Is the money and fame getting to Chris Martin's songwriting abilities??
I think there's a lot of truth in this post. He just doesn't want to sing about things people know about or people can imagine what they are about (marriage with Gwyneth, for example). I'm sure he still has personal problems and worries, for example: he has two children. No matter how rich he is, he's got to be very worried about them. This could bear some very good lyrics (think about "Afraid Of Everyone" by The National). But the problem is he doesn't want people to associate the lyrics of his music to his (famous) private life. Why this means he has to sing about happy wawawaterfalls, spray can souls and para-para-paradise, like someone said before, is beyond me. He can do better and deeper than that. There's still a lot of misery going on in the world, and I'm sure he's concerned about all that. Politik and AROBTTH are great examples of how he worked that out into lyrics in the past. I'd like to add that Moving To Mars has some great lyrics (forget about 8 to 9, 9 to 10). He hasn't lost his touch if you ask me.

I don't think this album will be as great as VLVODAAHF
- Moving to Mars vs Up In Flames
I can't help seeing UIF as an inferior, less inspired Life Is For Living. So yes, I prefer MTM, but what can we do about it?- Rank Coldplay's New MX Songs.
1. Major Minus 2. Hurts Like Heaven/Moving To Mars (can't compare them) --- 4. Us Against The World 5. Charlie Brown 6. Paradise 7. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall Keep in mind that I think most other Coldplay songs easily outrank most of these new ones.- Who is in control of the game?
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the build-up of most of your sentences. Did you use Google Translate? But by the way, I can see your point here.- Why do we hate "parapara" and "wawawa" but not "slowowowow"?
This. It's starting to get annoying. The point is, paraparaparadise and wawawaterfall lack serious inspiration, actually make up substantial parts of the chorus (if not the whole chorus), and sound annoying as fuck. Up In Flames just hurts my ears because of the falsetto and because it's the actual chorus. Whereas I-i-i-i-i-i-i, youuuuu aaaaaare and slooooooow it down are just part of the lyrics, don't sound annoying at all, and whisper whisper has a mysterious feel. Everything's not lost has something epic, something hypnotising. Sometimes repetitiveness is annoying, sometimes it sounds great, just not in every context. That's my point of view.- Paradise Live
I think it sounds slightly better live, especially the intro and the guitar solo by Jonny, really the only decent parts in the song.- Up In Flames, DLIBYH on Friday? (--> no)
:\- Para, para, parody!!! (VIDEO IN 1ST POST! Pai's song on page 3)
Great. Funny cause it's true.- What do you think of the new song 'Paradise'?
Let's say I've basically been on another planet since Monday morning. I've only heard the song today, along with the Rihanna announcement and the live recording of Up In Flames. The cocktail of these things didn't taste too good. Paradise is a weird song. I told myself to never listen to it again after two listens but then it seemed to grow on me for some reason. I know why: it's a catchy (slightly above) mediocre pop song. The kind of song the DJs play at parties, which I may like, but not too much. The ohohohs starting at 2:30 and the string parts sound awkwardly familiar and boringly embarassing. It's like they're trying to get hit material only using the cheap tricks they started to use in Viva La Vida (song). The songs overall sounds artificial and polished. Everything they do now is contradictory to what made me a fan in the first place. Coldplay should be way ahead of this. Or rather, they used to be. Now they're just blindly falling for simple (as opposed to intelligent) hit music. This is highlighted by the Rihanna collaboration. If they needed a female antagonist for POC, why not a less known talented singer (shouldn't be too hard to find) instead of a poular "big" superstar? Why not a less known genuinely great singer that deserves to be in the spotlight? This cash-filling collab thing I've always been opposed to (really tired of all the "featurings" popping up (pun not intended) in pop music) is driving me nuts. It's really embarrassing. For the record, Up In Flames starts promising, but the chorus (Up in flaaaaames falsetto X 1337) is making me feel bad in my stomach, I really don't like hearing it. Too bad, could have been a great song without the chorus (in my opinion). Reminds me a lot of Life Is For Living, great instrumental finale. But what I'm trying to say, today is the day I don't like what Coldplay do anymore. I listened through AROBTTH and I loved it even more than ever. They're wasting their time and reputation with what they're doing. ETIAW, Paradise, ... They're way too good for songs like that! I'll always love old Coldplay but today is where I draw the line. I doubt they will come back to what they were (a widely respected, humble, edgy alternative band - by far best band in the world - that wrote genius songs giving me shivers all over, using music instruments and with a sound no one could copy). Because now they are just a band expeimenting with cheap stuff that gives instant access to hit lists. And I'm afraid they can't get back. They'll keep following this direction. This gives me some kind of identity crisis. I'm a Coldplay fan, yet I strongly dislike what people will nowadays associate with Coldplay. And Coldplay is one of the things that define my personality. I'll always have to specify what kind of Coldplay I like. People will not understand. Some people refuse to check out great obscure less popular songs I try to provide, because they're blinded by the image Coldplay gives themselves by releasing these crappy singles. because of this, being a fan kind of embarrasses me. Know what I mean? Don't get me wrong, I will definitely buy the album, and I will keep following them close by, as a concerned fan. I wish them the best of luck with their new fans (the teeny party commercial public). I hope they realise that this is not their full potential. Give me real, don't give me fake, Coldplay. Open up your eyes. And see you soon. Note: I'd like this to be part of the "new direction" discussion in the news section of Coldplaying. Is that possible?- Need help convincing myself Coldplay isn't Super Poppy.
