  1. You're creeping me out because you can read my mind. Or rather, great minds think alike. :p
  2. Smiled at the Hurts Like Heaven description (quite funny). And the word vuvuzela. Other than that, fairly weak.
  3. I know! In fact I'm so conditioned that it gives me chills in advance every time I hear it.
  4. ^ Come on, don't be so rude. We know you don't like it, neither do I. Be glad that at least they realise some of their things are nonsense. I appreciate it more than when they think their own nonsensical titles and lyrics mean the world while they don't. Fortunately they don't do this. Neonhorn, Corkus and Osaka Sun:
  5. Parachutes 8,5/10 AROBTTH 10/10 X&Y 7/10 VLV 9/10 MX ??? Somewhere between 4 and 7 that will probably be.
  6. Damn, not again. They have done things that are truly great. I hate this kind of "they have to be like U2 and be the bestest biggest greatest band in the world" thing. It's sad that they think this themselves sometimes (especially Chris).
  7. Oh right, it's in America. Haven't missed anything.
  8. Something has to be done, but I doubt that will be a good solution, as it will be impossible to control whether everyone has their own tickets. Maybe a small sample of the concertgoers should be tested at the entrance to see if the ID matches the tickets, but doing that for everyone would be simply chaotic.
  9. Well, it wasn't much of a choice. Most people who are big fans can't resist having a peak at the new songs. We can't hide from any new Coldplay for 4-5 months. But it's not their fault either, I guess.
  10. Best version of the best song ever. Amen to that. Oh, has anyone seen the fan-recorded version of A Rush Of Blood To The Head in the Santiago show? Overall not as good as Live 2003, but greatest solo by Jonny ever. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4IoqXmYzJs]Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head (Live in Santiago) - YouTube[/ame]
  11. Yeah, you're right in a way, an album that only contains sad and "emo" (hate that word :p) songs can't be that good. Coldplay's older albums also have happier songs (take Strawberry Swing, it's more recent but I love it), but the feeling with these new ones is different. Not only are the lyrics lacking whether they are uplifting or not (saw Paradise lyrics being posted, and at first glance 80% of the lyrics is para para paradise...), I'm also talking about the way the songs sound. When I said artificial, I was talking about the sound that is caused by the mixing of genres and most of all, the production. Some may like it that way, I definitely don't.
  12. Haha, indeed. Cool story bro. Now get out, people like you are the reason "dislikers of the new direction" aren't taken seriously by some.
  13. Amsterdam  Death And All His Friends  Yes  Instead of Lost!
  14. Wow this is the most interesting thread I've read since the existence of humanity. A constructive conversation between people who love and people who dislike (I hate the word hate) the new direction. I think RonForTheHills explained my thoughts perfectly on page 1, so those who want to know what I think should just read that again :p I'd like to add some things... (long post coming up) There are some things people seem to misunderstand. Some say "people here either love the new direction or just want them to make the old kind of songs over and over again." That's just not true, I, for one, am not fond of the new songs at all. Still, I wouldn't want to make the same songs again per se. I'd love to hear new things, in the same way as I was thrilled by the new direction of VLV. It was different, but I still loved it. I don't mind evolution per se. I just don't like this evolution. Second, people say the album will please both sides with different songs. Some "new" and poppy, some acoustic. Again, there's no distinction between acoustic and non-acoustic, there's a distinction based on quality. A Rush Of Blood To The Head is by far my favourite song, and it's not acoustic, it's even loud. UATW may be an acoustic song, but, hate to say it, I like the song, but it seems more like a lullaby to me and doesn't even reach half of the quality Green Eyes and Til Kingdom Come have. Up In Flames may resemble old stuff but it's very bad in comparison. On the pleasing both sides thing, if there are songs I dislike all over the album, some scattered good songs won't make the whole album all good for me again. Many people are trying to calm the "haters" down by saying things like this "pleasing all" thing, but I have to say it takes some naivety to believe this is all true. Third, people are supporting Coldplay for experimenting. I support experimenting, but it seems (I'm talking mainly about ETIAW and Para here, btw) they are experimenting with things that have been done before... in pop music. Things that have had major chart success. This may be the opposite of brave if you recognise