Positive Music Recommendations anyone?

Featured Replies

I have come to the realization that the majority of the albums I own are closer to depressing or neutral on the mood spectrum in terms of music, or at least what they evoke in me. I think Coldplay ranges from neutral, depressing, for the most part, with some positive mixed in there. Mind you, I have moderate problems with anxiety, so perhaps I'm just a bit more sensitive to certain material in music.

Could anyone recommend any genres, bands, albums, or even songs (that aren't quite as well known perhaps) or if you use Pandora (http://www.pandora.com) anything I should try plugging in or stations I should check out? It seems like a lot of music I hear that is positive tends to be more poppy and simple, and not as enduring.

Thanks,

~Dave

Jack Johnson! He's a pretty happy sounding artist. That's pretty much all I can think of at the moment.

I would recommend some electronica music most likely. Stuff that makes you want to dance.

Cascada? *shudders then quickly vomits*

Try Gnarls Barkley!!

The Odd Couple is a great album and the music is really lively and jolly and cheery and wonderful and lovely and, well, i'm sure you get the picture :)

Death Cab - Plans, is what your looking for:)

I've been listening to a lot of stuff from the early 50's/60's, a lot of it is better than today's music.

Hm..not a bad suggestion. I have listened to Jack Johnson--he's not bad at all, but is more mellow than what I'm looking for.

haha uhhh maybe a few songs but some of that album is pretty depressing as well... try Ted Leo and the Pharmacists... his songs have insprational lyrics and they arent in your face upbeat but they definately make you feel good. anything from shake the sheets or the tyranny of distance is great.

I find a lot of Starsailor's stuff uplifting. and any early Beatls stuff is cheerful.

Manic Street Preachers.

I third jack johnson (put some of him together with parachutes and some norah jones, you have a perfect mix for any rainy day). who else can I add... I've been in a simon and garfunkel mood lately, and listening Mrs. Robinson 10 times in a row will cheer anyone up. Trying to think of some really positive stuff other than coldplay (don't panic and everything's not lost cheer me up before I even begin listening)...maybe the shins.

Oasis ususally perks me up, and so does alot of more up-tempo classical music like Mozart piano sonatas. Some Embrace and even some Doves, even though some of their themes are dark, the music lifts my spirits. I once made a mixtape (CD) of the cheeriest songs I could think of to get over my fear of flying. If I can dig it up, I'll upload it in MM.

Oasis makes me depressed..:P

Really? Some people find The Smiths really depressing, but their guitar work always cheers me up...but then, I listen to Leonard Cohen, so maybe I'm just wierd, lol.

Oasis inflates my ego.

The New Pornographers, and some of the Shins stuff.

yea i completely agree with both. The shins may seem a little weird at first but if you end up liking them they can easily put you in a good mood. and i want to second RICK8 because oasis makes me depressed too.

Wow, I find that strange...no offense to you guys or anything, I've just never heard anyone say that, but I have a friend who finds even Coldplay's most positive stuff depressing but they find RH REALLY uplifing, so to each their own.:)

The Verve and Richard Ashcroft's solo stuff usually make me smile too...and I third the Shins! Ever heard of The Holloways? Some of their subject matter is sad, but their music is dancy and fun...most of it anyway.

Positive music? Psht! Who needs positive, happy music?

Cascada? *shudders then quickly vomits*

Hey! Haha Cascada is awesome no homo.

i think the strokes make me very very happy. makes me feel like going to an awesome party with my friends, and i'm really not a partier.

but a lot of the lyrics are kind of bratty (adorably so! :D) and talk about hating people and being tired of the people around you, so perhaps it's not what you're looking for. i'd say check out albert hammond jr.'s solo album (he's the strokes guitarist), as well as bands like the killers. i think the killers always get you pumped.
