  1. Now the title sounds cringy, but hear me out. When someone thinks of the Coldplay sound, and I'm not talking about the supposed "haters" who say Coldplay has no sound or its way too mellow or whatever, what are they talking about? We all know Coldplay isn't the most original band ever, and that's fine, no band is ever truly original imo. But what is Coldplay's trademark sound? The thing is that Coldplay changes its sound so much, that its hard to pick the common multiple of every album. I think we can all agree though, if one thinks about it enough, the trademark sound isn't a sound at all. It is the accessibility of the sound that makes Coldplay, Coldplay and not Radiohead or U2 or whatever the people compare Coldplay too. Coldplay beats those bands when it comes to going straight to the people and saying this is for you. And critics have learned to hate it. Ghost Stories is unarguably about a breakup. Every song we've heard is about a break up. Even the lyrics of ASFOS has break up stuff in it. Coldplay hasn't really done this type of personal album before. They've done concept albums, but this really isn't a concept album is it? And people connect to break ups and personal, real things. Its why break up albums like Red and 21 are so popular. So do you guys agree with me thinking that this will be the most accessible/Coldplay-ish Coldplay album to date? And with that, perhaps, potentially the biggest album they might ever release because of that fact. Maybe today's gotten me too hyped, but I think this might sell more then Viva or even X&Y did.
  2. i really see them releasing something next monday to bridge to gap between now and ASFOS. Another's Arms or Oceans I think.
  3. IM GOING TO LOVE THIS ALBUM TO DEATH

Atlas is a good example of what I see LP7 being like, but with a little more rock tone in it.
  5. Kingzilla replied to Wilson's topic in Coldplay
LP7, if next year, will be the album we've all been waiting for. A return to A Rush-styled guitar/piano rock with a modern twist. But it makes sense now that they are exploring a darker spectrum with electronics. Since most of the songs on the next album would have been written around the same time as GS, it probably has a relatively dark tone, though not as sad as this one is. Either that, or they turn into a full on electronic-rock band and do something else, but I seriously doubt it. I mean, I myself, would listen to it, but it's time to take a step back after you've made full progression. Some fans have a problem with them doing that, but many of the great prog rock bands did that- The Beatles (aka founder of prog) did it in White Album/Let it Be, Queen in The Miracle, Radiohead with In Rainbows (this one is a bit sketchy since Radiohead probably will never go back to Bends era). Coldplay will never do another A Rush, or Parachutes, but the style and tone can and will be sampled again because its full circle.
  6. SO MUCH HYPE Realistically, from what I've heard from people that have heard the album, this won't beat AROBTTH. Every song, even A Whisper, has an edge to it that reminds me of a young man graduating from university - someone ready to take on the world. Today, does Coldplay have that same edge? I don't think so. Midnight was great, but that was one song. Always in My Head sounds like a classic, Magic was good, ASFOS at best will be a classic and at worst another Paradise, and Another Arms is mediocre. So unless the studio does miracles with Another Arms, it will the album's lame track (i know some people like the song, but the is imo). At that point, the album is up to songs like Ink, O, and True Love. If those songs can compare to GPASUYF, Fix You, Strawberry Swings, and Charlie Brown (all minor hit/classics) then the album has potential to take the throne. But my guess that True Love will be a decent song, but slow the album down a lot. It'll end up being probably just behind Viva, so 3rd, above Parachutes. I hope i'm wrong.

Probably. But Trouble or Shiver>Yellow for me.
  8. Kingzilla replied to Wilson's topic in Coldplay
Midnight over Yellow. Yellow has its moments, but its been overplayed. Coldplay has many better songs, even from Parachutes.
  9. Wow, midnight going up in the charts. Unexpected.
  10. Kingzilla replied to Wilson's topic in Coldplay
Someone made it the title of LP6's wiki page.
  11. I think it all depends on ASFOS. If it is that good, like Viva La Vida good, then it will sell a lot. Look at Magic, a decent pop song that ran up the charts in the 10-20 range. If Coldplay has a few more of those and a big one, expect Viva and A Rush numbers.
  12. As long as they dont have PoC in there, ill be happy.
  13. Someone is going to record it off the radio or record it. That's my opinion at least.
  14. 1. Always in My Head 9.5/10 Always in My Head has the sort of impact that Amsterdam has. Subtle guitar and a beautiful melody uplift it and the lyrics are heartfelt. "And so my mouth waters to be fed/ You're always in my head." And I can only imagine the studio version is going to be amazing. Personally, I think this has the potential be #2 on my best album openers. 2. Midnight 7/10 Midnight was an instant love for me. The subtle (thats a key word here) beat and the dark swirls of Chris' voice reminds me Everything is in it's Right Place by Radiohead. Perfect production, though I wish there was a bit more going on or one more verse. That said, obviously thats just because I love the emotion in Chris' voice. 3. Magic 6.5/10 Oh, magic. I loved the song when I first listened to it. And then I didn't mind it the second time. And the process repeated it self over and over again until I decided it was good. And that is what it is. Better than okay, worse than great. It's missing the impactful, heartfelt that makes Coldplay Coldplay. Even the worse MX stuff had that. With that said, the production was amazing and the chorus is flat out perfect. The verses are what kill me. Once the middle eight starts, the song redeems itself and for me, its on repeat a lot. 4. Another's Arms 4/10 I liked this song when I heard it first, but that was then and this is now. It sucks. And I mean the one live performance I listened too. It may be a 5/10 or even 6/10. Maybe even more. But that performance was blah. I blame the song, not the band because they were killer the whole concert but this one song. I personally dont mind the angel voice sample, but the lyrics are just crap. Jonny saves the song, but seriously, give me Paradise or ETDIAWF over this. However, comparing this to PoC, this rocks.

I think the article may be speaking about the ratings. Rolling stone have it 3/5 and I know others have it 3.5/5 and other okay score . I think a better way to say it is mixed to positive ratings.
  16. I cant say if its real, but I am quite confident that any leaks will not be on youtube.
  17. u should have not even said it was a joke :P
  18. Kingzilla replied to thetelephoneline's topic in Magic
They'l probably release it mid april, early May.
  19. I'd be jumping up and down in joy if they did
  20. Kingzilla replied to ihaveabono's topic in Magic
Magic may not get far into the charts, but it sure lingers :D
  21. Actually it was mentioned in the live forum in one of the threads of the sony gigs. The person mentioned that the sound didn't really reminded him of much, but it probably was apart of O (Reprise) or O (part 2).
  22. The lyrics are really heartfelt, simple, but really impactful. Magic's lyrics were decent, but if the rest of the album has the same quality as AiMH, then this will be an amazing album.
  23. Apparently when I was like 5 back in 2003, I used to love Clocks. I'd like nod my head to it and attempt to sing the words. I can't say that it was the first Coldplay I heard, but I think I foreshadowed the future, since I never followed coldplay until like the summer of 2012.
  24. I think they will use AiMH cause it is short and it can open up to Politik or Charlie Brown. I doubt they will change it because it isnt bombastic, especially if they made an album that chill as it seems. That said, they could change it to a bigger song on the album. I really dont see them opening with a song that isn't on the new album.