that these experimentations are certain to turn these songs into massive hits. Overall, here's my point: I do like some of the new songs (MM live, HLH and MTM in particular) but all of the new songs, including the ones I like, seem to miss something older songs do have. None of the new songs were able to touch me in any way (other than disappoint me in some cases). They seem artificial and sometimes cheap, and miss the honesty, sobriety, deepness and darkness, edginess, rawness, etc. that made me love the older songs. These new songs leave me with a rather indifferent feeling. I can see right through them. I can't understand why they see this as their masterpiece. They seem almost like a different band. It almost breaks my heart and it keeps me busy all day to think about the fact that this band that I love has now gone down to this state in which I can't recognise most things I love(d) about them. Again I mentioned a lot of things I don't like without even mentioning the Rihanna collaboration (just the very thought of them promoting an already world-famous diva and therefore not surprising the world with a new talented less known artist, for example). I bought tickets to the Antwerp show, even though I'm not feeling warm about the upcoming album. I don't know why, I still love them live, maybe I'm nostalgic about the time when they were everything I wanted to see in a band (but I was too young), see Live 2003 (as in their rather sober live shows that are now full of colours, props, lasers, confettis and all that), and I would have loved to be part of a 2002-03 show, and I'm trying to make up for that by going to a new show instead, I dunno. So that's off my chest (I seem to do that a lot though :p). I hope I haven't been too rude or hurt anyone's feelings over the last few months, because I am rather on the negative side. I confess one of the reasons I joined was to complain about ETIAW. But it breaks my heart to see that some people very closely related to Coldplay are heartbroken by all this. I still love the guys, their intrinsic honesty in interviews, their personalities, their effort. It makes me sad that they can't please me that much anymore, although I know they are trying hard to please as many people as possible.
  15. I wish everyone the best of luck to get the tickets they want tomorrow. :)
  16. I'd have to agree with you on the bold part. That's one of the reasons I dislike the studio version. Moreover, it's too clean, it has lost the chaos and edginess the live version has. And I miss the first guitar solo bridge.
  17. I've got my presale tickets ordered (the most expensive ones ). Odd, because I wasn't sure at all whether I'd be going. I hope they will incorporate some less-known songs and some older stuff, because I'm afraid the concert will feature almost the entire new album, with just all the "greatest hits" added. I'm dying for an unpredictable setlist.
  18. I don't usually kill myself in good ways either.
  19. My state would be called "conservatively carefully excited with a few grains of pessimism", or something... I have to admit that the switch between excited and pessimistic is very easily made.
  20. MM is the best song of this era so far and by far the best live song they played this summer. Hell, it's fucking great. You're not the only one who thinks that way.
  21. All of the songs they have released have his approval... Also ETIAW, just sayin
  22. This has my hopes rising a bit again. Up With The Birds should be one hell of a great song, just like UFO. Glad there is an explanation for the choice of the singles (something we've assumed before). Love the typical way Chris describes the album and the songs. Dragons and mountains, lol.
  23. He says he doesn't care about what people think anymore... but he seems so nervous, I can see that he's in fact concerned, or am I wrong? "Colourful" is the word that I've always associated the MX era with (if it's not the colourful artwork, instruments and props, then it's definitely the colourful sound). Whether that's something I like is something else. I hope it won't be too colourful, for that would be kitschy in my eyes. I think I'm going to miss the sobriety of their previous albums. But before I judge, I'm dying to hear the album a few times. I'm confident that they know what they're doing. Even if that would mean I totally don't like the new direction, there's really nothing I could do about it. They don't owe me anything. I was only born too late to be able to enjoy their Parachutes and AROBTTH days to the fullest.
  24. How many times do we still have to say, not any kind of evolution is intrinsically good. Imagine if Gyarados evolved into Magikarp. That would be called evolution indeed, but Magikarp is a shite Pokemon. I know Magikarp evolves into Gyarados and not the other way around, and I know it's a bad comparison, but how am I going to get this point clear?
