Yep. I discovered them thanks to Chris mentioning them in X&Y era interviews as an influence (or notably in Toronto 2006 "God gave you style and led you higher/God gave you the music of the Arcade

Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

I finally got my tickets to Arcade Fire. One of the few bands I've always wanted to see but never had the chance.

Very good review, but this made me cringe:

"The album was made to purposely bombard your sense with information that you can get lost in and find new things every listen. This depth and complexity ensures that this album is not just chaff that will be blown away in the wind and forgotten, but rather an album that can continually be explored and yield new discoveries every time. "

It's like saying "If you don't like this you're wrong and need to listen to it another 20 times, and if you still don't like it, repeat".

That's an instinct I have on that comment, because from reading it you probably wouldn't assume that's what it translates to, but it did for me.

^ yeah, I know what you're saying.

Not really what I was getting at. I meant it more in the way that it is one of those albums you can keep listening to and pick up new things with each listen.

Kid A-esque?

You're probably clueless as to what I'm referring to, it's an experimental album from this new indie band called Guns N Roses.

Anywho, yeah my instinct was wrong then- if you mean that once you like it, you can find new things you like about it. My problem was that after a handful of listens I began to really like it, and I thought THAT was going to happen, finding new things to like about it and eventually loving it (Like picking up a cheap whore, high five).

But after another listen to the album, and then another, it really went downhill. The review is written brilliantly, u iz gd @ ritin, and instead of discovering new things to like, I glazed over the entire thing as something to hate.

I think I've said this before but in the same way that I think people who love it would probably think it's average if it was a random band, if it was a random band I'd probably think it's average. But I'm biased as hell because I expected a good album, that being, worse then Neon Bible but still good.

It was a hard album to review. I know that I like it better than it actually is.

For me it is sort of a defining album for stuff that I am going through personally at the moment, and I can really relate to it which has skewed my opinion of it. That made it hard to write.

But yeah, sometimes albums just don't click. Or they do then they don't. Nothing wrong with that.

I don't think I actually contributed anything worthwhile in that post.

^I do that regularly, very few people notice.

I think you like this album because you want to (<<<Opinion so can't be criticised or taken personally<<<).

At the same time, maybe I don't like this album because I don't want to. Originally I did want to like it, but when I realised it was an average run of the mill album, I've vented my thoughts on how I hate it.

Hmmm this opinion is sounding more like an advertisement to find it average and make others feel the same.

For me, there's a lot of cheesy moments on this album, and because its Arcade Fire, a band who I'd trust to be genuine, I really do think they have gone into a style that would never have been something they'd contemplated for their debut. We can talk about the context and style of Suburbs, but to me there's no real heart or soul into most of these songs, and they would be incredibly aware of their target market.

Yeah, it isn't really a topic that is shooting out heart and soul (the suburbs). I think there are some great genuine moments on the album, like in the Suburbs when there is the line about wanting a daughter while still young to show her the world before its too messed up sort of deal. But something like hanging out with modern kids, or shopping malls upon shopping malls, or cities with no children is really hard to put alot of heart and soul behind.

The whole feeling behind it doesn't make you feel that happy inside. Its sort of like "this is the state of the suburbs, i don't like it, but i can't change it, and wouldn't if I could' sort of deal. As a listener it is hard to get anything out of it.

But yes, I also did go into the album really wanting to like it and with high expectations, and I think seeing them live helped with the new songs. Sometimes I find that I can be satisfied with music way to easily. Can be both a good and bad thing.

they didn't say.

so i'm guessing we can watch it whenever?!?!

...hopefully they'll leave it up for good.

Awesome ! And what is even more awesome is that I'll finally be able to see them this november  ! I'm so excited !

Maybe I shouldn't watch this concert on youtube though, you know, to keep some mystery...

Nah, go watch it. It's about a trillion times more awesome and exciting when you're actually seeing them anyway. :nice:

Still working out if I can see them in Germany.. *kicks all of Arcade Fire for not playing a show in Amsterdam* :whip:

Yeah, because Amsterdam is so close and no hassle to get to at all.

Massive Attack are not coming either. Maybe it's cool nowadays to not play in Amsterdam or something. :whip:
