Oxfam yesterday announced plans to channel the spirit of last year's Live 8 concerts into a month-long event which is in many ways its polar opposite. In contrast to the enormous gigs of last summer, the charity unveiled Oxjam, the umbrella title for thousands of small-scale gigs and events across the country. Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Goldfrapp, Magic Numbers and the Automatic have signed up. The charity is in talks with dozens of other acts to perform alongside local bands in community halls and back gardens as well as at established venues. Oxfam, which has been supported by Coldplay and other big names in its Make Trade Fair campaign, hopes ordinary people…

Now, I know we are all Brit rock hipsters on this board, but I am unfortunately someone who embraces all manners and forms of music, even if it is incredibly embarrassing...! Anyways, I am just wondering if anyone else is a country fan? Now, I'm not talking so much like Brooks and Dunn country, but more like Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and Dixie Chicks fans...or Johnny cash if we want to be trendy... If anyone is, please spread the love! Le me know about any good bands, because I am just a lonely urban girl in Montreal (apparently, the NEW Seattle) who loves country music and feels the need to hide it from her friends lest they start barring her from going to Bloc P…

i'm mainly making this thread because i wondered where you guys get your tickets for gigs and shows from? If you buy them off the net, where's the best sites to go to and of course, the cheapest? i've looked around and noticed some sites like to rip you off for 'Transaction Service Fees'. any help would be much appreciated!

  11. http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28896 Speculation is mounting that four concerts planned for the new Wembley Stadium will have to be held elsewhere. American rock band Bon Jovi were due to play the stadium on June 10, with Take That, Robbie Williams and the Rolling Stones set to follow during the summer. But severe delays which have already forced the Football Association to move the May 13 Cup Final to Cardiff, appear to be affecting the musicians as well, BBC News has reported. Multiplex, the firm building the national stadium, intends to give a progress update on Friday.

Obviously its impossible to have seen every act today, unless you somehow taped all 9 long concerts and watched each one :stunned: But how much of your day did you spend watching it? I didnt watch the first hour-ish and then watched it non-stop as much as I could (By switching through the different BBC interactive channels as well as AOL). I became live8 freak, for like what, 8, 10 hours? Time is irrelevant! Very entertaining day of music. I'd say about 90%.

  20. And concentrate on albums... Cult indie label Fierce Panda is to stop releasing its legendary 7” singles this summer. The label has helped launch the careers of a plethora of top bands with its one off single releases including the likes of Coldplay and Keane. Other bands that have featured on its books include iLiKETRAiNS, Art Brut, Battle, Shitdisco and Boy Kill Boy. According to the BBC founder Simon Williams says that the label now wants to concentrate on albums and developing the company further. The final release will be Dead Disco’s ‘Automatic’ on August 14. 21. Watch out, summer concertgoers. Some in the industry say the end is near. Once Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, The Who, Eric Clapton and their '60s rock contemporaries hang up their guitars and stop touring, the industry will collapse because, as one concert promoter recently told The New York Times, "We will run out of headliners." Give me a break. That's the kind of "the world begins and ends with me" narcissism generally associated with teenagers, not savvy businessmen. Yes, the concert industry has problems. Droves of music fans stayed away from music venues in 2004, leading to canceled tours and lots of empty seats, and the $2.6-billion industry hasn't full…

  22. Legendary The Beatles recording studio Abbey Road could be refused permission to host live gigs after complaints from disgruntled neighbours. The venue came under fire in February after holding an "illegal" Coldplay show which was later broadcast on BBC radio. As a result, the London studio was told to apply for a live performance licence which would allow it permission for gigs, as well as the sale of alcohol, from 10am to midnight. But the proposal has infuriated local residents who have formed a 60-strong opposition group, the St John's Wood Society. Andrew Mainz, chairman of the group, says, "At the moment this is a music recording studio. If it's going to turn …
