NBC DVD SPECIAL TRAILER! (May 18, 2014)
wish they would release the blu-ray sooner - these commercials are too many - it breaks the flow of the album.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
They wanted to tour this album extensively, but the cost was prohibitive because they wanted a setup like they had at Sony Studios to give the audience a fully immersive experience of the album and what they wanted to convey. Each time to setup would cost 4 million dollars per reports. So, they decided to film over the 3 days in L.A. at the Sony Soundstage in order to capture what they wanted to present on tour. These 6 dates or so are just promo for the album. They can't tour this album worldwide - 6 months down the road is right around the holidays for the U.S. and the UK - perfect timing for a dvd/blu-ray of the full tv concert with the full album play through, plus a live cd of the concert is an easy sell. Perhaps there may be an EP of the bonus tracks plus two others we haven't heard, or they could just release the bonus tracks for sale in other parts of the world. From what people heard from the Atlantic record execs - 12 to 18 months is the timeline given for the next record (remember Chris stated they recorded a ton of songs in the past year, many that did not make it to Ghost Stories but perhaps it may have been a Mylo situation if people recall - they recorded songs that ended up going into the LP 7 pile, and the few that did make the cut, made it on Ghost Stories - thus only 9 tracks. Regardless, i hope they take their time and really work on their songs - I appreciate that they take their time and really hone their songs. No rush in my opinion for greatness. Also, 2 albums within a year or so of each other is beyond gold especially from a band like Coldplay. If they feel confident in the other material for another album with concept and quality intact, then more power to them. I cannot wait - and am so glad that I went to both NYC concerts. Quick ? is is true they are going to set up Royal Albert Hall like they did for the Sony Studio soundstage - if so, that is going to be one hell of a concert. If anyone knows, let me know, I would seriously consider flying out to London for that.

Always In My Head
I just wish the Jonny's guitar riffs were a little more pronounced on the studio version - he is a master at simple riffs, that are just heavenly - live, Jonny really shines but on the studio version, it feels a little more subdued. Well we will get a blu-ray version of the concert so we'll have the best of both worlds. Also, I think Chris mentioned that Madeon helped with the synth fx on the track which really makes it so haunting including Jonny's slide guitar work.

NBC DVD SPECIAL TRAILER! (May 18, 2014)
It's probably going to be AIMH, Magic, Midnight, ASFOS, Another's Arms, and the last one - likely Oceans but they could go with True Love or ??? I would have loved to seen O - but I knew they couldn't play the full album - they have to play their hits too - which is going to be Fix You, Viva, ETIAW or Clocks. Hopefully the Blu ray (not only DVD) has the full album with more in depth interviews and behind the scenes of the making of the album as well as the film.

Rank Coldplay's 6 Studio Albums
1. Viva/MX 2. GS/ 3.AROBTTH 4. X&Y 5. Parachutes this recent trilogy is one of my favorites - AROBTTH is on the level of those 3, but I just love the leaps and bounds Coldplay has taken with their production style and sound in these last 3 albums.

O (part 2)
Unless Moses sounds like his sister or a little girl, I don't hear the difference - how old is he? I really wanted to hear his version of Don't let go - but it sounds like Apple and Mabel instead again.
-
Alternative Tracklist.
I think O (which Chris has on his acoustic guitar on the tour so far) represents the eternal connection to his children/ex wife and others, and also represents that you never truly let go of anyone in your life especially the ones that you love. Also could be the infinite nature of intangible things in a seemingly finite world (e.g. love, music, art, happiness, sadness, etc.). One last thing, it could represent the eternal spectacular now - being present in the here and now and taking everything in as it comes - buddhist in its philosophy, of enjoying and embracing life and not being attached so much to the outcome of things, and never-ending learning. Ok... I think that's enough for now, lol, but I love coldplay for the thought they really put into the concept of their albums, and how they present them on tour and in promoting their music.

