Hehe, so far I had like four German lectures and it's been going well. Though it's gotten tougher now with all those dies, ders, dems, dens.. etc that I have to memorise, ahh! :dizzy2:

The comforting thing so far though is that the pronunciation and spelling isn't that all hard. And thank God for English for that. Still it's cool the way you guys pronounce things! My favourite word is Hausaufgabe hehe. I love saying it. But man do I get a lot of Hausaufgaben (Plural is with en! :D) that I have to do! :sad:

 

Oh and what I found quite strange is the fact that I have to capitalise the first letter in all the nouns! If I ever had to a presentation or write an essay it would just seem impossible to capitalise them all man! Hehe

 

Soo, random things I've learnt so far:

Wie geht's?, Wie heisBt du?, Woher kommst du? Gut, danke. Ich komme aus Jordanien, Wo wohnst du? Ich wohne in Amman, Mein Vorname ist Lana...

It must be so hard for other people to learn German. I have nothing but respect for people who are trying to learn my mother tongue, because it is really a difficult language especially compared to English.

 

You'll find lots of words who are familiar with English though like

house = das Haus

school = die Schule

or

kindergarten = der Kindergarten. :)

 

But be aware of the so called "false friends words" like the word "gift". In English it's another word for a "present" while "das Gift" in German means poison.

 

Your few words are all correct, except the second one. It's called "Wie heißt du?" but you probably didn't learn the umlauts (ä,ö,ü) and ß so far. ;)

The hardest so far is, like I'd said, memorising which nouns come with die, das or der before them. How do you even get to learn them?! They have no rule nor anything. :sad:

Guess I'd have to work harder on this particular baffle.

 

But I'm very much enjoying learning German. Such a cool language! :D

It's a bit strange to know the difference between "ss" and "ß" especially after the "new" spelling reform of 1996. I hope your teacher will teach you the new spelling reform as this is the one which seems to be more understandable for you. :)

Well I can imagine that it's hard for you to memorise which nouns come with der, die or das before them. I had the same problems while learning French and Spanish. :P There are indeed some rules, but I'm not quite sure about them. I remember one of them...

 

... All words ending with -keit are female so therefore you have to chose "die".

-> die Einsamkeit (loneliness), die Heiterkeit (cheeriness)

 

But I think there are indeed some exceptional cases... :dozey:

Hey! Another one who is learning German at school! Cool! I can't believe it! :) I come from the Northern part of Germany, but there are also a few people from Bavaria. I don't know Michaela Hoffmann, I'm sorry. :( Perhaps you'll find her on studiVZ (http://www.studivz.net). It's the German version of facebook and nearly everyone from Germany, Austria and Switzerland is registered there these days. Good luck! :)

komishes gefühl werd ich aber wohl trotzdem haben, wenn ich in so einem Teil stehe ^^

Musste letztes Jahr am Amsterdamer Flughafen Schiphol jeweils beim Umsteigen durch so ein Gerät laufen. Man wurde vorher jedoch auf niederländisch und englisch darüber informiert. Wer sich in seiner Privatsphäre verletzt fühlte, konnte auch "manuell" durchsucht werden. Die Schlange dort war mir aber damals zu lang und ich hab eh nichts zu verbergen, von daher bin ich da einfach durchgelaufen. :D Solang dadurch die Flüge sicherer werden und sich die Wartezeiten verringern, macht mir das nichts aus.

ich find's total lächerlich und übertrieben, ehrlich gesagt. ich mein, hab da auch kein problem in dem sinn mit, aber naja, kontrollzwang halt, kann man auch irgendwann mal übertreiben... irgendwann zeigen die ganzen kameras in städten die leute auch noch nackt.