That's why I usually just selfishly state my own opinion and then try not to battle against the ones who disagree. You know, I try to say what's on my mind without arguing about it.- Need help convincing myself Coldplay isn't Super Poppy.
Haha Coldplay spirit. Haha more mellow. Just sayin... Don't want to make fun of your dad or anything though.- Need help convincing myself Coldplay isn't Super Poppy.
They haven't always been too poppy, but now they are. Keep listening to Coldplay songs you like and try to convince your friends about their better and less known songs.- Do you care about the track order?
Agreed agreed agreed. Imagine AROBTTH starting off with Amsterdam and finishing with Daylight, for example. Wouldn't be as good at all. I'm an album person too, definitely. And Coldplay are an album band. I'd like to say that I think Hurts Like Heaven (regardless of MX, which may be a full-length track) will be a great album opener. Although I'd prefer something like Politik, which literally blows you away from second 1. :p- Whats with the MX Haters?
It wouldn't be any good if everyone here agreed on how great everything is they do. Some discussion is important. Myself, I'm a fan especially of the older work. Viva (album) pleased me a lot, but I just don't like the MX direction. Most of the new songs I've heard aren't really my taste and don't compare at all (in my point of view) to any pre-X&Y stuff. Doesn't mean I would do better. :p- Favourite song title on Mylo Xyloto?
Major Minus still does it for me. I also like M.M.I.X. and Up With The Birds. A Hopeful Transmission is cool too. U.F.O, by contrast, sounds really boring and inspirationless to me. On the whole, the titles of the albums suck. MM and ETIAW already live up to their names (respectively great and ugly), let's hope this will not be the case for most of the album.- Official Tracklist!!!
Even though I expected it, I'm still disappointed ETIAW made it. Especially since it's right in the middle, and if the transitions are good, it will be really hard to leave it out, and it will also kill the authenticity of the album if I leave it out. Glad MM is on it, hopefully a remixed version, who knows. Still hate the artwork, especially the font and the combination of the two, but oh well. And DLIBYH. Ughh. How can they do this? I can't help thinking "what happened to Coldplay?" Are they becoming a boys band? It actually does break my heart (even though I announced before that it wouldn't). I'll be ashamed again to announce that I am a fan. But whatever, let's wait until we can actually hear it. I already accepted the fact that I possibly won't like it at all. And I can't deny the massive amounts of work the boys will have put into it, no matter how much I will dislike it. PS I love the icons that represent the tracks. Love the U.F.O. one, if you look at it as if it's a smiley face.- DLIBYH
I'd say don't let it break your heart.- Paradise Listening Party - 7:50 A.M UK Time (Real time CHATROOM embedded in first post!)
There's a good chance I won't be able to hear it then. Oh well.- DLIBYH
Maybe it helps if you see this negativity simply as (constructive) criticism. If everyone on Coldplaying loved everything about Coldplay and what they do, there wouldn't be anything to discuss. Only the "Post pictures of the gorgeous/handsome Chris/Guy"-like threads would still exist. :p- DLIBYH
^ (except first three sentences of second paragraph) and ^^ Yes! Totally true.- Paradise and 9/11
Yes, they did Politik. But I don't think Paradise will be a tribute. Even though people are still sobbing ten years later, the message won't be as relevant. I think Paradise release is just a coincidence.- DLIBYH
It could still be a great song, especially with Jonny shining. If they'd made titles like this before, Yellow would be You Know I Love You So, Shiver would be I'll Always Be Waiting For You, The Scientist (brilliant song and title!) would be Take Me Back To The Start, Violet Hill would be If You Love Me Won't You Let Me Know, etc.- Paradise and 9/11
It was actually 10 years ago. And because life goes on, yes. Awfully sorry for those who died and their relatives. But if a single named Paradise can't be released 10 years and a day after a tragedy, then what is still allowed? Right now there are hundreds of thousands of people dying in East Africa, which is more actual and even worse than 9/11 (other than the latter causing a new world order and general Western paranoia on top of it). Should the single Paradise be trashed because it's inappropriate?- DLIBYH
So she practically confirms it will be Don't Let It Break Your Heart. Sad story. - Moving to Mars vs Up In Flames