Mylo Xyloto vs Ghost stories
Round 1: MX/Hurts like heaven vs. Always in my head- (tie - both magnificent openers with celestial instrumentals, and openers to their respective album's themes Round 2: Paradise vs. Magic - Would have to go with Paradise here - that bass line is so killer, and the strings that open the song really get you hyped up. FWIW, Magic is a perfect single for the stripped back sound of Ghost Stories. It's almost a tie. Round 3: Charlie Brown vs. Ink (No competition, Charlie Brown all the way, Ink sounds like a B-side from Viva Era - though a decent album track. CB is just heavenly especially with that opening sound effect, Jonny B riff, and that closing piano. Round 4 Us against the world vs True Love - UATW for the win again, that opening with the organ, and Jonny arpeggios, and chord progression into just a blissful Coldplay acoustic song that morphs into a grand symphony of all the quartet. True Love is good, though it sounds like Taylor Swift's Love Story. I think the production on this was off, especially with the useless Timbaland bass drum beat (which didn't add much in my opinion. Jonny's solo is one of the highlights of the song, but not enough to save it. Round 5: MMIX/ETIAW Vs. Midnight - Wow, tie between the two - ETIAW is an outstanding track, and true take of Coldplay and EDM in a sense. A great anthem, with lyrical complexity, and interesting chorus. Midnight is in another realm, perfect departure for Coldplay, and they pulled it off well. Round 6: Major minus vs. Another's arms I like both, equally, but I think Another's arms wins out by a hair - the production, the synth sounds really elevate this song for me. as for Major - it is coldplay's Big Brother song, and they pull it off, with Jonny shredding throughout the song. great lyrics - I think this might be a tie, now... Round 7: Up in flames vs Oceans - Oceans - love the drum beat effect in this one, and the synths later in the song. Up in Flames is great too, again especially Will's drum beat, and Jonny's solo - but will go with Oceans for now Round 8: A hopeful transmission/Don't let it break your heart vs. ASFOS - ASFOS - it's catchy lyrically, and a true crowd pleaser. DLIBYH is good too, another near tie for me especially with a hopeful transmission reiterating the same chord progression/motif from MX. Round 9: Up with the birds vs. O - Up with the birds - just love the transition from piano to the guitars and the soaring chorus, then with a simple piano riff to close. Fly On is great, but I wish there was a little more instrumentation, love the instrumental part of it - but am rating the actual song portion of it. Im a huge fan of MX and GS - but MX wins out for me obviously (even UFO & POC are great songs in my opinion, despite the traditionalists or old school Coldplayers naysaying).

All Your Friends
Love this song - very shoe-gaze - Jonny showing his love of Stone Roses and My Bloody Valentine - really digging this track. Could have been on the main list - but see why they put it as a bonus track.
-
Alternative Tracklist.
This is perfect!! I really like the incorporation of Atlas because it totally has the same dna as the rest of the tracks on the album, as it should. Really like the use of the O reprise - almost MX in style of a 1st half of a story. then respite, of Don't ever let go then into a acousticy type song of existentialism and what is the point - then discuss his friends/people, then back into his heartbreak. It's a true LP in a sense.

Target Version Leaked? (Read first post before posting)
right on, jc90 - it's like people become babies when actual babies of this generation could easily find the files. Come on - it's not that hard.
-
How often have you listenned to GS?
on the hour, every hour - no, not that frequent, but definitely almost any chance i get, i've been doing full album run throughs too - not individual tracks. Love the concept album philosophy & I know Coldplay take care in their tracklisting.
-
do you agree now with the choises of singles or not?
Absolutely agree with their singles releases - I think being a Coldplayer can cloud your judgment on how the rest of the world/non Coldplay audience views and appreciates Coldplay songs. Midnight - to me, was like whoa - and wasn't digging it on first listen - I was like, what is Coldplay doing, but man - it is one of their best tracks that grows on you - but for someone who never really listens to Coldplay - it comes right out and can grab your attention especially in this electronic/edm dominated music age - and it came out of nowhere with this trippy video - boom! redefining Coldplay for the masses. Brilliant move by them - Magic - after hearing this, I was like this is more like Coldplay but it sounded ok to me compared to their previous lead single releases - but that bass line is so catchy, and it's simple song but so classic Coldplay with that chorus hook, and the build up to Chris coming in with his guitar is perfect. Magic is a grower and definitely would get people to listen, and think about buying the album or at least the single. The single - works. Sorry, Ink would not have sold as well - it's a Coldplay B-side as a single, but a decent album track (it's my weakest of all the tracks on a strong album). A sky full of stars was released at a good time because the album was close to being released - it renewed interest in the album, it went straight to 1 in itunes across the world - it got the EDM crowd into it as well plus the common layman. I think if they decide to release another single - it would be True Love, i really like the track a lot - was lucky enough to hear it live at the Beacon concert - but I don't think they will release as a full blown single, but just to radio not for sale. But Mila Furstova has already dne the artwork for all the singles, promo or otherwise for the album unless they commission another one from her. They are not going to really promote this album on a wide scale like their previous albums - so for what they had, I think they did it right. We'll see how the sales go, but then again in this day and age of illegal downloads and such - we won't really know the real demand of their album and have to gauge it per the context of today's music market.
-
Criticisms with the album?
GS/Viva/MX (really love this trilogy - they're all great in my opinion - the evolution and progress of their sound is astounding). AROBTH/X&Y (tie - X&Y really had increased the experimentation from AROBTTH with Square One, X&Y, Low but they have some absolute classics, especially Swallowed in the Sea for me, Fix You, Til Kingdom Come, A Message...) Parachutes

