  1. This is totally Game of Thrones stuff. Three references: I'm a real bastard=Jon Snow, Tageryan, Red Wedding. No doubt at this point since a bunch of cast members of GoT just joined the show. Cool to see the boys having some fun! haha must be taking a break from AHFOD in the studio! I can't wait to hear these if they are ever released!
  2. WTF? Rastafarianism is this really bizarre jamaican religion and then Game of Thrones references??? Hahaha super strange. I could totally see some of these being for this summers NBC "Red Nose" comedy show.
  3. ^I totally agree. At first, I though Ghost Stories was a bland title until I heard it and it all kind of made sense!! AHFOD is the same. I think the title is too cheesy like everyone else, but we haven't seen the cover art or heard a single. I am sure that will change all of our minds really quickly, and after some time, the title will feel just right. I especially think that if these "dreams" are not just optimistic, idealistic dreams, and have some weird dreams, nightmares, etc in the mix, then the title will completely take on another meaning (which is what i am hoping for.)
  4. My favorite song of 2015 so far. Absolutely incredible. Can't wait for the new album by these guys. If y'all love Anthemic Rock music with a modern punk vibe then please check out Titus Andronicus. Amazing. [video=youtube;0dX6LL7b8Y0]
  5. Just listened to the new album and extremely disappointed. There are some really solid tracks but for the most part I had a hard time paying attention...really dull rock and roll formula. Most tracks felt like formulaic filler. I am a big fan of these fella's first few albums and their energy. I love actual folk and bluegrass, and I think they represented the genre decently in the pop world, but this new album sounds like The National and Arcade Fire without any grit or creativity. Blech. It just sounds like their last two records with electric instruments and half the soul. Really like some tracks though, don't want to take it all away from them, but surprised that it is getting positive reviews across the board.
  6. X&Y Is a fantastic album but I mostly think of it as a great Coldplay playlist rather than a record. I don't know why. There is just a strange diversity of tracks on it from hard hitting alt-rock (Square One, Low, White Shadows) to straight up pop explosions (Swallowed by the Sea, Speed of Sound) and of course some spacey symphonic ballads and some oddballs. I love the whole feel of the album but overall it doesn't flow very well and sometimes Chris' lyrics get incredibly annoying for how mopey and cliche they are. Still a great era though As for Lp7, I really don't know anymore. I am still convinced it will be quite electronic and probably pretty poppy, but I don't think we should fret. I think MX and GS are a little too sugary in some ways, but I think we should remember how great they are in their own right. AHFOD could be the same way. Sure we have tracks like ASFOS or Paradise that are maybe just a tad too radio friendly, but I consider tracks like MX/Hurts Like Heaven, Magic, Major Minus, DLIBYH, Another's Arms, Oceans to be all really great tracks with strong alternative leanings. I always say this, but AHFOD will most likely be a mix. We might get one hard hitting rock song but then we also might get something written for Top 40. Just the way Coldplay has always been, the only difference being that their "pop" songs have gotten a whole lot more "pop" and less "pop-rock."
  7. I really like this cover, except for the vocalist haha. Love the guitar/synth/piano work. I would love to see Coldplay take cues from Post-rock and elements of black metal, personally.
  8. GS has a lot of chartest tendencies in my opinion. Even if a song is alternative leaning, Magic, Ink, True Love and ASFOS are all very poppy. If Coldplay decided to release these singles more spread out, like Maroon 5 does with their album singles (like over a year,) then I think all would have enjoyed airtime. They are simply really catchy and accessible songs. Even the other tracks are really accessible: O, Oceans, AIMH, AA, but they are just not happy enough or structured as well for radio. I know this isn't the best thread to say it, but with the three singles i have heard so far, I don't think Mumford and Sons has changed really at all. Sure, there are electric guitars and some live drums, but the themes of their songs, the chord progressions, the structures, everything is the exact same. It is still about love, still anthemic, still folky, just electric. Believe though is certainly an example of them taking cues from Coldplay.

^It will be and it won't be. Coldplay I think does a great job at making each album really unique (within their own discography.) I think their taste in music is always evolving drastically and that is why GS compared to an album like VLV is really shocking. I love this about them. Who would have ever though they would actually release a masterpiece like Midnight or a sexy groove like Magic back in the VLV era?? Undoubtedly there are going to be some surprising sounds and influences on LP7. At the same time though, six albums in, Coldplay consistently makes music with good pop sensibility and with similar themes: love, really tame rebellion, acceptance, introspection etc. Chris will always have some great piano, Jonny will always create nice atmosphere. So I expect LP7 will fit just right in. At the end of the day, we will be saying "Is Jonny playing a kazoo on that track?" and "There's that nice 4/4 rhythm Coldplay does so well!"
  10. ^That would be amazing, though, I don't see Aphex Twin ever working with anyone, especially the biggest band in the world haha. I had yet another dream that AHFOD was surprised released like really soon and the album cover was this bizarre yellow backed painting/drawing with an outline of a head and all of these strange characters that looked like they were out of a van gogh/picasso painting. It almost looked like a cover for a detective book. Also, if you are familiar with the latest Father John Misty record, the cover in my dream was very reminiscent of that style. Unfortunately I woke up before I could listen, This has been my third dream about the albums release...sorry. Had to share just in case I end up being right thereby confirming my future predicting abilities. :o

