The Album To Remember Them By...

Featured Replies

what a joke. Looks like that album will always be A Rush Of Blood To The Head. I am as diehard a Coldplay fan as you will find and there is no way we can be happy with this album so far.

I beg to differ...

We have heard three songs, two off the album, and they are all not the Coldplay we all love.

Whose we?

So why would they change their sound so dramatically?

Because they want to try new things and not have there sound branded as any one thing.

Did they do it because they truly believe they are the biggest band in the world and people will buy their music anyway?

They should experiment on their own time but continue to reward their true fans with Coldplay music.

That's like saying Radiohead should've continued making album clones of OK computer. Coldplay can do whatever the hell they want, and I'm impressed that they're brave enough to not care who likes there music and make the album that they, "coldplay" (not the fans) want to make. Would you prefer they grind out ten more versions of clocks and yellow? Anywho, it's that kind of bravery and throwing caution to the wind that makes great bands great. If they continue doing the same thing, they stop progressing and get lost in time.

I was so looking foward to their new album but with the name of the album being idiotic to the new music, I am looking foward to nothing.

Give it a bloody chance.

Amen to that! Well said, my friend!

So why does every single negative (or positive) opinion for any given thing warrant a brand new thread again?

I have no problem with people voicing their opinions around here, but seriously, there are already threads. You don't have to try to yell louder than everyone else.

i love you.... haha that seriously sums up my feelings SO WELL.

i cant believe you're judging this album based upon THREE SONGS. i happen to love all of them and i happen to think this WILL be their best yet...

LOL OPINIONS.

Don't be a prick. Just because you dislike a song or two that the vast majority of all Coldplay fans like doesn't mean your opinion is fact. Get over it.

Don't encourage him/her to go if he/she doesn't want to - better chance of you getting a ticket! :P

Maybe you're right... :laugh4:

Nah, I'm not able to go to Ny or London in a month or so... :P

You're def going, aren't you? :)

Guys I am not trying to speak for everyone. I apologize for my negative thread but I am just truly upset and disappointed with what they are doing. Now back to my ranting...

All this talk about evolving has my head spinning. The band has been evolving over the years. AROBTTH was clearly a step in a different direction, albeit a small one. X&Y was also a step in a different direction, again albeit a small one. Songs like Low & Twisted Logic are different songs, but still have the Coldplay imprint on them. The songs we have heard so far are nothing like we heard before. Violet Hill is a different song, but I don't mind it as much because it doesnt have the dreaded synth sounds like the others. There is nothing to gain from using synth sounds. You have a band with talented musicians...use them!!!

You can't deny the similarities with U2. U2 experimented with synth sounds on Achtung Baby and continued to use them until 2000 when they realized the error of their ways and went back to what made them the band they were. They used synth sounds to get as far away from Joshua Tree as possible. Now they have gone back to those days. Why couldn't Coldplay learn from U2's mistakes?!?

don't be an idiot, bands evolve, why stay in explored territory. Coldplay would just think they were repeating themselves.

I wouldn't call it a mistake, don't be hating on synths. I'm rather enjoying the u2 vibes...

In case you didn't know...its 2008...not 1984. Synth sounds are the worst. Why even have a band? Just use a computer like NIN and be done with it.

Maybe VLVODAHF is a joke and they are releasing a real album at the same time. Or maybe this is a dream...or rather a nightmare. Please!!!

Your reasoning makes no sense. Just because it's 2008 doesn't mean you can't use instruments that 'defined' an earlier era.

Do any of you know how many bands today use some form of synth in their music, even if very discreetly? Why does this mean Coldplay are bad anyway? If they stayed with the same exact music they would be writing the same songs over and over again. Theres a limit to how many times 4 people can write a song about not giving up (Dont Panic, Everythings Not Lost, Fix You) or making mistakes (Trouble, Life is for Living) or even love (Yellow, Shiver, Scientist, Til Kingdom Come, Green Eyes). They cant keep repeating themselves, and they dont want to. They want to branch out and experiment, and express themselves in new ways. If you can't accept that for what it is, then don't listen to the new music.

i think that Ian must lock all the threads which are negative and pissing in nature.(because we're fed up with it so much!)

especially the fans who really like Coldplay have to face a lot with these and their unnecessary slammings on us in some or some way to irritate.

So what you are saying is that those of us who don't like the new music arent allowed to voice our opinions? You have to expect some of us would like the new stuff and some of us wouldnt. There's jk harm in critizing the band...is there? Geez. Some people are sensitive around here.

You can say whatever you like, but you didn't need to make a new thread about it, there are almost five threads just liks this that you could've posted on. Don't start a new thread if you have nothing new to say....

I love you for this. Everyone who has made a thread like this has earned themselves a spot on my ignored list

...and Im the close minded one? I am starting to see the side of the Coldplay haters for the 1st time in my life.

^ I can see where you're coming from - I was seriously worried about this album (experimental Eno + strange song titles + moving away from X&Y didn't sound like an appealing combination), but judging from the songs that have come out so far it sounds brilliant. So I understand that you're insecure about whether it'll be as good as their previous albums, but I'm hoping for your sake that it grows on you.

And, for the record, I don't think you're going to get much support in this forum so don't expect this empathy from others ;)

thing is.. when they released speed of sound, people carried on about how its just a ripoff of clocks... and if they did the same thing again, the media (and the rest of the world) would crucify them. reality is, when coldplay release an album, the world has something to say about it. the only option CP had was to put out something so different that at least if people were gonna talk about it, it was going to be bagging them out for recycling their own melodies.

i personally love the 2 new songs and i reckon it could very well be the best album yet...

As the great Jah Wobble would say ... "No Change is Sexy" </sarcasm>

Now back to my ranting...

Lowly...I could write an essay on how you contradict yourself, and how very wrong you are. But I would never do that, because you're a waste. Of time. Of space.

In fact, this thread should be closed. The atmosphere here is too negative and too daunting for my taste.

EDITED for crimes against compassion - I aplogise.

Are you kidding me!!! Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree are in my opinion U2's best 2 albums and being a U2 groupie myself I know that most U2 fans rate Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby in their top two.

Couldn't agree more!! I'd also include Pop and Zooropa in that list. Everyone is entitled to their own taste and opinion I agree and if you only like a certain style from a band that has a diverse catalogue then that's fine by me - although I feel sorry for those that can't appreciate the diversity, you really are missing out. Imho, diversity is what differentiates a good band from a legendary band.

I, for one, am absolutely delighted Coldplay have decided to stretch their wings.
