August 11, 201015 yr the thread goes quite for a little while someone makes a genuine post, analysing the music positively everyone gets excited that we will talk about the music then dejan posts straight after  anyways, thanks briggins. i shall listen to some of the songs again and look at what you have said and see what i feel. Cool. I really liked what Will said in the BBC podcast. Something along the lines of how there is alot of info packed into this album and they aren't really expecting people to just digest it all at once. So sort of recognizing that yes it is a long album and isn't really made to jump out at you right away. But he said something else along the lines of maybe a few years down the road something in We Used To Wait will jump out, blah, blah, blah. I know alot of people don't really care for this album on here, and big Arcade Fire fans at that. But as I've said regarding other bands, it is OK to not like an album. Its good, shows that you won't just accept anything and it pushes the band to keep things fresh. At the same time when I listen to a new album, I try to focus on that album as a whole instead of comparing it to their previous albums. I find when you set those sort of expectations it is easy to be disappointed. What did people expect out of this? Or what did they want? If we just had another Funeral I wouldn't have been too pleased with that.
August 11, 201015 yr At least I'm not dumb since I like it! Also I really don't find Wasted Hours and Deep Blue fillers. They're two of my favourite songs on the album to be honest. I love the stretch of Month of May to Wasted Hours to Deep Blue. Month of May I wasn't a big fan of when the song first came out. But after hearing it in the context of the album I love it. It brings a type of energy not heard in their other songs. Kind of an uncomfortable squirming in your chair type of energy. Wasted Hours is another track I really like. Lyrically I'm a big fan of it. It really does sound like a song wasting hours. Now you may say that is that makes it a filler track right? Not really in my opinion. I think it just really captures that Canadian Singer Songwriter vibe, Neil Young could cover this one. Also enjoy the string arrangement going on in the background of this track. Deep Blue is another track where I love Win's lyrics and the vocal delivery. How it starts with a pretty slow then builds up with the "nah nah nah" lyrics, then drops off again for another verse, then continues to build up gaining momentum as the song goes on. Love the keys that come in here and there. I don't find the song "boring" or "filler" as it continues to have new dynamics thrown in as the song carries on. These are not bad songs at all, to me these songs are filler because are too far from their style...i mean, wasted hours (and the first song of the album) sounds too much like Wilco...a band that i love, but i just don't like to listen to the arcade fire with the wilco's style. These songs are too "country". Month of may is a nice song and Deep Blue maybe will grow on me. But why don't we talk about the best guitar parts of the album ? Here we have some of their best material to date, songs like Suburban War,Halflight 2,Ready to start,Modern Man and City with no children in it are up with their best songs from Funeral and Neon Bible. Think about the guitar chords of Suburban war....or the amazing "in your face" bass of City with no children in it, i fucking love this record!
August 11, 201015 yr ARCADE. FIRE. SRSLY. Edit: yayyyyyy I've still only heard a few songs once. :disappointed:

Personally I don't mind it too much. Especially with such a long album I don't mind the fact they tried out a few different styles on this one. Once again I'm going to pull out the neil young reference here. I love Neil Young. I do prefer his rock and roll stuff to his country stuff....but still have a soft spot for songs like Comes a Time which is very country in contrast to say Hey Hey My My. I think its cool when bands can dable in country or alt-country but not get lost in it and still keep their trademark sound.
August 11, 201015 yr ARCADE. FIRE. SRSLY. Edit: yayyyyyy I've still only heard a few songs once. :disappointed: shhhhhh. we're on topic.
August 11, 201015 yr What? :uhoh: I mean a only a few songs on The Suburbs, by the way. I think this album is almost catchier than the rest in a way from what I've heard. I'm down with that.
August 11, 201015 yr Arcade Fire Hit Number One They did it, folks-- more people bought Arcade Fire's third album, The Suburbs, than any other album in the United States last week. The news comes courtesy of their label, Merge, and label mates Spoon, who Tweeted, "Let the record reflect that Merge Records is the NUMBER ONE LABEL IN THE USA! Here's to Arcade Fire and Merge: #1 -- 156k copies sold." This comes after news of the group triumphing over the UK album charts this week as well, according to Billboard. This is the band's first chart-topping album in the U.S. Their last LP, Neon Bible, debuted at number two. Independent rock music is pretty popular now, apparently!
