Jay-Z and Chris Martin

Featured Replies

nah, have you heard Jay's previous albums? Blueprint or The Black Album for example. they are like 100 times better than the new one.

his comeback is a ridiculous joke, involving a pop star like Chris Martin into the recording is even more ridiculous.

the new album is not even near as good as some previous Jay recordings. rap is dead nowadays, anyway.

Ok, so you're more into rap. I've never heard Jay's recordings before exept some featuring Linkin' Park, no impression. But this one's good, in my opinion, nice tune of drums and Chris vocals on it, nothing's ridiculous here. Very interesting to know that they're fans of each other.

Danger Mouse's Grey Album is better. :)

But I like this one. The instrumentation is fantastic and the bass isn't too heavy.

And rap isn't done. Basically anything Danger Mouse does is gold.

chris is definitely singing, but when jay-z says "and i hear my angel singing to me" beyonce says "are you happy ho"

chris starts the chorus, just perfect!

Yeah :) I agree :D

Besides "Anything" and maybe "Show Me What You Got", name 1 below average song on this album.

So much hate for Jay nowadays.

I like it :nice:

I HATE rap as a general rule- don't ask me to complare it to the black album or blah blah blah whatever. I wouldn't be able to sit still through the first song. I just can't get my head around it.

But this one has the rather amazing distinction of being the first rap song that I've actually been able to connect to the rap part of it in any way. Add to that the fantastic melodic bits, and Chris's voice at it's most interesting that I've heard it in a long time, and you've got yourself a rap track I sat through. More than once.

I'm stunned. :stunned:

FORGET WHAT I SAID.

I've listened to it about ten times now - It's grown on me. :D I guess I was a little put off by the way it sounded. The titile "Beach Chair" makes me think of a light, softer sound.

And yes, Chris' voice is awesome on this track.

I just heard it' date=' and I think it's amazing![/quote']

So did I :D I hope there's a video coming out *hopes*

I'm lizening right now. O.o

I can actually imagine that quite well. Coldplay aren't releasing anything right now, and Chris and Jay-Z have shown their deep respect and love for each other in the public, so maybe they wanna prove it with a video and the single release! Would be great :D

But maybe they're not doing it because Chris Martin rapping with Jay-Z would be "wrong for the image", sigh..

i heard it for the first time last night, and it still stands, i really like it. i can't imagine anyone besides chris singing that bit. he really makes the song complete.

i love the song!!...is there the voice of beyonce in this song, too?i think it's her voice...

The dates and cities for Jay-Z's upcoming one day nationwide tour have been confirmed.

As SOHH previously reported, Hov planned to perform eight shows in eight cities on November 18th, but according to FMQB.com, the New York-bred rapper will now hit seven cities for seven shows in 17 hours.

Titled "The Jay-Z Hangar Tour," Jay (born Sean Carter) will fly via G5 to Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Las Vegas to perform for radio contest winners.

A pair of winners will also gain the chance to travel with Jay-Z during the remaining concerts of the tour and participate in the grand finale show in Las Vegas. In addition, they will be provided with a complete Roc-A-Wear outfit.

Cingular Wireless will be sponsoring the tour and will make the event available to their customers via their brand of mobile phones.

Hov is gearing up for the release of his ninth solo album titled Kingdom Come. Due in stores in November, the album will feature production, Dr. Dre, Just Blaze and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, among others.

Jay-Z's Kingdom Come is due in stores on Nov. 21.

Yeah I agree that this isn't his best album, in the lyrical and production sense. Black Album was his most well produced album, and Blueprint was his best lyrically (and great production there).

However, there are still quite a few stand out tracks on this album. Considering the fact that Jay-Z has very little to talk about that is considered "credible" in the world of rap now, he has less subject matter to work with, but still manages not to come off as a poppy, club banger only, artist like LL is now.

The Prelude

Oh My God

Kingdom Come

Lost Ones

Do U Wanna Ride

Dig A Hole

Minority Report

and Beach Chair

are all solid tracks in terms of lyrical and production strength. The only track that I find questionable is the Usher, Pharrell track. It IS very poppy, and too light I find. 30 Something is like Jay's new Big Pimpin for a new age, its kind of cool in that way.

Anybody who is saying Blueprint or Black Album are his best album needs to go out and buy Reasonable Doubt TODAY. You will love it.

I definitely have Reasonable Doubt, and have had it for years. Solid album, but when you consider the overall effect of an album - Blueprint: full of diss songs, great new producers, a few club bangers and an overall return to Jay-Z street style (versus his pop style); Black Album: Amazing production, different from anything out there at the time, huge presence in the music scene from the day it came out, inspired several mash albums etc... - Reasonable Doubt just doesn't stand up to those two. In my mind, its his 3rd best album. And "Kingdom Come" is his 4th.

that's where you're wrong! take a look around at less mainstream (and american) artists and you'll see that its still alive.

can you please name me a good rap recording from this year?

the last rap album i really anticipated and liked was The Game's Documentary, that album was really interesting in many ways. Game wasn't really mainstream those days, now is.

the best decade of rap/hip hop was the early 90s, imo. now it's just not as good as it was *coughs* dead coughs* ;)

I havent heard Beach Chair yet, Because Im at school, however, "Show me what you got" is the shit, The begining makes me want to muzzle up with a feather boa, and smoke a cigar.

I love Jayz.

any chance anyone will have lyrics? I LOVE this song! :D :D

the song is quite okay (dude, he's singing about Heidi Klum?!).

i love chris' part of course, but all in all ... it's very... erm... kinda boring.

Yeah I can name you a good rap recording from this year. "Atlantis: Hymns for Disco" by k-Os. Or Mood Ruff's new album. Or "Food and Liquor" by Lupe.

Rap as we used to know it is dead. I would agree with you that a lot of new rap, if not most of it, is total shit, especially when compared to early-to-mid 90s rap. But Rap is in a transition phase to finding new sounds and methods, and the artists that I named above are pioneering this move. The reason I like Jay-Z is because he represents an ability to embrace this change in rap with what we liked in mid-90s rap, and still make it critically and commercially acceptable. Granted the level to which he embraces the changes in rap is not huge, especially when compared to some of his contemporaries like Kanye, but its still something to be noted.