Always In My Head
The opening instrumental into AIMH is an opiate like no other. It is pure Coldplay bliss - I could listen to a 10 minute track of these two songs just looping - it's that beautiful - I like this track even over O (which is really good, but simple instrumentation) - AIMH is lush defined - thank you Coldplay for amazing openers to all of your albums - I'm glad they really think about that, or at least it seems like it. Going back to listen to it again, on repeat...
-
Where did the hidden track go ?
That two minute gap between O and the ending instrumental is atrocious, (i listened to the tracks through itunes radio (big mistake, with the ads, and stops for the announcer telling you're listening to coldplay - so annoying, so glad they released an animation video with none of the ads, and the stupid 2 minute gap - why do that? IT breaks the continuity of the ending of the album - I know they tried to make it 42 minutes long, but really... to sacrifice the flow of the album? I'll have to cut that down when i get the tracks individually - whoever of the 4 or if Phil ok'd that, messed up big time. Rant over... for now.
-
Least favourite song from each album?
We never change - A Whisper Twisted Logic Lost + (I don't understand the fascination with Jay-Z, he's not that good of an artist/musician... oh well). Nothing off Viva Nothing off Mylo Nothing of Ghost Stories Truly this last trilogy of albums has been outstanding - can't wait to hear what's next - I hope these guys keep going as long as possible.

Rank the Ghost Stories songs!
Keeping it simple, but so much to say about all the tracks, the transitions, the instrumentals - Coldplay, thank you - the music is beyond amazing!!! 1. O (instrumental) into Always In MY Head (one of their best openers - and I love all their openers - mx into hlh, lit, politik, don't panic, square one) - Sets the stage perfectly with that ethereal soothing instrumental and then into a gloriously chill but emotional track (jonny's guitar lines are so good) 2. Midnight - another world.. nuff said. O - atlas' cousin - the vocal and piano line are classic and so heartfelt... flock of birds... 3. Oceans into Sky Full of Stars - with that sonar like drum pad beat, and simple guitar, then synth, then instrumental, then boom! from the oceans to the sky full of stars - great transition. ASFOS really fits for me in this album and the concept/story of it. It's a beautiful uplifting track that gives hope to Chris and all of us. Glad it's on the album. 4. True Love (heard this live) - loved the opening and the vocal line with that synth and drum beat, but for some reason jonny's guitar line seemed off key live - but hearing the studio version love it - in Jonny I trust! 5. Magic, Another's arms - Magic (didn't know what to make of this, thought it was ok, but it really has grown on me and I love it, the simple bass line with gradual build up - very chill but pop at the same time, that bass line, drum and guitar - gotta love G, W, and J. Another's arms - didn't like the itunes festival version, but when i saw it live I really liked it especially with visuals, but the studio version, I like even more with the effects on Chris' voice and the synth effects/drum beats. - Kudos to them 6. Ink - didn't like it initially, felt kind out of place, but Im liking it on repeat listens - has a Sleeping Sun vibe to it, which I always thought it was such an underrated b-side - definitely some tracy chapman influence, but Coldplay could always write some nice acoustic guitar lines. The lyrics are a bit strange for me, but it's a good song. overall, up there in the top albums for me. this trilogy is fantastic - Im planning on listening to all three albums then comparing to the original trilogy - what growth and progress - it's amazing to witness this over a 15 yr period. Thank you Coldplay!
-
Thank you for this, Coldplay
Absolutely spot on - Brendan - this music is what keeps hope alive compared to what we're used to - Coldplay are a once in a lifetime type of a band that just elevates the experience of life for all of us with heavenly music that takes through all the emotional spectrum of being human and living life. Words can't describe this album, but we try - and I have to believe this trilogy of albums have been some of the best music to come out in a long while. It just doesn't get any better - that visual animation just put me somewhere else (1st listen didn't even realize there was a visual animation for the album - oh man, the artwork is absolutely stunning, and what they did with the animation just heightened the experience even more). Btw, that instrumental to open the album is so soothing, like a musical opiate that heals all - and then transition into AIMH - one of my favorites... Viva La Coldplay!!!
-
"O" is gonna be my favorite track!
Yeah, the piano is just classic coldplay - definitely feels related to atlas's piano line. I love the song, but i'm kind of mixed bc i really wanted Jonny to play one of his classic shoegaze guitar lines more prominently (kind of like amsterdam, but I think with sky full of stars coming before it - I think they made their exclamation point and then with this song - sort of a coda... beautiful, simple, but such an emotional and ethereal song. What an album, and that instrumental with Apple's and Chris' voice - can't get any more beautiful than that - don't know if we have to thank Brian Eno's influence on them, but always loved how they liked ambient music (I think of their rendition of yellow in live 2003 dvd, or even how they open the concert with Eno's track). Regardless, this album just punctuates an another amazing trilogy for Coldplay - both a revolution and an evolution for them - we are so lucky to be able to witness this over the past 15 yrs or so. Incredible, Going back for the third listen (1st listen, didn't even realize this visual animation for the album, and really loved it... 2nd time with visual album - words cant' even describe the feeling - I felt like I was in another dimension of being. Thank you Coldplay and Phil!!!

