I expect that as Paradise and ETIAW were released as singles, they're the MOST pop-influenced on the album, that is to say, more than any other song and thus that's why they were chosen. I don't think there's any other songs like that because the other song they considered for the second single was Charlie Brown, which seems more alt. rock influenced than pop for me. If Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven are in fact the next two most pop songs on the album after ETIAW and Paradise, I think we're in for a very good album my friends.
  10. First one is definitely lyrics apart of Hurts Like Heaven And for the second, according to my trivial nerdiness, Viva la Vida was #1 on billboard from the week of 6/28 to the week of 7/5/08. I don't see what it has to do with the album but seems like a sorta weird coincidence. :P
  11. While I disagree with Batmotor's statement, just because they don't play a lot of songs from it doesn't mean it's not good. The band themselves have stated they don't personally like it in retrospect looking back on it and that's fine. That doesn't make it a bad album just because they themselves don't like it as much as the others. Not everyone feels exactly like the band does.
  12. I DON'T want to hear the new songs! But. I DO want to hear the reactions to/descriptions of the song from the people who, like me, didn't like Paradise at all but liked all the other new songs. :) :P
  13. I'm not sure. I don't think there is any, although sometimes iTunes offers bonus tracks. But I don't think this will be the case with MX. So there's no advantage I guess. Just giving money directly to the band rather than a 3rd party (i.e. superstore or wherever you get it). Why does everyone want those so much? lol You could have mine honestly+legitimately. I'd have to remember this in December when the LE ships though.
  14. I've heard a lot of criticisms aimed at many of the new songs, and others completely loving it. And because of that the only the truly outspoken and strongly for or against the songs are heard. So I ask you. How would you rate that songs (out of 10) that we've heard and are going to make MX? In order on the tracklist: Hurts Like Heaven: 9.8 Paradise: 3.6 Charlie Brown: 9.4 Us Against the World: 9.8 Every Teardrop is a Waterfall: 7.5 Major Minus: 8.9 And will you buy the album? Even after hearing Paradise last night, which did deter me a bit, I bought the limited edition version for $80. I just realized I'll have to buy the CD separate though because the LE doesn't come out until December 12th. :|
  15. Why is it I can't have an opinion without it being criticized? I never said it was the end all be all to what everyone thinks. And. Everyone throws around the band's name like it's completely garbage which it's not.
  16. Dear Oracle, PLEASE tell me the album is not in the vein of Paradise. Why do they have to sound so mainstream and generic? Coldplay have always been my favorite band. And the strings and bass are great. But the lyrics, the chorus, the hip-hop beat and the lack of guitar just kill it. I respect their experimentation but honestly there's almost no meaning at all in the lyrics and the chorus couldn't be more overblown. I'm wishing for more songs a la Hurts Like Heaven, Us Against the World and Charlie Brown. I hate to be so critical but please give me hope. I don't want to have to give up on them...
  17. Nope. Important differences 1) They actually play the instruments, which requires talent, regardless of what form that is. Good or bad music. 2) They actually write their own lyrics. Regardless of quality. That's two things the BSB don't do. And I have no respect for artists who sing and do absolutely nothing else. Garbage. 3) They're not trying to get adolescent girls turned on. 4) They don't dance like idiots. With that in mind, this is not a good song. David is awesome and the piano and bass are good. But the lyrics, chorus, hip-hop beat and lack of any guitar until the end just ruins it. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall is definitely better. If this keeps up I will have to change my favorite artist to Radiohead.
  18. In retrospect a country singer would probably be worse. In my view anyway. Still. :| I would've much more appreciated Leona Lewis. Gorgeous and talented.
  19. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I mean to give credit to Chris I think she is one of the better female vocalists of today. But I don't want that SLUT SEX POP GARBAGE on my Coldplay album!! : F-ing ridiculous. X( I'm beyond disappointed. It makes me wanna badly change my favorite band to Radiohead. :'( Edit: although they had Jay-Z on lost so. i guess I can't really say much. He's really talented though and Chris is good friends with him so it's different for me. i guess it could be worse. I just hope there is a version without her like the one without Jay of Lost! Maybe it'll be really good and surprise us. I kind doubt it though.
  20. please tell me that's in the AM sir. I want to buy, download and hear it here at 8/8:30 EDT in the US before I head off to class.
  21. Does this mean there's a chance we'll get to see the tracktimes if it can be preordered???? I really hope so!
  22. When you put it like that it reminds me of 1,000-1 (Ballad of...) that was initially listed on the South Bank show as a song. But that doesn't explain why it's two 1,000's or the 10 at the end so. :S Fail.
  23. Well, since we're already off-topic and not going by what the thread is supposed to be about. Tocqueville states that the principle of equality here in the thread breeds natural Cartesianism. This makes us all very individualistic and more self-reliant than if there was inequality, because if we're all equal how is anyone else's opinion greater than ours? If we're all equal (BY PRINCIPLE) ours is as good as any. And in that mind-set we close ourselves off to the outside world and get wrapped up in ourselves. I hypothesize many people dislike X&Y because of a branch of this idea. He says that despite our Cartesianism we become insecure and wonder if our opinions are right. Eventually a majority opinion surfaces and our vulnerabilities are exposed. Even if we're 'wrong', siding with the majority has fewer consequences than being with the minority and thus outnumbered and overpowered. It's the tyranny of the majority as Tocqueville calls it, my friends. X&Y is a fantastic album, it's just the primary opinion has taken over and subconsciously persuaded them to adapt the prevailing mindset of X&Y, which was negative by the standards of critics and even our own Chris Martin.
