Irish groups

Featured Replies

well, my current englisch classes deal with the topic 'Ireland' and we've got the task to prepare a presentation until next tuesday.

our essay has to be about Irish music groups.

mhhh, first i wanted to write something about u2 but then again ... loadsa other people in my form are going to write about u2 (though they have no freakin clue about their music .... it's just the fact that u2 is probably the most common irish band).

soooo ... now my question ... are there any other good irish music groups ...?

mhhhh i do like u2 ... but i wanna write about a band no one actually knows ...

well, i know The Corrs or Boyzone but i am not really into them ... +_+

Despite the terrible treatmant of Tom in the last few days, he's still prepared to help;

Irish bands you can write about;

U2

The Corrs

Thin Lizzy

The Cranberries

The Pogues

Christy Moore

Enya

Sinead O'Connor

Snow Patrol

Bell X1

Damien Rice

Aslan

Van Morrison.

You should be able to get a load of information on at least 7 of them.

The Smiths maybe? There's a song by Morrisey called 'Irish blood English heart'....

I don't think you could do an Irish project on the Smiths. I've never heard them being considered Irish depite, that song.

They're an awesome band, I guess you could do some research to find out wether they're Irish or not

And what abour irish folk music...like the Chieftains or the Clannads :)

The Thrills and Van Morrison come to mind. If you need any help let me know.

I like you now Tom. Your knowledge of Irish bands is impressive.

Haha, my band still doesnt have a deal, mainly because there are thousands of bands looking for one and we've been given a chance to negotiate, but I'm in a different country from the other songwriter so we cant meet or anything and I'm unsure of my commitment for the summer.

They basically think "We can choose from hundreds of bands that are just as good and a lot more committed, these guys just dont give a fuck" and they are right.

Well just make up a cool story about your band and he/she can right a report on it.

Miceal O'Reilly and his band

haha this makes me want to listen :nice: I still have the songs

Already been mentioned, but Snow Patrol!

Except aren't they from Northern Ireland? They're really more a part of the Glasgow scene from what I understand, anyway.

If you don't mind celtic music and wanted some really rich history to look into, the Chieftans would be a great one to do. They've been around for forever it seems.

unlucky mate! I dont have any on this comp

well seeing as im Irish! I can mention a few for ya,Planxty,Christie Hennessey (really like him nice easy listening always has great lyrics with stories,he paints vivid pictures with his words check out the songs "The Quest" "The Vision" and "Sheila Doran" which has no music just him singing a story! amazing song!) another one you could have is Boomtown Rats with ol Bob Geldof. The Dubliners,The Pogues,The Furies,Damien Dempsey (Maybe it doeasnt have to be a band??) Horslips,The Saw Doctors, thats all i can think of for now that hasnt already been said!!
