A study has found that daughters who enjoyed a good early relationship with their father - "daddy's girls'' - are often attracted to male partners who look like them.

 

The results give further insight into what attracts a woman to a certain man's face and how she chooses her Mr Right.

 

The phenomenon appears to ring true for several celebrities, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, whose husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, has facial features similar to those of her producer father, Bruce.

 

Paltrow, who described their relationship as "very special'', took months to recover from the death of her father in 2002.

 

Nicole and Antonia Kidman have chosen husbands whose tightly cropped images bear a resemblance to father Anthony.

 

The scientists involved in the study found close correlations between celebrity chef Nigella Lawson's father Nigel and her husband, Charles Saatchi.

 

Researcher Lynda Boothroyd said the study's results supported the theory of "sexual imprinting''.

 

"It suggests people's ideals of an attractive face could be imprinted at an early age by the faces they see most - those of their parents,'' Dr Boothroyd, of Durham University in the UK, said.

 

The scientists recruited 49 eldest daughters, aged 15 to 34, to take part in the study.

 

Each was shown a series of photographs of 15 tightly cropped male faces.

 

The women were asked to rate the men's faces in terms of attractiveness.

 

Measurements were taken of the faces and compared with the dimensions of the women's fathers' faces.

 

The group was also asked to rate their paternal relationships from birth to the age of seven.

 

This included how much time they spent with their father and the emotional bond between them.

 

Those women who rated their childhood relationships highly were found to be more attracted to features similar to those of their father.

 

Those who did not get on with their fathers were more inclined to be turned off by such similarities.

But the theory has been discounted by Angelina Jolie, who was estranged from her father - the actor Jon Voight - as a child, but has chosen a partner, Brad Pitt, whose facial features are very similar.

 

"If fathers think that they look like their son-in-law they should take it as a compliment,'' Dr Boothroyd said.

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Gwyneth Paltrow was deemed too old to star in new movie 'Love and Other Disasters' by director Alek Keshishian.

 

Keshishian wrote the romantic comedy about a Vogue magazine assistant who helps her co-workers find love with Gwyneth in mind to play the lead character, Emily Jackson.

 

Astonishingly, the script took 10 years to complete by which time writer-and-director Keshishian decided Gwyneth, 34, was too old, so the part went to Brittany Murphy, 29.

 

Keshishian said: "By the time I finished, Gwyneth was pregnant. So I thought, 'OK, you're now officially too old to play this role.'

 

"Brittany got the part because the character is meant to be a young girl, before she figures out what love is."

 

Gwyneth - who now has two children, daughter Apple and son Moses, with musician husband Chris Martin - has a cameo in the film.

 

Welsh actor Matthew Rhys plays Brittany's gay best friend in the movie.

 

At the Hollywood premiere of the film last week, Matthew, 32, tried to take a hot dog and some nachos into the cinema to eat while he watched the film, but was refused entry by security.

 

Instead, the 'Brother and Sisters' star had to enjoy his calorific snacks in the green room.

Washington, July 27: Former flames Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow are set to rekindle their romance onscreen in upcoming flick, 'Dirty Tricks'.

 

The two are set to play husband and wife in the Ryan Murphy film.

 

Pitt's partner actress Angelina Jolie is however 'quite concerned' over the onscreen reunion, Contactmusic reports.

 

The film is about the wife of Richard Nixon's attorney general defending her husband after the Watergate scandal.

 

The film also stars Meryl Streep and Sharon Stone and is written by John Jeter.

 

Gwyneth and Pitt got engaged in 1997 and their relationship was much publicized, just like their break-up two years later after he left her for his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston.

 

Gwyneth is currently married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, with whom she has two kids.

Gwyneth Paltrow hypes up Iron Man at the 2007 Comic-Con press panel held at the San Diego Convention Center on Saturday in San Diego, Calif.

Paltrow plays assistant Pepper Potts to arms manufacturer Tony Stark, aka Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.).

When asked how did the actors prepared, co-star Downey joked, “Gwyneth was my personal assistant for two months. [pause] That was after we wrapped principal photography. Sometimes you do prep after.”

The audience laughed, Gwyneth looked confused. Added Downey, “She was running the acting department at the end of the day.”

“Such bulls***!” Gwyneth replied.

“I had to say that for a certain demographic” said Downey, winking at the ladies in the crowd.
