Doctor Who ???......

Featured Replies

Dr. Who is like Lost, the writers can basically do whatever the fuck they want without reason or logic, which is why I hate shows like that.

Oh shut the fuck up and go watch something "realistic" then. I don't think what you said is true at all anyway, they get plenty of backlash.

I can't believe how much I loved this new season opener.

Matt Smith is absolutely brilliant.

Steven Moffat is a MUCH better writer than Russell T Davies as well.

Me neither! I absolutely loved it!

He's definitely The Doctor. Cute, funny and quite bonkers! :D

Absolutely.

Why do people ever bother telling me to shut up?

I don't watch it, I've watched it, and I hear people talking about it a lot. The show may get backlash but because there's absolutely no basic grounding for the context the writers can always fall back on shrugging their shoulders and saying; "Meh, it all makes sense though guys". But just because I don't like your precious program's doesn't mean I can't appreciate other fiction, dweebie fanboy!

It was "they can just do whatever they want" that annoyed me, nothing more. Heard that so many times about Lost, pisses me off cos it's so far from the truth. I've never been this excited about Doctor Who in my life, in fact I stopped watching during Tennant. So it's not like I'm spitting my dummy out at you not liking it, just the ignorance that the writers just go along being ridiculous.

Eh, you could very well be right, I don't have enough experience of watching either show to be sure that I'm not ignorant to the subtleties of the writing, but when I do watch bits of it here and there, it's like "Oh fuck what are they doing now".

However, I don't see how you can disagree that they can do whatever they want, Dr. Who can be anything in any space or time or location, Lost can dream up whatever the hell they want to happen on that island. The quality and relevance of the writing from there is up to opinion (And being fair, yours more relevant then mine) but there's still as much leeway as a writer could ever need in terms of possibilities for those 2 shows.

Goober! Hahahahahaha.

Well I don't really know, I've only seen some clips, he's a pretty terrible actor and looks wacky as fuck. Also seems like a nervous kinda guy.

I loved this episode! It was rather different from the other episodes, but in a good way. It was hilarious and creepy at the same time.

I can understand your viewpoint, I can. But it's just the way it was worded seemed like an insult to the writers, that's all. So it's not so much that I disagree that they have a lot of freedom (although I don't see why, in the right hands, this is a bad thing at all), but more I was defending the writers and their talents. Lost has been planned out pretty much from the start to a certain extent and your comment made me feel like you were saying they just made it up as they went along. I'm just a massive Lost fanboy though, haha.

Yeah it was an insult towards the writers, you may have noticed how much I hate Lost and Dr. Who, so we'll never agree on that. I don't know if they made it up as they go along, I don't really care, there's no difference between making up shit plots as you go along or planning out shit plots that piece together in a really shit and tedious way.

I thought it was quite good, he will be ok as the Dr, his new companion's good too, and pretty.

So what's the point in going on about it? It's just that you don't like them, nothing to do with any particular freedom or anything,

I wasn't really going on about it, you asked me what I was talking about, and I thought we agreed that they do have a lot of freedom to write whatever they want. In my opinion it's like giving them a licence to make up any old shit they want, in your opinion they write good scripts and just happen to have a lot of freedom.

No, I accept that giving the wrong person too much freedom is a bad idea, that's pretty evident with some of the episodes in the last series of Doctor Who and the 2nd Star Wars Trilogy. But Moffat is awesome, and Lindelof and Cuse know what they are doing with Lost too, so I just take exception to it.

We pretty much agree, just have different tastes :nice:

I thought Matt Smith was fantastic, I wouldn't go as far as to say that he will be my fave doctor, not yet anyway!, I even like amy, and in the past I haven't been such a fan of the companions, inparticular Rose, I hated her, Martha I just wanted to slap her for the screaming she did, and Donna was ok most of the time, but amy isn't all that bad, but being the first ep, anything can happen from now on, I love what Moffat is up too with the show, though wasn't so keen on the Kiss-a-gram job for amy, and not so keen on the theme music, but if thats all thats wrong (in my opinion) of the new series and new era, then thats not such a bad thing is it?

I totally agree. From what I've seen so far, Matt's "goofy eccentricity" is going to work well.

Thankfully the drama is continuing to outweigh the comedy, and I hope this continues.

I also think Amy is going to make a great "companion", unlike Donna, who almost single-handedly turned Dr. Who into a "farce".:dozey:

i'm looking forward to seeing Alex Kingston return as River Song again (based on the "Coming Soon" sneak peak). :D

& it looks like this particular doctor doesn't have a problem firing a gun...perhaps a sign of a darker tone for the series in general? i'm thinking they may be going for a balance between the darker 9th doctor & the hyper/mad 10th doctor.

Matt Smith was also quite alright. i just still haven't quite warmed up to him as the doctor tho. oh, well...it did take me a while to get hooked on Tennant initially.

So what did you make of the new doctor?
He will do just fine. :D Also now have a mega girl-crush on Amy. She's awesome.

Favorite line: "...strange box comes crashing out of the sky, strange man comes out of box, strange man eats fish custard. That didn't scare you at all... So you know what I'm thinking?...That must be a hell of a scary crack in your wall."

Hmm... did anyone else notice that the door on Amy's house is very Tardis-like?

The whole show is retardis :wiseguy:

'k sry i go now :disappointed:

I'd already used that one some time back.

Good try, though.:P

Seeing as it's a pun, of course you've already done it. Nearly 60,000 posts which purely consist of puns. Christ.

Christ.

I'm not sure I've ever used that one, though..........................