^ Yeah, it is great to be sentimental and reminisce on the past, but one day we will be reminiscing on MX and GS and missing the sounds and sights of those eras! I would say that my greatest hope is that somewhere there is a vault filled with demos, instrumentals, and B-sides and Coldplay decides to release them all one day. I am really excited to see where out new era takes us, but having some throwback sounds would be really reassuring to a Coldplay fine who is more fond of their work in the 2000's!

^ I also have a problem with his voice during the GS era in particular. For me, it actually made songs like Oceans, True Love, O and Ghost Story a bit less enjoyable. I think his voice used to be a lot more fresh and raw and emotive. Think of the Scientist, Shiver, Speed of Sound or on the VLV album. He delivers those lyrics in all sorts of registers, using falsetto relatively sparingly to makes it stand out a lot more. Not only was his falsetto perfect, but it was really emotional. I would even argue that on MX his falsetto was evened out with unique production to keep it fresh. On GS however, the production focused a lot on the purity of his voice in vapid sonic spaces and he seemed to really love that Falsetto. He pretty much stays in the same high register for all of True Love and Oceans and even O, which comes off to me as super overdone and kind of unattractive--especially on True Love! I am in love the instrumental on Ghost Story, but when he does that "...disappear!!!!!!!!!!" it is just way too much... Chris has a wonderful voice with a lot of interesting ranges. I love his falsetto moments, but I think that it is best used sparingly. Overall Chris disappointed me vocally on GS because of his falsetto and seemingly lack of the emotion. O should make me cry but honestly his performance in the studio doesn't convince me. I really hope we get some interesting, fresh, and old-style vocal performances on LP7
  13. hmmm. wonder if somebody is going to slip up prior to June 1st. That is a ways away.
  14. ^could be.. that would be interesting. Maybe Coldplay and Rihanna? Coldplay and U2?
  15. I was kind of pondering this idea of "ahead full of dreams" when we got the announcement late last year too. I honestly like more than the A Head Full Of Dreams but I think that is probably here to stay... Also the title of that blog post by rik simpson kind of reinforced the title.
  16. Judging by the artwork of every album thus far, I don't think they will let us down. The boys have good taste. It is always takes time to get used to though. I wasn't a big fan of Ghost Stories' cover at first but really opened up to it and absolutely love the intricate yet holistic nature of it all. Works great. But yeah, they won't let us down. Six albums in they got a good record of having consistently awesome covers :)
  17. yeah those look like the hills up above Malibu maybe. Strings and Horns ay? That is exciting news! As for that hat...yeah it is a little strange he chooses to wear that thing everytime he is photographed...it is a cool hat, but I certainly hope it has nothing to do with the album cover. Haha, that would look absolutely ridiculous.
  18. All time Faves SO HARD TO CHOOSE Radiohead Arcade Fire Red Hot Chili Peppers Sigur Ros The Avett Brothers Kanye West My Chemical Romance Modest Mouse Violent Femmes, Sufjan Stevens Now Kendrick Lamar, The Cure, Led Zeppelin, The Radio Dept, Alt-J, Shakey Graves, The Clash, Spoon, Titus Andronicus
  19. If Coldplay announce they are playing then that means we are getting LP7 way sooner than expected. They wouldn't play Glasto without some new big tracks imo. That would make it a similar release to MX maybe. If not then I bet we won't be getting new music until near the end of the year. So.....In short.... I REALLY HOPE THEY ARE PLAYING GLASTO THIS YEAR!!
  20. This would also be one of my top questions for them. So much great music to listen to! I hope we figure out what has influenced them during the current recording process.
  21. Also...since we were debating why Phil posted that "Power of 10" video last week which opens with that floating pyramid.... Seems like a hint at the pyramid stage. Should have guessed that one..
  22. Edit- For some reason I though the Headliners were already booked but I didn't realize Sunday still needed its big climactic act! Totally could be Coldplay at Glasto this year! We will know very soon. Sorry :) should have done my research
  23. ^How though? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh
  24. This is a good point. Coldplay pretty much has covered almost every color palette and possibility. And as much as I would love a double record, their skill at making one cohesive, well themed package with their last few records has been great. I would still like to see a ton of extra releases though in addition to the album. Either way, I sort of hope we get some looks at how the album is going to visually as a hint. I feel like the artwork of Coldplay singles and albums go a long way in telling you how they are going to sound.
  25. Western Montana where I reside :) :) . Or The Gorge in Idaho (which they visited in 2009.) Anywhere that is within 300 miles of me please.......Never seen them and probably won't if they keep hitting only big locales.