August 11, 201015 yr And where did I say that again? I don't think anyone was expecting another Funeral, at least I wasn't... I agree Neon Bible is fucking brilliant, but Funeral is even beyond That's what I got from this: At the first listen I didn't remember anything, but after a few listens I pretty much love all the songs! Of course they're not as intense as some Funeral songs, but it doesn't mean they're bad And my main point is, what does it have to do with Funeral? Nobody was mentioning Funeral, and because they're not as good as Funeral doesn't make them bad, it also doesn't make them good. Some of the post wasn't exactly directed at you but generally some AF fans who assume that the only reason people don't like it was because of expectation, but I didn't make that clear. My bad.:\ Rococo isn't as intense as Wake up :uhoh: At least I don't feel that way... I do think they're good, not brilliant, good. But I guess it's a matter of personal taste, and I'm not trying to convince anyone here, I just like it that's all. That's fair enough! I used your post as an example of how some AF fans are reacting to the criticism, and like I said it wasn't completely directed at you personally. For me Rococo isn't as intense in a second by second analysis of the song, because Wake Up starts as huge as a song can start, but Rococo builds up to that intensity. I can understand why anyone wouldn't think that though.
August 11, 201015 yr Well I don't have a problem with people disliking the album, I don't really give a crap tbh, but I also don't think I have to justify WHY I love it if I love it  matter of opinion, can this thread go back to happy now? edit: and i'm not saying that you can't say a bad word about it, just that people shouldn't get pissed off about that cos it doesn't really matter what others think anyways The only person who's getting pissed off and abusive is Dejan, who likes the album, now I'm not saying that everyone who likes the album is being a total dispshit like Dejan, but it's kindof ironic that a pro-Suburbs member is actually doing all the abusing. It's not like anyone's coming in here and going "THIS IS SHIT FUCK YOU ALL", in fact it's just Degan being abusive. And since I just called him a dipshit, possibly me. I do kindof agree that Eddie continually coming in and going "I dont like this" or "I really don't like it though" and not even giving some progressive arguments or opinions would be very frustrating for anyone who loves the album. But I find it funny, so meh, can't complain. EDIT: Clumsy me mis-read the point of your post. Yes, people shouldn't get so pissed off because others don't like it. Fair one. Month of May I wasn't a big fan of when the song first came out. But after hearing it in the context of the album I love it. It brings a type of energy not heard in their other songs. Kind of an uncomfortable squirming in your chair type of energy. Hahaha! Yes I squirmed uncomfortably throughout the entire album, out of sheer embarrassment for this band. But no, on a serious note, I do appreciate more in-depth opinions of why you like the songs, and I will get around to listening to those 3 again with your post in mind (I've listened to it maybe 15 times and a handful of those I was doing nothing else BUT listen to it so I focussed, yet I can only remember Month of May, shows the impact the Suburbs made on me). sounds too much like Wilco...a band that i love, but i just don't like to listen to the arcade fire with the wilco's style. FUCK YOU GTFO!!!
August 12, 201015 yr I do kindof agree that Eddie continually coming in and going "I dont like this" or "I really don't like it though" and not even giving some progressive arguments or opinions would be very frustrating for anyone who loves the album. But I find it funny, so meh, can't complain. :cheesy: I think I keep posting the same thing because I keep listening and trying to like the album. So..uh...sorry if I repeat myself. That Wilco comment is pretty true. But the main thing I don't like about Wilco is their more traditional rock/country/etc sound on a lot of their songs. Which is sadly what I can hear on The Suburbs.
August 12, 201015 yr ^Eddie, I'd suggest putting the album away for a few weeks then coming back to it.
August 12, 201015 yr That's exactly what I plan to do. I should probably not listen to any Arcade Fire for a few weeks... or I'll just be disappointed again
August 12, 201015 yr so just saying i like it better than Funeral right now... but that changes every day
August 12, 201015 yr So yeah, just got back from the atlanta concert. It was fucking awesome. Biggest thing I can think of to report is that they played Ocean of Noise! Something I don't think they've done all tour (I'll have to check), so that was a great surprise. They also played Halflight II AND Empty Room back to back (instead of one or the other) and moved Intervention to the encore, which I thought was a great move. Easily the best concert I've ever been to (though that doesn't say much, considering it's up against coldplay). In the future I won't shout and sing-along to ALL the songs because half-way through my voice was shot and I could only yawp the melody to wake-up. Here's the setlist: Ready To Start Neighborhood #2 (Laika) No Cars Go Haiti Half Light II (No Celebration) Empty Room Keep The Car Running The Suburbs/ The Suburbs (continued) Ocean Of Noise We Used To Wait Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) Rebellion (Lies) Month Of May Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) Encore: Intervention Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Wake Up
August 12, 201015 yr Thats awesome. Well thats the whole point of Arcade Fire shows. Sing along as much as possible and then by Wake Up you just use up all you have left in terms of vocal capacity! And yes I think that is the first time playing Ocean of Noise this tour. At Osheage they did play both Half Light II and Empty Room in the set.
