Eric Clapton hits out at Coldplay and U2

Featured Replies

I just know that since Eric Clapton is singing in favour of foxes hunting, this is another stupid thing his head is coming out with lately :dozey:

"I hate award shows" - Guy Berryman

Oh, and Nik... Chris has been dancing about like an idiot since Parachutes. I don't think his dancing has much to do with his writing. I admit that X&Y was not brilliant, but I think it has little to do with Chris' dorky dance moves on stage ;)

he should get a pen and paper instead of dancing and try to improve Coldplay's lyrics ;)

1/3 of X&Y was unacceptable lyrically (if we look at their previous recordings)

True

In Swallowed In The Sea Chris was just listing words that rhymed with each other.

Some of the simplest songs lyrically can be the best.

Some of the most complex songs lyrically can be the worst.

Swallowed in the Sea succeeds because of its simplicity.

If you only want to hear complex lyrics go listen to some poetry, or Morrissey or something!:smug:

Music is what you make it to be...

If a song sucks to you, then it sucks. Your view won't change just because someone says the song rocks. If you think it rocks, your view won't change because someone says it sucks. Unlleesss, you're one of those people pleaser people. Haha.

Someone can go up to you and say "OMG! THIS SONG FREAKING ROCKS! LISTEN LISTEN! Don't you love the riff at the beginning?!" and you'll listen to it and say "this is freaking sh**! What the hell are you talking about?"

There's so many ways to interpret music that... I don't believe one single person can say if a song seriously "utter bollocks" or "da shizznit".

You can say why you believe it's awesome, but that's just your opinion through your own view. Someone might see it differently and think it sucks. Iono.

The beautiful thing about music is that there's something for everyone. Even within songs, there's individual things that either make you hate or love it, but not everyone will see the same things in a song that you do....

And the more you listen to a song, the more you hear and notice things that you haven't really payed attention to, and the song grows on 'ya.

Or it could be vice-versa, where you listen to a song, and all of a sudden you think "what's so great about this?!" and stop listening too it, heh.

Eric Clapton, you're a rockin' guitarist, but right now you can kiss my ass. Just because you're freakin' deaf doesn't mean there's no different between U2 and Coldplay.

And I haven't seen Bono climb over his piano, kneel down and lie all the way backwards, or hop on one foot for 50 percent of his concerts.

And what the heck is this about roots?! When ever does a great band rise up because they're like they're roots? If anything, they completely different and something fresh. Music is changing, and Eric Clapton is feeling left behind. :( Poor 'ol chap.

I agree MC! Chris is a brilliant lyricist and an enchanting dancer/perfomer

Wow. That's the longest piece of crap ever.

(what I wrote, haha)

Well, I agree with your long piece ... I believe that Eric Clapton, and I have seen him many times and still love his music, he is the one that is detached from what is going on with the music today, he probably is living a more secluded life and yes, he sounds like he is just getting old... too bad, great songwriter and guitarist!

I've seen him live as well, if I remember correctly, and enjoyed it, even though I'm too young to know most of his songs... To each his own, Mr. Clapton. :/ You're only speaking up because you are TEH ALMITEY ERIK KLAPTUN!!!11!11!!1 and you have power. Or some sort of power. As much power as one can have when he's kind of been tossed aside.

My view? Someone needs a huuuuuug. :3

^Yes - I think you've got it.............................Eric is feeling unloved, the poor thing!!:P

Well that makes two of us...maybe I should invite eric over for a beer?

:idea2:

Eric Clapton should take some "happy" pills................................
Maybe he's going through "the change".;)
Maybe he's going through "the change".;)

Judging by his age, I'd have thought he'd be WAY past that!!:P

Eric Clapton should know the difference between Coldplay and U2 being he dates teenagers

Coldplay, as U2, bleeded for a first demo and had bad times, as any other true rock and roll band = they know the roots of a rock and roll band.

And I've seen Bono doing this

Look i love Coldplay and i'm also a huge Eric fan. One thing you can say about Eric is that he knows what he's talking about when it comes to music. He's seen and done it all. I don't agree that U2 and Coldplay sound the same. However, i think he's right when he says that a lot of people have no idea of the roots of music anymore.

He can't tell the difference between Coldplay and U2. I don't know much about Clapton, but it definitely takes credibility from his "knowledge" in music if can't tell those two bands apart.

Coldplay also know their roots well enough, as they constantly talk about all the old bands that have inspired them.. I don't know, Clapton's comments seem pretty off base here.

Clapton's a fucking dumbass, the end.

Fucking duuuumb, the old fart.

I'm tired of these stupid old musicians who feel like the only future is in the past. Dude. It's dead. I'll enjoy it, I'll listen to it, but IT'S DEAD. "You glorify the past, while the future dries up."-Bono

I've already ranted about this to my friends, but it hasn't stopped pissing me off. He has NO clue. U2 DID go back to their past, ever listened to Rattle and Hum? They got KILLED by the media and industry for that. Their only choice was to forge forward, resulting in their best album, Achtung Baby. They know what the past is, who hasn't heard Stairway to friggin' Heaven or Layla a billion times?? But I don't want to hear 15 different takes on that for Clapton to jerk off all over and be all "OMGZ ROCK ISN'T DEAD!"

The Stones will never be as good. Keith Moon will never come back. Led Zeppelin will never reunite. The Beatles are gone. The blues are tired. We only have the future to look towards. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing Clapton's stuff, those same 12 bar blues get a little boring after awhile (and I was a BIG TIME CLapton fan).

And for him to say that U2 doesn't care about the music and only care about fame and award shows... Wow. Get your head out your ass man. U2 took two years out of their lives to live on the road for their fans. They have 6 months now off and they're back out across the world. All for the music, all for the people who keep seeing them.

Does Clapton do this? No. He hasn't been around in a long time.

Right. Ok. I'm so done with this.
