Glastonbury 2005 - A poor performance?

Featured Replies

Am I alone in saying that Coldplay's performance this year was poor by their standards - riddled with mistakes and off tune notes from Chris and Chris alone? (And I'm not talking only Warning Sign here)

Just got round to listening to Glastonbury mp3s (after watching full gig on telly on Saturday) and I gave up after Low

I never saw it and only heard the Lamacq broadcast of it, but it sounded good to me

Seemed pretty damn good on Saturday night, but i will watch the video again and then judge.

Me too, i have only heard the mp3s so far, but i will watch the performance to judge again later. It sounded good though, and i love how Chris changed some of the lyrics at the end of the songs...

Well, I don't know about them being not up to mark overall as a band... But yeah, I agree Chris did have a lot of off-key / nearly off-key moments :P

But performance-wise apart from his voice (seems to almost be near cracking point half the time :dozey: ), they were solid, especially the rest of the band... I've never seen them so note-perfect before... From what I've seen from the video, they've improved a lot (except Chris) since Live 2003.

I can't decide why they weren't smiling much during the concert though...

a mix doesnt equal missed notes.

yeah he was a little out of tune, but pulled it off none the less

I think it was a good performance. Yes, there was the odd note off here and there but it was WELL within the musical acceptability. I mean chris always sings out of tune notes at some point but I don't ever think of them as bad, they just happen and then they are gone.

I have got the full thing on a DVD as video now and I watched it again yesterday & the only thing that irritated me was the sound of Will's floor tom. It obviously wasn't his fault it was the fault of whoever was responsible for the BBC's output mix - but it just sounded BAD.

I felt that the glasto performance was like watching the marley park gig again (apart from the kylie cover), because nearly everything was exactly the same, even the warning sign cock and the light spinning during yellow :dizzy:

But all in all I think it was a good performance but not to their high standards :)

YES!

Sorry but I thought it would be much much better. As a headlining band you would think they would of had the best show...But I enjoyed the killers, Royksopp and a load others way more

I heard one bad mistake by Chris in Swallowed in the sea...

i was at the front for glasto, it was histeria, i'm still thinking about that performance. yellow just blows me away

Hahaha!

Your opinion, of course! It sounded pretty good to me in the front row! ;)

I honestly heard nothing wrong. It was much better than i expected!

I think anyone who disses their Glasto performance, is blowing nothing out their arse. You guys must be pretty hard to please, as I thought their sound, attitude, and talent ripped through that Saturday night like nothing else. It was funny, as they played in Glasgow the night before Live8 and Mr. Martin blatantly asked the crowd to stop clapping as they were crap, and he kind of done the same thing at Glasto as well, by explaining that they are prone to making mistakes sometimes, albeit, due to nerves, rain or whatever else. I think people like that should be commended for their honesty, and let off because if nothing else, they are the ducks nuts !! Give them a break. I'd love to see all of you people out there headlining Glastonbury and pulling every single aspect of your performance off - to the tee ! Just a thought !

and to this day, i am still dumbfounded by that performance.

exactly!

i was at the front too and it was utterly imense. when i watched the highlights on tv a few weeks ago it wasnt anything like as good. sound quality was crap. but for those who werent actually there it was an amazing gig and chris' voice sounded fantastic. live music on tv never reproduces the performance as highly. I've seen coldplay 9 times and glastonbury was maybe the best ive seen them. It was fantastic.

pretty much centre on the barrier. nearly died having been pushed against the barrier for 12 hours tho! i absolutely loved it tho. the last glastonbury for two years, coldplay and loads of cool people! great combination!

Haha! Exactly where I was, pretty much centre, though one person behind the barrier. I was stuck next to the most awful couple...sort of people who go round with fake tan in their fucking fifties and the wife was singing TERRIBLY in my ear for the whole bloody set...!!! Nearly ruined a good show...thank god I moved a bit halfway through. You in any photos on the internet? I managed to find a picture with my hat, eyebrow and right eye in it... :smug:

i was just sad they didnt play more , but they were def on form that night , i kinda wish they would do yellow with chris on acoustic instead of elecreic though , i had waited from 10 am that day to make sure i was at the very front , it was well worth it

I actually think it was one of their best performances I've seen with video. It was very high-energy and atmospheric, but vocal stuff-ups are just part of the package.
