Parachutes may seem lousy only if you compare it to AROBTTH, which I think (and I bet most of Coldplay fans agree with me) was their best album. But if you compare Parachutes to X&Y then yes, Parachutes beats it. Because X&Y is, actually, one big disappointment. I like Twisted Logic and X&Y, but the whole album is pretty lame.

I, personally, think that The Hardest Part, Fix You and Speed of Sound are pretty lame. That's what I think.

And there's no song from AROBTTH that I can't call great.

Doesnt matter if you like XandY more, or whatever, but there´s something you cant argue with me (which i think i read it here somewhere), parachutes sounds like 4 great musicians playing in a room, where a recording machine was accidentally on...it´s just that: pure, simple, meaningful music, coming from their souls, without anyone trying to twist it to make it sound more energetic, artificial or edgy.

So my veredict is: Martin is completely wrong, but i asume he was just joking, as usual...

Why on earth would Chris say such a thing? :angry::angry::angry:Yeah sure. it wasnt the best seller and a huge success, but ALL the songs in Parachutes are perhaps their best songs:nice:(among them is my all time favorite, Trouble:heart:) I do agree that is a bit rustic and slightly unpolished, sophmoric:thinking: But that's what makes it so good. Im sure that Coldplay didnt spend long hours trying to add "new age" effects, or trying different chord progressions. The songs just came to be. The album is perfect. :nice::D

If you compare, say.... his lyric materials then and now, he's less "hopeless romantic" now than before. Plus, the band is much more creative in their music composition.

 

For example, I recently looked back on my journal entries that I wrote when I was 13, and I'm apalled by the stuff I "thought" was "most memorable in my life." Times have gone by, and I'm much wiser to know that there are bigger things to pay attention to. :dozey:

If you compare, say.... his lyric materials then and now, he's less "hopeless romantic" now than before. Plus, the band is much more creative in their music composition.

Too true ;D I sometimes stumble across drawings/stories I did when I was 13 and at the time i thought they were the best things ever,while now I'm just embarrased to look at them. We can all be critical when it comes to our own work,I suppose :D

i like parachutes much better than X&Y, and its just so perfect, i think. its all so nice and quiet and pleasant, it makes me think of coffeeshops or something. i absolutely love it, but i also love how every album of theirs has a different feel.

i do agree with it, however when something is good, it remains good.

for example, its been a huge amount of years since the great composers did their work, but they remain to this day good.

I really like Parachutes. not as much as the other two albums. Parachutesreally isn't typical Coldplay to me. It's really mellow and acoustic sounding. Nowadays they're more electronicly based and sleeker.. I like that Coldplay much better.

But I like their ability to be versatile. But how could he say it has terribly songs. Shiver? Trouble? Yellow?

I think that Parachutes is my favorite of their albums, I love Yellow! I also love Don't Panic, Spies, and Shiver. :)

Weird... I've always associated them more with the cosy acoustic-y side of things- alot of the new stuff sounds too glossy and overproduced to me. I like the new stuff when they do acoustic sessions, though.

Its been quite a few years since Coldplay released that album, so what does he expect, the songs probably sound immature or less complex than the other two. However, they were just a college band, and thats impressive in itself, considering that their music was and still is an incredible listening experience. I bet Chris is reading this topic right now just to feel better about himself :D
