U2

Featured Replies

Well. U2 is my favorite band right next to Coldplay. I decided I would personally resurect this thread for healthy U2 discussions. Keeping Coldplay out would be nice, no offense to them. But it shouldn't be a comparison thread.

Anyways. Anyone going to catch them during their next couple American legs? I'm seeing them at the Fleet (Tha Gaaaahden, I mean LOL) December 4th, and Hartford December 7th. Also trying to score GA tickets for one of the 2 October shows in Boston.

Has anybody been in the "pit" yet?

*tries to get a ball rolling because I'm currently in my Rabid U2 Mode, or, as I like to abrieviate it "RUM" and dying to talk to other fans*

man, I'm goin to the show at the ACC in less than 20 days, I'm so psyched about it, and then I'm seeing Pearl Jam two days after that!

I can't believe it's the second leg of the tour already!!

I'm jealous of you, Jacob, I've got 3 months to go! (Unless October works out.) Are your seats decent? My December 4th ones are first row right next to Edge's half of the stage and the cat walk. I'm so excited!!!

awsome thread! u2 !!!!!!!Yay! :D

sadly, im not, the tickets sold out too fast!

I saw them both nights in Manchester in June, stunning, stunningly good, lost for words - really are the best ever in my book - I'll upload you another show and some rarities in the next day or two.

About Manchester, was queued from 9am both days so was on the railing at the front for both. The atmosphere and performance were so much better on the second night, but that isn't to say the first was bad, merely that the second was the best show I've ever been witness to.

:stunned:

U2 is an amazing band.

Ive got a friend who is U2 fanatic, and im Coldplay crazy! we talk and argue lots beacuse he says U2 is the best band out there (which I agree with), but he doesnt think Coldplay will ever surpass U2.

what do you think? any opinions?

let me know, id love to discuss more. thanks, cheers.

well i mean U2 were definitley better back in the ole days but they still put on a good show as do coldplay

I think they are natural successors, if there is such a thing, but their next album must be different to X&Y

well i mean U2 were definitley better back in the ole days but they still put on a good show as do coldplay

when i said U2 were better in the ole days i meant that they were better than they are now, i wasnt really comparing them to coldplay, because both bands are amazing

I saw U2 in Croke Park. On the 25th June! :D It was sooo good! :stunned:

totally agreed with U2 being unstoppable back in the day. But actually lots of people (that know every u2 song) have claimed that 'How to dismantle an atomic bomb' is their best or among their best.

So yeah, i dunno. Ive never had the chance to see them live and i hope i can, but i think they're nearing the end o their successful years as u2.

my opinion, coldplay WILL become the best band of their era :) no question about it. I think their biggest challenge is keeping up their amazing talent. Only 3 albums and they're already a hugely succesfull band.

Bands like U2 or Coldplay would not exist as they do if it wasn't for must artist before them. Maybe they would exist with a different style from a different influence, which would give us a different sound and lyrics. But if you look deeply into music before them. They are very much a link in a chain that started back with Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and other folk and country singers. Some of you may be to young and won't recall much of the music before U2 and Coldplay. But some of you older people out there may recall Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan.

The link I clearly see is Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, U2 and now Coldplay being the new part of that chain. Interesting enough some of U2 albums were produced by the same producer as some of Bob Dylan's albums. A Canadian music producer out of Montreal by the name of Daniel Lanois.

Every U2 fan or Coldplay fan has to face the fact that they were influenced by music before their fame. And if they take the time to listen and learn about those old artist that influenced them. You will learn allot about life and why you are interested in these bands in the first place.

I know that, Coldplay and U2 both no that, U2 have often referenced their influences by snippeting songs or by full live covers, they've covered, amongst many others, All Along The Watchtower (Dylan), Satellite Of Love, Take A Walk On The Wild Side (Lou Reed) and Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who), Stones songs such as Sympathy For The Devil and Ruby Tuesday and The Beatles' Norweigan Wood, Helter Skelter & Help, often making reference to the influence those artists have had over them. Probably in quite a similar way to the way that Coldplay are covering Ring Of Fire at the moment.

Favourite album is The Joshua Tree. I know, cliche, but there's a reason as to why its so highly rated and the best legacy of that is the fact that they still consistently use 5 or 6 songs from that one album in their live set, even the non singles such as Running To Stand Still and Bullet The Blue Sky.

my sister got their best of- with or without you beautiful

but my fav is sunday bloody sunday
