It has been announced today that Coldplay will premiere the first single from their fourth album, ‘Viva La Vida’, next Tuesday (29th April) on BBC6 Music, which will then open the floodgates for thousands of other radio stations to be allowed to air the track.

For those outside the UK you can listen to BBC6 Music and XFM webstreams via the Coldplaying toolbar - which you can download here prior to next week's news announcement and track premiere. If you have any problems with the toolbar please log them here as soon as possible.

‘Violet Hill’, which is released in June, will be given its first play on George Lamb's show on BBC 6 Music, which airs between 10am and 1pm. Coldplay’s much anticipated new album features ten tracks and has been produced alongside Brian Eno. Speaking about the album, the band said that they “weren’t afraid to try anything” and that, as a group, they were still “obsessed with making songs that can be sung to the rafters”.

Meanwhile, XFM announced that big Coldplay news will be announced on Monday 28th April. In their blog, they said, "Keep your eyes and ears locked on to Xfm Online and on air for the most exciting Coldplay news you'll hear all year on Monday… We can say no more. Yet."

From BBC 6 music website:

Worldwide first play next week

24 Apr 2008 - Coldplay have given the go ahead for the world preview of their new single next week. Violet Hill is taken from their forthcoming highly anticipated fourth album Viva La Vida and will be given it's first airplay on Tuesday at midday.

The new album, the follow up to 2005's X&Y, is due out mid-June. The English alternative name of the project is Death and All His Friends and includes 10 tracks produced by Grammy-winning producer and Roxy Music impresario Brian Eno. This album will be Eno's first collaboration with Coldplay.

When Coldplay announced a return to the studio last year, Chris Martin said the upcoming album would see the band strike out in a new creative direction, hence inviting Eno into the studio, and would also include one song that he described as "genius," a tune "everybody has to hear."

Tune in to George Lamb's show on 6 Music on 29 April to hear it.

Oh God, everything is happening so quickly!! :shocked2:

Although I'm really stuck! I have an all-day long Graphics exam on tuesday :(, where we are only alound mp3's and radios. Althogh I don't think BBC Radio 6 or Xfm can be heard through FM radios :embarassed:

This is horrible!! Maybe it'll be played on Radio1 a little bit later on in the afternoon.

What if it IS a two disc set!? On the official site it says the title of the tracklist is Viva La Vida, not the whole title! What if all the songs that didn't make it (quite a few!) were gonna be on the second disc. What if the first disc deals with life, 'Viva La Vida', and the second disc deals with death, 'Death and All His Friends'.

if this is the case, my parents would probably seriously consider suing coldplay for being the direct cause of my death from cardiac arrest.

i have to say i seriously doubt it, though. i think the news has to do with the tour dates or them playing glasto etc etc. something that'll be very good to know, but not a heart-stopper for us.

Or, maybe, people are just mistaken. Some people just call it Viva la Vida. Anyway, I think it's a bless no one calls it Prospekt anymore.

And thanks a lot for the news!

This is gonna be HUGE news. My prediction:

"Chris Martin and the band have decided that since their fans have been so patiently waiting for their new album 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends', they will now give away all discarded songs such as 'Famous Old Painters' and 'Glass of Water' on a special release album. Also they will embark on a new world tour where they will play free shows in every single town on the planet. This shocking news has caused many deaths in the Coldplay fan base, as many have died of shock and delight. The tour will begin in Miami, Florida and will finish a U.S. tour in 9 months. Once the world tour is finished, they will immediatley begin working on LP5, which they have guaranteed to be completed by 2009."

Sorry, guess i got a little carried away. But it will be something along those lines.

That would be the best news EVER. I hadn't even really considered LP5 before you mentioned it, haha. But an alternative album to Viva La Vida containing ALL the unused songs from this era would absolutely be the best thing ever.

"Death & All His B-Sides" for a worldwide autumn release, anyone?

01. The Goldrush

02. Famous Old Painters

03. Chinese Sleep Chant

04. Lukas

05. Prospekt's March / LRLRL

^as would i. i like how you included "deserter" and a studio version of "ladder to the sun" :P

i do think we're all psyching ourselves up for something like that, though. i just really don't want to get my hopes up, because then i'll be a bit sad when it's just that they're going to play at glasto, which doesn't mean a hell of a lot to me anyway.

still. more music than yet promised = best thing EVER.
