...what a joke. Looks like that album will always be A Rush Of Blood To The Head. I am as diehard a Coldplay fan as you will find and there is no way we can be happy with this album so far. We have heard three songs, two off the album, and they are all not the Coldplay we all love. So why would they change their sound so dramatically? Did they do it because they truly believe they are the biggest band in the world and people will buy their music anyway? They should experiment on their own time but continue to reward their true fans with Coldplay music. I was so looking foward to their new album but with the name of the album being idiotic to the new music, I am looking foward to nothing.

So far the worst song on X&Y is better than anything we have heard so far. Its amazing how certain Coldplay fans cant admit that their beloved fan has taken a step back with Eno at the helm. Im in NYC and was looking foward to going to see them at the free concert but no longer. Free or not I am not seeing them.

the ones off the album are very different I agree, and chris said not everybody would like this album, so I was scared, but I actually love the new direction they're going in.

Every album is a part of Coldplay's story. I'm pretty sure they won't look back and say ahh there's 2 years lost...I mean, look, X&Y made them the biggest band on the planet, now 'Viva' is just going to confirm that.

 

Diversity in Viva is obvious to everybody I think..while X&Y used the same formula, similar riffs, similar themes all over again. But don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great album, it's what made me a Coldplay fan at the first place!

And low76, I think you'll find the majority of members here can't wait for this new album after hearing VLV and VH, it may be a new sound but I with most other people love it so far, both are great songs and I'm sure the rest of the album will be as well!

Music is something that tickles your ears in a way that you enjoy. Honestly I don't care if I hear guitar, or harpsichord, or tablas, or computers. It can all be good music.

 

It's the same four guys making an album, and I'm inclined to think they still have a dedication to their craft. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of Violet Hill, I held out knowing they wouldn't disappoint. You should feel the same way - there is bound to be another track on here that you will enjoy to no end, maybe something that reminds you of parachutes.

 

Either way, forgoing a FREE concert because you don't like their new sound is sort of bordering on self-flagellation. They'll be playing Parachutes songs at the concert, and who knows... maybe the live versions of their new songs will make you appreciate them more. Music is about emotion, so go to the free concert and take a guy/girl you like, and make it an evening to remember. Yeesh.

Because they want to try new things and not have there sound branded as any one thing.

That's like saying Radiohead should've continued making album clones of OK computer. Coldplay can do whatever the hell they want, and I'm impressed that they're brave enough to not care who likes there music and make the album that they, "coldplay" (not the fans) want to make. Would you prefer they grind out ten more versions of clocks and yellow? Anywho, it's that kind of bravery and throwing caution to the wind that makes great bands great. If they continue doing the same thing, they stop progressing and get lost in time.

I agree, I'm really getting pissed about going from negative thread to negative thread. It's not as if you're the only people in the world will this ground-breaking idea that the album will suck.

I love Parachutes and AROBTTH. I also loved X&Y and the songs we are getting now. I also have a very diverse taste in music. If you only have a taste for their earlier sound then you won't like any change.

 

I for one would not want to hear the same album reprocessed over and over. great bands constantly evolve in their music, and Coldplay is a great band.

Yeah, the fact is we'd probably hate it more if it was another X&Y. they need to go somewhere but we don't want them to go too far either. They can't satisfy everybody, that's why Chris was like "oh, fuck it! not everybody's gonna like it! okay?"

Erm, low76, I think you're being a bit extreme at your point. I mean, we have in our hands 2 totally different songs of viva la vida and, by the information we've been getting for these past months, I think we can tell that each song is pretty different from the other. Maybe you'll just have to wait to listen to the whole album or maybe listen to violet hill and viva la viva some more times. I must confess that vh didn't captivate me at the first time but I listened to it again and again and then I realized by the 15th time or something that it was a really nice work. I admit that a spell a rebel yell isn't the song I would say I like but my opinion can change as well, who knows?Maybe it's a matter of adapting our ears because it's a fact that they're souding different. But they ''prepared'' us, they told us they would change.

 

But we can still have great songs to be sung by a huge crowd. Maybe you should just open your mind a bit more. The majority of the fans loved the songs, maybe you'll love the ones that are coming too. Or even these two we already have. :)

 

And you shouldn't miss this opportunity to go to the free concert. As Safiire said, they're going to play parachutes and arobtth songs...It's a chance you can't miss.

If the musics great what the hell is the problem? I dont care if its dance music but all the songs are legenderey and I love it and I do love it. Its great, and XY wasnt great, it was shit, defo not a classic at all and your actually liking that album. Shame on you!
