Arcade Fire

Featured Replies

Ok, so now I've been given older songs by the guys from a friend.

She said listening to the Suburbs first thing to get into them was a bad decision haha.

So she gave me some tracks.

Will put them on my mp3 player and listen at work tomorrow! :)

Yep. I discovered them thanks to Chris mentioning them in X&Y era interviews as an influence (or notably in Toronto 2006 "God gave you style and led you higher/God gave you the music of the Arcade

Yeah I got into Coldplay first and then slowly started getting into Arcade Fire. Once I started to realize their similarities and that Coldplay toured with them during the LVL era, it made me become a

Yeah, I followed a path similar to yours. I am a big fan of VLV and MX (the "midplay" era, ahah) and when I discovered that Coldplay mentioned several times AF as an influence during that period, I st

I kinda agree with your friend on this haha

Which tracks did she give you?

You absolutely have to listen to Wake Up, Rebellion and... the whole album actually

Perrine! Hi!

They're 29 tracks in a loose list, but those two are in it. *complete noob*

Going to bed now, good night!

yeah suburbs isn't a good starting point at all lolsters.

in fact I rarely even see in depth positive opinions about the album at all, just fans who almost don't want to sound stupid for loving it.

Sorry Perrine, but the following quote reminds me of what I just said.

Of course they're not as intense as some Funeral songs, but it doesn't mean they're bad

The number one excuse for people defending the album is that those who don't like it were expecting another Funeral, I wasn't, and I didn't even expect another Neon Bible (Which is still brilliant, not as good as Funeral but to me that album is special in music history).

Quite a few of the songs are just as intense as Funeral, for example, Rococo is just as intense as Wake Up. The songs are definitely not as great as the ones on Funeral, but just because they aren't bad, that doesn't make them good, and definitely not brilliant. I can understand why anyone would think it's average, but even "good" is beyond me.

Thanks for writing this. Nothing will beat Funeral.

Just putting my two cents in here....

I don't think the new album is amazing. I think it's very good, and I like it. But it wasn't mind blowing like Funeral or Neon Bible was for me (and yes, I do love Neon Bible, though many seen to dislike it).

Someone said something about filler songs. That I agree with. I'd say Wasted Hours and Deep Blue are definitely fillers. Personally I really like both those songs, but to me they don't fit very well with the rest of the album, and would have been better as b-sides or on an EP or something like that.

The highlights for me are Rococo and Sprawl II. I love those songs. The other songs are very good, with the exception of Modern Man, which I don't like very much (though I'd say it does fit in with the album nicely).

I wish there were more songs that really stuck out to me. There's a chance, of course, that a couple more will, the more times I listen.

There. Good or bad, I think that is the way people should be discussing the album on here. I don't care whether people love it or hate it or are somewhere in the middle. But they (not naming names) shouldn't be using random insults to get a point across. That's clearly not going to be effective.

And where did I say that again?

I don't think anyone was expecting another Funeral, at least I wasn't...

I agree Neon Bible is fucking brilliant, but Funeral is even beyond

Rococo isn't as intense as Wake up :uhoh: At least I don't feel that way...

I do think they're good, not brilliant, good. But I guess it's a matter of personal taste, and I'm not trying to convince anyone here, I just like it that's all.

Personally I don't want to compare this record with the previous ones, because I think it's just a natural progression of the band's sound. But I can say that is not inferior

Well, you can't please them all.

I personally like the album AND NZ :P

Not if I put the album somewhere colder than NZ!

Sorry.

Nah, a bit too much icy nothing-ness for my liking. I like snow, but not that much. I like pengiuns though :wacky:

OK this is getting way off topic, haha.
