OK, I've been putting this off for ages, but I really have to say this. It REALLY p****s me off when people hear Coldplay mentioned and they say, 'Oh they're so boring and depressing. They make you wanna slit your wrists'. Enough said. That really p****s me off.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. SO many people say that to me. GAH! They just go along with the preconception that it's "cool" to hate Coldplay.

Yeah that can be annoying. It's gonna happen with every band though...people always find something to hate. Meh :P

I have stopped listening to those people, it just got tirering trying to defend.. Everybody has different taste but if you haven't listened to more than 3 songs or just the 'hits' they really should shut up ;)

I agree with Therese. I also used to try to defend them, but I dont even bother anymore.

 

I think at first it was just ignorance. They didn't quite 'get' the music (or weren't intellegent enough to understand it's beauty:rolleyes: ) so didn't give it a chance.

But now people just follow the whole 'its cool to hate Coldplay' thing, which is really starting to piss me off. Mainly because it's obviously effecting the boys, hence what Chris said at the Brits. Grrr. :(

This annoys me to no end too! They listen to Parachutes and because it's acoustic and mellow it's "depressing". Listen to the lyrics! It's everything but depressing.

These stupid pricks were talking about how much of a cunt Chris Martin was, and how Coldplay's depressing and their lyrics are crap.

 

Or how Chris Martin's voice sucks and they're just a version of Radiohead, with less balls. Or how X&Y is crap compared to what they did before, and they suck now.

Hi! I'm new to this board, and I just had to respond to this topic. It seems like everyone has an opinion on Coldplay these days, doesn't it?

 

I'm 16, and in my school Coldplay is very popular (among the mainstream crowd). I love CP (obviously) and I can't help but think that when people criticize Coldplay for ridiculous reasons, they don't really understand the music so they just spit out common criticisms that they might have heard from others. I know when I first heard of Coldplay, I knew that a lot of people liked them, which put me off at first. I thought "oh, that mellow soft-rock and over-rated band that everyone talks about. pfft." But then I listened to the actual music and fell in love with it. So, I guess some of it has to do with musical taste, but mostly it's about keeping an open mind.

I think I've said before, a lot of people don't like Coldplay because they hate Chris. But I think that's just because of the way the media portrays him. The fact that he values his privacy and wont answer questions about his family for example. People hate that cos they're nosey bastards:lol: I had an argument with people at work about how funny Chris was. Yeah, he acts like a geek sometimes, but that's who he is! And he takes the piss out of himself for it! People adopt this media created conception of what is cool. They don't seem to realise, it's far cooler to form your own opinions.

 

And they think Coldplay are boring. Quite clearly the opinion of people who have never watched them live, be it on TV or in real life.

It has been my experience that the more thoughtful, reflective and intelligent you are, the more likely you are to appreciate Coldplay. Well, you have to be to relate to their songs. They are dealing with deep, meaningful, truthful, profound things - and those idiots who say the band are 'depressing' are the kind who think life should be one big joke and one long party. That's not what Coldplay fans believe. They can identify with the melancholic, exquisite, sincere beauty of Coldplay. :)

i used to be so annoyed, but now im getting used to :dozey: 97% people i know all around me is bored with coldplay and dislike them. it's too tiring to bother it, so i dont really care anymore about what people said.

I agree with Fudge too - the majority of people I know who dislike Coldplay say it's because they can't stand Chris, and think that he tries too hard to be funny when he's not.

I've tried telling them otherwise, and that he's actually hysterically funny - but they just won't have it. :rolleyes:

I personally love his geeky-ness, and the fact that he makes stupid remarks sometimes without maybe thinking - because that's just Chris! He's not perfect, and I love that about him and wouldn't have him any other way. Infact I love all of them for it.

 

I'd much rather them be HUMAN than be pretencious, stuck-up bastards like so many other bands are.:dozey:

Hm I haven't met anybody who dislikes them, till now. Sure everyone of my friends or people I've met have their favourite music (techno, metal, ska, emo, rock, alternativ r'n'b or rap) but everyone of them like Coldplay's music. Hope there is no change because they're listning to a good piece of music ;)

goodness! people just need to realize that we all have a right to listen to whatever the hell they want, and if they don't like it then fine, you don't have to tell me or bash what i'm listening to. If you don't like it, i don't give a rat's ass! Coldplay actually is one of the better bands nowadays though, they write their own music and they're successful. i'm pretty sure 99% of this board will agree that they make pretty amazing music too because we GET IT. some people just don't and that's why they "love to hate" coldplay.

on the brighter side, i was watching Storytellers on VH1 w/ about 6 people and after it was done all of them went "Holy crap Saiqa you were right, they ARE awesome." :)

Each to their own. However if they are in MY car they listen to what i wanna listen to.

Great responses to this thread :D I was worried people would tell me to p**s off and ignore what people say, which I do anyway, but it's just so annoying that it's laughable haha. When I'm watching them live, on storytellers, cduk, whatever the heck they're on, and I think about what said misguided judgemental human beings say, it just totaly confuses me and makes me giggle to myself :P Hehehe, ah well, 'rant' over.