iTunes First Play
Quick review - simply incredible - welcome Apple Martin - that opening instrumental is so ethereal, transcedent - what an opening sound - the album is simply majestic and truly meant for the oceans, the planet and the sky full of stars. - Pure and primal. This last trilogy of albums has been truly revolutionary and evolutionary with respect to Coldplay's Sound. Well done boys and Phil, of course = thanks for giving us faith that there is still beautiful music to be played in this world. Going back for seconds, thirds, fourths, ad infinitum... Viva La Coldplay!

[5-May-2014] Beacon Theatre, New York, USA
Wow - the 9p show was ridiculously good! I guess the extra time and run through in the matinee helped them to work out the kinks. I waited till last minute for prices to drop and got a 2nd row center seat through stub hub for a decent price - to see Coldplay in a venue like this was as mastercard would put it - priceless. 1 negative thing about sitting up close, is most of the people there are not diehards but kind of music industry types or really rich people who like to drink at shows. the 1st row had some really annoying people that kept trying to get Chris' attention but not in a good way. Overall, being that close, was amazing, Chris was on fire as well as the rest of the band. I was lucky enough to be at the AOL music concert for the X&Y promo tour - and it is amazing to see their evolution/progression after 9 yrs - they rocked the house. Plus, Til Kingdom Come is just magical (X&Y is underrated despite Chris' own feelings on the album) - Really wish they would play Swallowed in the Sea again - that is a classic Coldplay song along the lines of this relatively solemn introspective album. Life is for Living is... what I can say, what one of the best debut secret tracks in a long while - beautiful all around - that piano line, and the grand finale with all 4 getting involved is just vintage. Also, I'll be honest - wasn't a total fan of Another's Arms - at least from the radio broadcasts/itunes festival - but I think live it's really good, and they really tweaked the song enough to make it work. Another outstanding track with a brilliant Jonny solo. Oceans - sublime, ethereal - that drum pad effect is perfect for that song with Chris' simple guitar rhythm, and then Jonny with that heavy synth effect - both guy and jonny really showing their versatility this tour - they're everywhere, playing everything. I like the segue from Oceans into ASFOS - this time - there was a definite interlude a la Mylo Xyloto-esque into ASFOS - again, Sky is just phenomenal live - J, Guy, and Will are just shredding away on the song when the drop comes in. It will really sell this album well, and hopefully get more people to see the other aspects of Coldplay that make them such a talented and versatile band. Quick ? - who came up with piano riff, was it Avicci or Chris - or does Avicci just play the piano part - it's a bit confusing, bc Zane Lowe makes it out to be Chris who came up with piano part, but it looks more like Chris came up with song's vocal melody and of course lyrics. Anyway, brilliant song. Finally - True Love sounded pretty good with initial opening, and the visuals they've added to the screen is really cool (same for Another's Arms) - but for some reason Jonny's solo sounded off, like he wasn't playing it right - I dont' know if it was just my location or what - but up until that part, it was a decent song (I don't know if it's their best song from the album as Chris had mentioned (perhaps a bit of hyperbole), but sounds like another classic Coldplay track. All in all, cannot wait for that tv special, to get the full album experience as they wanted to people to experience but unfortunately was too expensive to take around the world. Regardless, In Coldplay I Trust - so fortunate to have a band like this out there (them, the Killers, and Keane for me) - 3 great bands that came around relatively the same time.
