Things you don't like about X&Y

Featured Replies

Speed of Sound is a great song, and trust me, if it wasn't a single, we'd all be loving this song way more.

Yep, dont want fix you to be released for the same reason.

everything sounds so fluffy - the record has no bite. plus' date=' the one thing that separated Coldplay from every other band until X&Y was EMOTION. There is no emotion on this record.[/quote']

"Till Kingdom Come" has no emotion? "What If", "A Message", and "Fix You" have no emotion? I'm curious: What exactly is your criteria for emotion?

Perhaps you're correct on the lack of 'bite', but the only Coldplay song that I can even think of as having that is "Politik".

things I don't like:

- Fix You, all of it, apart from the fact that I may be in the video. Lyrically, musically and generally naff in my book.

- Most of the album tries to be clever and hypothetical, it feels more planned than natural. This is my biggest gripe.

- Swallowed In The Sea

- My favourite songs all have a blemish of some sort, I don't like the end of Low, the start of Talk and the way Square One and White Shadows both slow down at the end and too many uses of the word Love in A Message.

- Synths

- Did I mention the 'hypothetical questions' aspect.

- 'Ignite your bones'? What's that about?

- No Achtung Baby-esque move towards a rocky approach. I was hoping for a 'One I Love'/'Moses'/'1.36' style album.

I'm afraid I could go on if I was awake, I far prefer the first two.

X&Y lacks emotion compared to the previous two albums. At first I thought it was because I needed to give a few more listens, but it's been a good month now and it's still not capturing me the same way the other two did. I still love it though, just...not as much.

The over-production. I hate how there is synths and strings, and U2-esque guitars in just about every song. The lyrics are crap on some songs too.

You are right. There is emotion... But it's not getting through. Or at least it's not getting the attention it deserves. Too many other things happening in the background and the production doesn't help.

^^thats true :stunned: :/

OH my god I can't read any of this anymore!!!

I think it's a really good album, and I don't think Coldplay needs to be consistant in everything they do, of course the songs aren't exactly like they used to be... and you shouldn't make songs from the past like moses...they evolve and I think it's good... you can't expect everything to stay the same. I love almost all the songs (I hate twisted logic, but I didn't like Whisper, so you're always gonna find something wrong)...

I think you guys are being way too critical and you were expecting AROBTTH no.2...

It's ok if you don't like some parts here and there, but come on, it's a good album. And even if it's not good, it's deffinetly not bad like you're making of it

oh and one last word, i think there's lots of emotion in the songs in this album...

I think the only thing that makes me a bit uncomfortable is how most of the songs sound almost too perfect for me,sometimes feels like it lacks simplicity,I don't want to say overproduced,I can't put my hands on what it is.

But overall I think it's an excellent record, but I can't say that it's my favourite or any of the other records really, because now it seems like each album stands on it's own, they're all different, which is a good thing to me.

Hey chill, everything's cool

I think almost all of us here still think X&Y is a good record (or at least better than a lot of stuff out there)... Evolution's a good thing, we're just nit-picking at some things we thought would sound better if done differently :D

Me for instance... I do genuinely like the record and even love most of it, it's just that I do notice some things, which make the album less enjoyable... This is just the forum for us to air those views... It's not meant to be a "hate thread" per se ;)

I don't like till kingdom come or swallowed in the sea. I'm not exactly sure why. Swallowed in the sea makes me get bored quickly' date=' for some strange reason :snore: . I don't like the start to Square One either.[/quote']

i think the best in this album the star of square one.it is just brilliant

i love everything on the album.it sounds beautiful

from the start of square one until till kindom come last lines.it is beautiful.they worked with it really hard and what they made is really good.i think.

I remembered what kinda bugs me about this album, the lack of piano in it,and What If just doesn't do it,but the thing is I think Johnny makes up for that with his great riffs.:D

I cant find myself enjoying white shadows =/

Yeah, I don't like it neither.

I dislike it mostly for the last part when there's quite organ sound with Chris singing.

Anyone else gets kinda mixed up between Square One and White Shadows if you're not paying good attention?

Actually the piano's everywhere... Listen closely, most of the songs have it :wink3: But yeah, the fact that most times it's relegated to the background and doesn't stand out bothers me

Yeah I know,I didn't make clearer ,because I meant what you said piano parts like Amsterdam,The Scientist,Trouble,Politik, etc.
